Very pleasant bar area. Delicious food. The nicest steak I’ve ever had. Unbelievably expensive. Staff very slow and not very attentive. The dining area lacked atmosphere.

The only good thing to say about this restaurant is that the view is fantastic, so please don’t waste your money eating here but just have a drink at the bar and take some great pictures of the Palace of Westminster.
Service was appalling, we asked for a jug of tap water to which the reply was Still or Sparkling!.
The rib starter was so minuscule that the chef must have dissected an ant , the meat can only be compared to Findus sliced beef in Oxo gravy .
This is supposed to be an upmarket Steak Restaurant, my ribeye can only be compared to a Sunday bbq steak flame grilled in bbq lighter fluid .
I’m being very kind in this review but please take note and do not waste your money and eat elsewhere.

Very disappointing, barely warm chips, cold spinach. I expected to pay a lot for the location and reputation but this place has gone downhill compared to previous visits. The staff were helpful to remedy the problem, but free items do not resolve the sense of sadness when we had looked forward to a lovely lunch out.

The service staff couldn't do enough for us, it was simply amazing service!

I have never felt so looked after, I would highly recommend.

The food was stunning, even my son who is a picky eater demolished his.

Great and friendly service. We asked to move tables and that was no problem, done with a smile. Food very good and good portions. Quiet, roomy and quite classy decor and good that it overlooks river. Very pleasant.

Delay in sitting us yet hardly anybody at the restaurant. Starter was amazing but let down by the steak which was tough and fatty.

Service was pleasant

I was the only person in the restaurant at the time and it took ten minutes for someone to take my order, some staff were vacuuming and cleaning the floor while the restaurant was open which is just unprofessional.

For the last 4 years Gillrays has been my restaurant of choice while in London in future I will think twice.

Regards,

Joe

Location is good.
Set menu had 1 of 3 starters not available.
Despite 2 waiting staff they couldn't get the order correct.
No vegetables served with main course - vegetarian wellington or salmon burger.
Difficult to see where the value is - 2 pieces of hallumi to start and potato in pastry, the size of a wrap for main = £22 - then service added.
One steak sent back as overdone - asked for Medium rare.
Service slow. Quick to add 12.5% on the bill though.
These things are hard to remedy though.

Felt the menu was slightly overpriced for a lunch time visit. We only had just over an hour so had to rush and feel a more balanced menu could have accommodated.

The view is lovely and the restaurant is quiet so you can enjoy your meal and have a decent conversation
The service was a little on the slow side and I would say food presentation doesn’t marry up with the surrounding
Food was good but a little pricey

Starters were good but very over priced steak that was nothing special and did not include anything except a piece of garnish. Sides were nice but all in addition. Staff abandoned you at a table and had to be chased to be given a menu. Had to wait for 45 mins for a dessert menu after mains were cleared.

What a great evening we all had. We were very well looked after all evening, starting in the bar, once seated and all the way through all the courses. The food was superb, the steaks were cooked to perfection and the service was excellent throughout. Couldn't recommend the evening highly enough. Thank you Gillray's.

Service is exemplary. Choice in menu is ok - we went for the set menu - a la carte is extensive and amazing. Food was delicious.

Venue was quiet, only about 6 out of 20 tables being seated.

Slightly over priced on drinks and food. Steak was a bit bitter, salmon burger was yummy, chilli squid were a bit chewy and was slightly low on portion. My son really liked the breaded fish. Overall experience was okayish, wouldn’t recommend to any one for a steak atleast(being a steak house , this was expected to be good as a minimum)

We visited Gillray’s yesterday for my partners birthday, travelling from Portsmouth, in the hope of recreating a fantastic experience we had there in the spring. We arrived early and had a drink in the bar before we seated in the restaurant, the environment is lovely. At the time of our reservation, we were taken to our table and told someone would be with us shortly. No one came, and we watched other people receive attentive service whilst being seated and handed their menu. We waited until finally catching the attention of a server and asked for service and who handed us a menu, we ordered a drink, and chose our food. The drink took a long time to come, the restaurant at approximately 30% capacity after an apparently busy stint beforehand and servers standing around watching behind the bar area. Our drink arrived, eventually. After ordering our food, we watched it abandoned to cool down to room temperature on the bar while two servers stood behind it waiting for our (clearly busy) waitress to bring it over to us rather than bring it over themselves. Our waitress was attentive, but over worked. She seemed to be serving all of the tables, yet multiple staff members standing around looking vacantly out of the window to what is, quite honestly, a lovely view. The steaks were cooked well (and very well rested!), the chips were cold but edible, the peppercorn sauce was not even warm. The overall experience was incredibly poor in the restaurant, and had it not been a busy Saturday evening in London we’d have left and eaten elsewhere. The bar however, is lovely. Unfortunate and most likely visited on a bad night. Would not recommend the restaurant and will not return.

The food was ok, not worthy of the price tag. The steaks had a such a write up but didn’t live up to the hype. Have had much better elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.
The staff were absolutely lovely.
Unfortunately very little atmosphere in the restaurant.

Booked a table for 6pm as we had theatre tickets at The National for 7.30.
We ordered our food, just a burger each (by this time it was approaching 6.20) mentioning we weren’t time rich. At about 6.35 reminded the waitress that we needed to leave by 7 and the food finally arrived at 6.50. We bolted our burgers and ran!
The staff were very nice and helpful, the food uninspiring and I wouldn’t especially recommend this place, even if you weren’t in a hurry, there are loads of more interesting places to eat in this area.
The venue itself is a great location.

Slow service, we were sat for 40 mins without being offered a drink whilst we were waiting for our table.
Once we highlighted the urgency to the manageress they were very much on the ball.

The place looks nice and we were welcomed and taken straight to a good table. Our waitress was lovely and really friendly. It was relaxed and great for a catch up with my sister. The food is another story though. We ordered calamari and sweet ribs to start. The calamari was hard and rubbery and was served with a pot of green sludge that had no discernible flavour. The ribs were tasty. I had the spatchcock chicken (poussin actually) which was tender but had no seasoning at all. On top was a Cumberland sausage. Nothing special. My guest had a burger which was OK. We ordered triple cooked chips and salt and vinegar chips - that had no salt and vinegar taste. The range of sides was poor - only one thing resembling a vegetable - so the whole thing was a bit bland and basic. I could handle this kind of meal at a motorway service station cafe but at £128 for the two of us I think this restaurant needs to up its game on the cooking front!

Perhaps my expectations were too high after being recommended this by a friend.

Probably the worst steak I have had ever. “Triple” fried chips were soggy like oven chips.

My advice - Avoid. In central London it is easy to get a far better steak for the the same or less money.

Service was a perfect level of attentive but not intrusive and the staff were very helpful. Had the chowder starter which light and extremely flavourful. Steaks were cooked exactly how we asked then to come and the sides were tasty and plentiful. Would definitely visit again.

Limited menu choice and expensive for what it was, except for the children’s pasta where they provided enough for a whole family in one dish!

Extremely disappointed with the peanut butter cheesecake, nothing like you’d imagine it would be. Basically a dismantled cheesecake with 4 peanuts scattered on the top!!
