Gilbey's Bar, Restaurant & Townhouse
Originally an old butcher's shop, we created one of the first wine bars outside London in 1975 - The Eton Wine Bar. After 25 years of success, we changed the name in 2000 to Gilbey's, having recognised that our food had outgrown the original wine bar concept. Our friendly and efficient team look forward to welcoming you in either the stunning Conservatory Restaurant, cosy Front Bar and Townhouse, one of our newly opened Townhouse guest bedrooms or our top floor studio apartment-our exclusive guest accommodation.

I wish I could give 10 stars!!!! the service was impeccable I mean absolutely amazing!
The fish cakes as recommended by our server was mouthwatering 😋
EVERYTHING was really lovely and the food was great.
We had an excellent family dinner with Gilbey’s. The service was chatty and friendly, but not intrusive. We were made aware immediately that they had a very large function in another room, and they let us know up front how long meals would take which was really appreciated.
The quality of the meals was of the highest possible standard.
We will be back.
Superb food, fantastic service and a great setting.
Set menu is great value and food quality was very good.
The server was lovely, charming and efficient.
Will definitely return.
Consistently excellent food, good service and the best wine list I have come across.
We enjoyed our lunch nicely prepared and served what else can I say?
Excellent service from really friendly staff. Food superb. Ambience perfect for a lovely night out for dinner.
What a great place! The overall decor is charming and relaxing. The service was very good, but not intrusive. The food was top notch. The price was as expected. I'd happily visit again.
Very well looked after for a family lunch. Thank you
Great traditional restaurant with great staff that only enhanced the food and the place.
Our food was delicious (Sunday roast), our waiter was very attentive and engaging and the overall experience was very pleasant. The only downside was the waitresses, we heard them making snide comments about other customers and eating in the restaurant in view of everyone, not very professional!
Wow what a gem. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were welcoming and the atmosphere was buzzing. Would definitely recommend and will be returning on our next visit. Fabulous!
As ever, excellent food. Menu is always different and interesting.
Whilst the food was ok, the service was not and it made for a mediocre experience which was a shame.
I visited on a very quiet lunch time and the waitress was extremely slow to attend to us and we had to ask several times for things we ordered. For example, we ordered wine just before the main course arrived and it didn't get to our table until after we finished, even though we asked several times. She did not seem to be in hurry to do anything, but took the liberty of adding 12.5% service to our bill.
Delicious food, well made and beautifully presented! I love the fact you can see the chefs at work. And what fantastic work they do!!! Absolutely nothing wrong with our dinner. Even the house wine Bastille was delicious!!
I thought this restaurant was lovely and we had a lovely table in the window however the menu was quite limited and also our main courses took ages to arrive.
Excellent Sunday lunch..! Service a bit slow but you were busy. Server was exceptionally lovely..!
We had a really good meal. The new part of the restaurant is absolutely lovely, so bright and cheerful. We loved it. The food as always was excellent. The service was haphazard, plates weren’t cleared and requests “forgotten”. However, the waitress was very polite and helpful. She apologised for not giving us the best service she could and explained that she was too busy as all the food came at once. We completely understood and will definitely come again 😀
Brilliant food shame about the service. Table for 4 booked for Sunday for lunch. When we arrived was told to walk down corridor, past the kitchen to our table. Not shown to our own table! Table was next to bar with 3 feet clearance so staff / customers walking behind your head. It would be better if the tables opposite bar were removed. Waited 15 mins for waiter to take order. waiter suggest to order bread as starters will be 10 mins. Bread arrives with starter. Waiiter did apologise and says not charging for bread since it came late. Butter was hard but bread was good. Presentation of dishes were very good and food was delicious. Servings were adequate. Staff were overwhelmed by large party and clearly not trained enough.
Lovely food and service. Had requested a certain table and although it wasnt the right one we were given it was nice to be asked and for the effort to be made. We were given a lovely table in the window.
Food was excellent. Fresh and flavoursome.
Very enjoyable evening.
We look forward to returning.
Had a wonderful lunch, how refreshing to find good friendly service, great food and a kitchen that doesn’t resort to overseasoning everything to substitute good technique. How a restaurant should be, many thanks.
Special occasion lunch to celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary. Requested window table was available so very pleased.
What I didn't expect was 8/10 footballers some in their shirt and shorts plus a family with crying baby and pushchair constantly having to push past our table to reach the exit on 3 occasions.
Spoilt the day.
Nice place, great food. Will be back next time I'm close
We had an amazing evening. The food is phenomenal. Beautiful flavours. The service was excellent. We had a lovely seat in the window and good conversation with the lovely ladies on the next table. We dine out a lot in some very nice places but Gilbey's has to be the best place we have eaten in so far. We live in Windsor so will be visiting them again very soon. In fact we have a special celebration coming up soon and we will be looking to hold it here. A hidden treasure and our new favourite place.
Outstanding food and service. Sometimes quite quiet so not much atmosphere but beautifully decorated and the chef is incredible.
Fabulous Food and the Cote de Rhone was special . We can really recommend as a great place for pre theatre dinner or meeting friends .
Recommended to me by a colleague, I'll definitely be back again...
I’ve given only 4 stars for food because my husband’s food wasn’t very hot, albeit delicious, and he didn’t given them chance to rectify. We had the Sunday set menu. Overall of 4 stars reflected that. Otherwise happy with everything else and will return.
Second time eating at Gilbeys first time
Was lunch and before the extension. We enjoyed our experience but thought the table settings were too close together and made it feel as if you needed to acknowledge the people along side you! Better for a table of four than perhaps just a romantic meal. Great decor though .
Excellent Sunday lunch for my birthday. The beef was melt in the mouth tender and cooked just perfect, thank you
Fabulous Sunday lunch. Roast beef was cooked to perfection and generous portions.
Unfortunately our experience wasn't great, on arrival we were walked through kitchen area to get to conservatory tables at back, not sure why we could walk through other side where there was a seating area and tables as this wasn't great first impression. Took ages to get our order taken, then red wine was split over menu and table when poured. Waited for over an hour after starters until we had to ask and apparently the waitress had not put order through after starter. Food was actually great but let down by service. Manager did apologise and waived service and gave us a free bottle of wine, however as we had brought our guest there we would have just preferred great service. There was a lot of staff standing around chatting and we then had to wait ages to get someones attention to get bill
We had a dinner here for my dad’s 70th birthday and it was lovely. Great service, fantastic food and a lovely restaurant.
Really lovely meal for our date night . Staff were really friendly, helpful and attentive. Will be back.
Up to the usual high standard
Fantastic food and a lovely restaurant to eat in. The staff were really friendly. Would definitely come again. Good value for the food quality.
Great wine bar (with rooms!) conveniently located in the centre of Eton, with lovely food, especially relaxing for a Saturday lunchtime. Can be a little cold if you're seated near the front door! We went in winter.
Located in a charming neighborhood in Windsor/Eaton, Gilbey’s is quite the popular location. It has a nice selection of food, including good vegetarian options. Service was adequate but not particularly attentive. While somewhat pricey in general, the prixe fixe menu does office a nice value.
Food average and expensive service good in patches, some waiting staff a bit disinterested , wouldn’t return in a hurry
We had a very enjoyable evening with delicious food, great service and a good atmosphere.
