Splendid food excellently served. Very special. Strongly recommend
A very special and romantic place well worth a visit. Everything from the service to the food was of the highest standard. The attentive and meticulous staff were fab, the food was delicious and intriguing. My partner enjoyed his vegetarian options on the tasting menu. The decor has been well maintained to make you feel as though you’re in a rustic, dated and totally enthralling manor. We were lucky enough to have made our reservation on the day of our visit however I would highly recommend booking well in advance as a pre booked taxi service is essential to take along the enchanting winding and narrows roads.
We found the bar staff very pretentious and when we arrived we were shown into the lounge area but then were completely ignored while other people gave their food and drink orders. We moved to the terrace and ordered drinks there and waiter tried to order a £25 glass of white for us but my husband sent that one back and ordered another more reasonably priced £14 glass. Very pricey meal (£125 each for 3 courses) and my husband thought his beef was tasteless. He told the waiter when we left.
Fabulous! Beautiful restaurant, stunning food
A fantastic lunch experience at Gidleigh Park. As you might expect the food was faultless and the setting is truly stunning. Upon arrival we were welcomed into the lounge area, with beautiful views of Dartmoor and Gidleigh's babbling brook. This set the scene for an afternoon of traditional, opulent fine dining. Service was a little leisurely at times, but we concluded that this was part of the 'experience', which is best savoured in a relaxed fashion and shouldn't be judged by city standards.

Dont rely on Sat Nav to give you the right directions to this wonderful idyllic spot - thankfully we arrived in the locality with half an hour to spare!
Meal was wonderful - particularly the dessert of mango mousse and rice pudding ice cream.
Once you get there, fabulous dining experience.
What a treat it was to pass a dismal February day at Gidleigh Park Restaurant in the north of Dartmoor. How do you rate a restaurant of this recognized quality? We had the special price lunch menu with superbly complementing choices in each course. The flavours were intense and I particularly liked the foaming pumpkin soup appetiser, the richness of the succulent beef cheek and the real coffee hit in the icecream. The staff were a delight and we could whet our appetite with a pre-meal walk!
We were a bit disappointed after our exceptional dinner here last year. Good things - the atmosphere is amasing. The areas where you are seated for your pre-meal drinks and after-meal coffee are extremely enjoyable. The service is of a very high standard. Although sommelier could brush up a bit on pronounciation of French wines and regions (it was hard to recognise them). Not so good -- the food wasn't all excellent. Our main (pollock) was far too salty. Petit-fours were not great either.
Gidleigh Park Hotel
Excellent lunch and service in delightful surroundings. Atrtention to detail and charming staff.
Had a lovely evening at Gidleigh Manor in Chagford. Great meal, the deer was delicious, a great selection of local food on the menu including many local cheeses. Service left a little to be desired for a 2 star Michelin restaurant. Food was excellent.
We booked lunch and arrived on a beautiful late autumn day that allowed us to take drinks and amuse bouche on the terrace while selecting our orders. Service was attentive and staff were knowledgeable when we asked about menu items and for assistance in selecting the wine.
Lunch was served in one of the small dining rooms looking out across the gardens and parkland. The food was beautifully presented and perfectly balanced. Certainly some where to go for a special occasion.
From the moment we arrived at Gidleigh Park Restaurant in Chagford, Devon it was a fantastic experience. The service was spot on; attentive without being obtrusive. The food (set lunch menu) was perfect with delicious extras. The surroundings were beautiful for a post lunch wander. I hope to return as soon as possible for the tasting menu!
Gidleigh Park, Chagford is a country house hotel in a great location, beside the scenic river Teign.
We had the 8-course lunch signature menu, which was expensive, but showed the wide range of exquisite food on offer.
A cheaper option would be 2 courses from the fixed lunch menu, followed by coffee & petits-fours. Skip dessert, because the petits-fours are substantial.
Service is impeccable.
Good position, near Place Wilson. Very nice room, good service, good regional cooking. The starters are very big though! Price is correct for the standard and the wine list prices very low for a city centre. House cocktail is recommended.
GIDLEIGH PARK RESTAURANT
Pan fried Fois Gras and Quail risotto both with trufle shaving with beautifully balanced flavours that were accentuated by Nahe Spatlese.
Lamb and Grouse were both in pink perfection, tender and juicy complimented by Ornellaia 99.
Trio of chocolate light and heavenly; the sorbet absolutely great.
Fantastic setting, faultless service but difficult to get to.
Gidleigh Park, Chagford
We visited this restaurant on 17th September for our wedding anniversary.
Absolutely superb from start to finish. We had the 8 course starter menu the highlight of which has to be the beef course it was melt in the mouth tender. Would recommend it the service, the food, the venue everything was lovely. Thank you.
Had looked forward immensely to visit to Gidleigh Park Hotel, Chagford. The customer service is second to none and the staff, are attentive and friendly but professional. We had the tasting menu, which introduced us to some of the signature dishes at the hotel. The highlights for me were the terrine of foie gras served with different variations on a rhubarb theme and the Devon quail. Banana parfait with lime sorbet was superb and the petits fours were amazing. A gastronomic delight!
We would recommend Gidleigh Park to anyone looking for that special meal with a loved one. The £95 al a carte is great value and includes some little extra surprises. Stunning food and presentation especially the trio of chocolate dessert!
Stunning setting, excellent service and truly memorable food - what an experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Gidleigh to anyone wanting a top-class experience.
Gidleigh Park is truly a magnificent restaurant. Michael Caines should be most proud. Every dish on the tasting menu was yummy and the staff were friendly and helpful. I wish it was nearer London so I could go more often. Failing that, I wish I could stay at their beautiful hotel, with gorgeous surroundings more often. Just amazing.
Gidleigh Park. 8 course tasting menu. Service almost impeccable, welcoming, yet not "familiar". I got impatient with the waits between so many courses. I wouldn't re-choose menu, excellent though the food was, and entertaining, with so much happening on each plate. I disliked "How was everything?" after every course! No Sherry cream sauce with the veal and the crispy bacon was limp. Fabulous sweetbreads with almonds though. Wines by glass very expensive. Lovely walk in grounds after lunch.
Lovely atmosphere! the people who work there would do anything for you. Enjoyed the food very much. Michael Caines was the chef for the lunch we had there. Would go back again. Quite pricey but nice for an occassional treat!
Gidleigh Park Hotel in Devon really is in the middle of nowhere and takes some finding, but it is certainly worth it!
As it was lunch and we drove the consumption of wine was limited to a couple of glasses. Whilst extensive and of great quality the list was still a little on the pricey side making even the set lunch, with service, around £150 for two. Ideal for the occasional treat and we'll save up to stay over next time!
Absolutely outstanding. Definitely worth splashing out and coming here. Fantastic service and gorgeous food.
Gidleigh Park fulfils all expectations. Everything has already been said in its praise. We went with one in a wheel-chair and one on crutches: the service was amazing, highly attentive but in no way smothering. The sommelier, after he'd realised the mistake of asking my [male] partner to order - I was paying - was delightful as I carefully chose the cheapest white on the menu. There's class! But you don't get the assumption that the male is paying in London any more do you?
Amazing food, stunning location and fantastic service. We had a fantastic evening - it was everything we'd expected. Nothing to fault. Great wine list, good cocktails and unusual disgestifs. Although it's quite formal we felt relaxed and our every whim was attended to. Can't wait to go back - well worth the trip to the depths of Devon.
The food was fantastic the difference in the details takes it to another level the service was also impeccable, we went for lunch a must for any foody but maybe a bit stuffy.
Gidleigh Park - great setting, very nice sitting room for drinks and then dinner in one of the rooms set for 6 or 7 tables. Excellent quality cooking throughout. We went for the seasonal tasting menu which was excellent, fois gras, quail, pheasant etc. Service is very attentive without being over bearing.
Gidleigh Park was well worth the visit, beautiful surroundings fantastic food & fantastic servie the only very small thing was that it wasn't very busy but it didn't spoil the experience as the views were beautiful & the service was very attentive without being over the top!
Gidleigh Park was everything we expected after reading the reviews - Welcomed in the car park and attentively looked after until we left. Food glorious but just a little too much 'foam' on the menu - the dishes all stood out without this recent fad.
Gidleigh Park shows what you need to achieve in order to get 2 Michelin stars. Pricey (though not particularly by London standards), but there was absolutely nothing that could be faulted.
Our visit to Gidleigh Park was perfect from start to finish. We chose the classic tasting menu, every course was delicious can't wait to go back again!
