Gilbey's Bar, Restaurant & Townhouse
Originally an old butcher's shop, we created one of the first wine bars outside London in 1975 - The Eton Wine Bar. After 25 years of success, we changed the name in 2000 to Gilbey's, having recognised that our food had outgrown the original wine bar concept. Our friendly and efficient team look forward to welcoming you in either the stunning Conservatory Restaurant, cosy Front Bar and Townhouse, one of our newly opened Townhouse guest bedrooms or our top floor studio apartment-our exclusive guest accommodation.

Great food
Great find. Will be going back. Food was excellent and service great
Squeezed in a meal for 2 before another lockdown. Staff very good despite obvious concerns a few ingredients not available due to closing for lockdown. Lovely spot, great food. We will be back
An excellent evening with good food, wine and service. As always.
Amazing food as always. Great service and lovely surroundings . Can’t wait to come back
Our lunch was simply outstanding. Great food and suitably attentive service with informed suggestions made in response to our requests.
A last chance before lockdown opportunity- champagne and gin cocktails much appreciated!
Lovely meal and great fun. Waitress was brilliant and we enjoyed our evening.
Although I had requested a table in the "original bar area of the restaurant" with my online open-table booking, we were placed at a window table in the "new" area, where there was little atmosphere or ambience. Disappointing!!
Great set menu with some nice variety of dishes. This time the pudding was the highlight with a lovely take on a creme Brule. Nice wine in half bottles.
Early evening meal booked for 6pm. We were welcomed in to the restaurant in a very pleasant manner and offered drinks. The meals were extremely good and the service was exceptional. there is a great ambience at Gilbeys that makes it a great Bistro atmosphere in the heart of Eton.
The staff are extremely helpful. The restrooms are extremely clean and tidy.
I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant
Lovely food , great lunch time set menu . High quality food at a reasonable price .
Great service and food
I love this place, one of my absolute favourites, excellent quality and great value for an exquisite restaurant.
Great food and service limited menu so for fussy eaters may find difficulty in choosing. Enough choice for most. Waiting staff are friendly and knowledgeable
Lovely food! We had the set menu-delicious food at a great price. Will definitely be returning.
The food was probably the best we have had at Gilbeys the standard of the cooking and the presentation was top drawer
The atmosphere was also very welcoming even in these strange times and the staff went the extra mile to make us feel comfortable
Well worth the round trip from Surrey this is one of the best restaurants around
Great space. Lovely service and the food was absolutely delicious. Cant wait to go back there very soon.
Always great food! Now more clean and safe measures to make you feel relaxed. Service very good - never rushed, and a nice ambiance despite fewer patrons!
Love this resturant!
Lovely restaurant with a great ambience, not too loud, not too quiet, and the food is always superb. By far one of the best restaurants in the Windsor & Eton area, it wasn't our first time dining at Gilbey's and certainly won't be our last!
Superb food at a reasonable price in a lovely restaurant with excellent service.
Fantastic set lunch menu, I had two course, pate and then Venison, and a lovely bottle of Primitivo. My guest had the pate and the fish and chips. Food excellent and great value. Highly recommend this well established restaurant.
Delicious food in a warm and cosy setting, great service too.
We both had pate and venison - delicious. As I didn’t want potato they offered to give me more vegetables instead. Thanks!
One of my favourite restaurants...
Had a lovely birthday pre lockdown dinner. Restaurant had good social distancing of tables and staff maintained good distance whilst still making you feel welcome.Food was to its usual high standard and presented so well on plates. Even had a candle in my ice cream dessert. Loved our time there and will be back after lockdown ends
Excellent friendly place to eat delicious dishes and enjoy gorgeous wines.
All was excellent apart from the room temperature which too high but other than that I can’t rate it highly enough!
Nice ambiance, good service, excellent food we had a very enjoyable lunch. One observation though the restaurant closed at 3pm and must of turned away at least 12 possible customers!!
Great restaurant at such a reasonable price. Will be coming back when I'm in the area.
Good, great service , interesting dishes, cooked to high standard
Hidden gem, tucked away in the streets of Eton.
Food was amazing, can’t believe we haven’t been here before.
Will definitely be recommending to friends and family and can’t wait to return.
Outstanding food and service.
We would definitely visit again
This small restaurant on the High Street Eton is a delight. A warm welcome and excellent service throughout the meal without being rushed.
The menu is varied and the food excellent and well presented. I had the fish cake to start and followed this with confit duck leg.
I went to Gilbeys for lunch with my wife and son. Although we weren't feeling overly hungry, we did each have 2 courses.
Funnilly enough we each ordered the exact same dishes with pâte followed by mussels.
The food was amazing, in fact my wife said that these were " the best mussels i have ever eaten"..... !
The restaurant was fairly quiet, so it was very peaceful. The service was quick and cheerful and all in all we had a fantastic time. I will definitely be booking again, the next time i visit Windsor.
Another excellent meal with an interesting menu. Consistently good over many years that we have been customers. Adapted well to the current restrictions.
Nice table and atmosphere. Efficient and unobtrusive service
Food and menu choice excellent.
NIce set menu although starters seemed smaller than last time.
Pork cheek well worth a try as it is a very good dish.
Good to see a restaurant doing half bottles of wine - more should do the same.
My only comment would be that the deserts on the set menu could do with a bit more variety.
Overall very good
The set lunch was delicious and very good value.
Very nice house wine
Lovely service will definitely return
Really lovely meal - recommend the roast belly pork
