Gilbey's Bar, Restaurant & Townhouse
Originally an old butcher's shop, we created one of the first wine bars outside London in 1975 - The Eton Wine Bar. After 25 years of success, we changed the name in 2000 to Gilbey's, having recognised that our food had outgrown the original wine bar concept. Our friendly and efficient team look forward to welcoming you in either the stunning Conservatory Restaurant, cosy Front Bar and Townhouse, one of our newly opened Townhouse guest bedrooms or our top floor studio apartment-our exclusive guest accommodation.

This family owned restaurant caught our eye walking past.
It’s website was easy to navigate and the on line menus and wine lists enticing. Booking was simple. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant to the moment we left we were treated well.
Tish who looked after us, and her colleague both acknowledged us on arrival, the service was just the perfect balance between professional and friendly. The menu varied and food excellent. The wine list is worth reading just by itself with entertaining descriptions that entice you.
The restaurant itself is well appointed, clean and beautifully decorated with amazing artwork and a lovely little courtyard garden. We had a really lovely evening thank you.
Discovered by accident and what a find. Fantastic welcome from Calina, what a great asset she must be to this restaurant, we were really made to feel special. The service was great, nothing was too much bother and the food and wine excellent. We will definitely go again next time we are in Windsor. Thoroughly recommended
Food was good, room quite chilly, staff very corporate at first with headsets which was odd for Sunday lunch. and very odd pricing. But delicious and we had a lovely service after initial speaker/headset hiccup.
I would recommend Gilbey's to someone who doesn't need too much service. The food and ambience were very enjoyable but we struggled a bit with getting the sides to the main courses (which arrived somewhat after the dishes) and never managed to order a glass of wine as no one came back to take our order. None of that was the end of the world, and our waitresses were very pleasant - just rather lackadaisical.
Don't normally do this kind of thing (write reviews of places), don't use non-professional opinions (the bloody Harvester on the road to Runnymede gets 5 stars for God's sake). So for what it's worth the food was both beautifully prepared and presented; was delicious and the staff were both friendly and efficient. It's expensive but good value.
Enjoyed a family meal at Gilbey's on a Saturday lunch. Food was good, service was excellent. It is recently expanded and looked small from the street, but had lots of space out back.
Generally very good but rather noisy adjacent tables
Lovely food atmosphere and service. We visit frequently and have never ben disappointed in the quality of food and service
Extremely slow service and an inedible main course. Won’t be returning.
Very friendly service, great value set menu for early dinners even on weekends! Absolutely delicious starters and mains - the extras were a bit disappointing and overpriced but overall it was a lovely dinner and we would definitely come back if in the area! Drinks also not too expensive so overall the meal is good value.
We took friends there for dinner and had a lovely time and the food was great. Would recommend for sure.
Gilbeys restaurant is the perfect place to wine and dine, the food, service and ambiance is amazing. I love it there.
Dinner was lovely, everyone really enjoyed their food and the puddings in particular, especially the salted caramel ice cream.
Had a wonderful birthday lunch. Food was exceptional, service attentive and atmosphere lovely. Will definitely be returning.
Lovely décor, good food and service nothing to complain about! Enjoyed it.
We had a fantastic meal. The service was a little slow BUT that was perfect for us as it was a chance to catch up with friends who live in the US. Even though it was a little slow- the guys were really attentive and genuine in wanting to make sure we were having the best time
Fine food, nice service, excellent value for money
Good menu, innovative and tasty food in a relaxed and informal ambiance.
Food was very average. Not as good as last visit
Gilbeys has an excellent and extremely good value wine list. Menu does not disappoint and chefs delivered on high expectation. Loud party in that night which distracted a little but overall very enjoyable
Excellent friendly service and set menu was very good value. Mussels were huge
The food was great as was the staff and I've always liked the decor in Gilbey's.
Food was amazing and such a reasonable price. The service was faultless and the decor really relaxing.
We had a delightful, reasonably priced lunch in very pleasant surroundings with kind and excellent service. We recommend this restaurant and will return.
Dinner here with my grandson the evening before our return home to US. It was a wonderful choice for a memorable evening.
Love Gilbey’s Always excellent service. Their staff are always fantastic. Food is delicious too. It’s my favourite place to go.
This restaurant is so much more than you can see from the outside! It has many beautiful decorated rooms and a garden in the back. All very clean and comfortable atmosphere. They cater for food requirements and cook as you need it! My teenage daughter was a happy cookie because she could enjoy the food she ordered. I had the most delicious mussels dish I had for years in a restaurant! We loved it there !
Excellent as always. Changing menus and beautiful food is appreciated
As a long-standing client of Gilbeys, I expected the food, service and atmosphere to be excellent and I, together with my guest, were not disappointed.
Excellent food here as ever. Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Only criticism was the outside tables are used by smokers and this rather spoilt a lovely window seat. Perhaps a whole premises smoking ban could be considered.
Both the risotto and bass were lovely. Balanced in every way. Wine reasonably priced, well cared for, and for once not just taken from cold storage (Malbec).
Been here on a similar few days away some years ago and impressed enough to book here again. Good choice. Highly recommended.
Excellent evening, as always. Lovely, homely feel. Waitress and chef went out of their way to cater for one of our group, who had wheat and shellfish allergies as well as disliking butter. Can't praise them enough. Will be going there again.
Fantastic food at very reasonable prices
Excellent Sunday lunch. We sat at the back which was lovely. The waitress was lovely and very helpful. This is our second visit and it didn’t disappoint. Thank you!
About a year since our last visit, has always been a good local for us. Decor looks good. Very disappointing and poor quality rib eye. We wanted to eat together so rather than complain and have 3 people finished before another steak was done we decided against a complaint but wanted the feed back to the kitchen to mention it was unacceptable quality (tough), size and not medium rare as ordered.
To be fair to the Manager he presented a bill and had taken off the cost of the streak, this was very fair as we were not looking for a discount of any kind.
Would need to convince our guests though to return - the steak should not have left the kitchen!!
Having to sit on a bench seat with a round table (to small ) seems pretty strange to me as 2 of my party had to sit at an angle to eat there meal would have been better bench seating square tables
Nice restaurant but the food although beautifully presented was not as good as it looked. The fish had the taste of being stored incorrectly as did the dessert which had a mild garlic taste.
This is our favourite restaraunt in Windsor. The food is excellant, beautifully presented and affordable.
Disappointed with the beef... was quite stringy & chewey...
Choc sponge pudding was over cooked & the cheesecake wasn’t set & was rather runny.
Amazing food and service!!!
We have been going regularly to Gilbeys since early 2011 and I have to say the food, service and ambience is the best in town, including Windsor. Pound for pound it’s in our top 5 UK restaurants and after 9 years it still serves up delicious, beautifully presented, innovative meals at a very reasonable price.
