I've hosted many dinners at Gillray's Steakhouse, and myself and my guests have always been been impressed. On this occasion however, the restaurant didn't quite meet it's usual high standards... The filet steaks that we wanted were unavailable (fair enough - they'd sold out), so we ordered rump steaks instead. However, a while after ordering the waiter returned sheepishly, to announce that the chef wasn't happy with the quality of the meat, so could we order something else (again, unfortunate, but I appreciated the chef's honesty - we went for sirloin as our third choice). The food when it arrived was as delicious as ever (although the wrong sauces were paired with the wrong steaks). The service was very slow - I was happy that the restaurant was quiet and we were not being rushed through our meal, - but one of my guests complained that he was frustrated that there was no waiter to call over, and made a small scene when a waiter eventually appeared. The restaurant was good at catering for the wheat-intolerance of one diner. The bill was £281.19 for the five of us - which was more than I felt was fair bearing in mind the difficulties (and on checking the receipt after I'd returned home, I noted that I'd been charged a random £1.50 for a bread roll (we hadn't ordered or received any bread rolls).
The food honestly was average. It was good but not great. It took a while for our meals to come out. I have been in town for almost a week and had better meals.
We ended up choosing this spot since we are staying at the Marriott and have an early flight out the next day. We wanted to grab something close by so we chose Gillray’s.
Not up to Gillrays usual excellent standard of service or delivery the food was overcooked and the menu Boeing and long delays fir drinks and coffee
Took the wife for our anniversary having had a good meal here before on my own.the ribeye was probably, if not the worst steak I,ve ever been served in a restaurant,nearly cold and mainly fat.the sides and desserts were fine.the manager was very apologetic and took the steaks off the bill and gave us complimentary drinks so I have no issue with that or the staff who were lovely,polite and friendly.it did,nt completely ruin the afternoon as we still had a nice time.i would visit again,but that meat,they can and should have served better.
Good service - ran out of gin...... chips were cold. Fixed the problem but too late!
Starter of squid was a little cold and broccoli was had some darken marks on them.
Steak was nice, maybe a little overdone for medium.
Service was not very attentive and had to ask for bill twice even though the restaurant was not very busy.

The food was excellent but the occasion was spoiled by a waiter who was snotty about me asking for the Theatre menu without specifying that when I booked the table. We both went a la carte but not because of him
Went for breakfast with 3 other firms, they all had omelettes and said it was okay, I ordered eggs royals,, the muffin tasted stale, the salmon was not the best quality and my hollandaise sauce, when it arrived I thought they had accidentally given me scrambled eggs, so it wasn’t good. We were pushed for time as the restaurant loses for breakfast so I just ate through what I could. I was disappointed.
I wouldn’t recommend for breakfast,but perhaps their steaks are much better quality.

I am amazed with the quality of this restaurant and in a Marriott. We had steaks that maybe where the worst we ever had. Not just one but 6 different ones. This is our 4th dinner in London, and I can't believe how terrible this meal was. The price would have made sense IF the meal was the quality advertised. I would avoid this place.

The view was great, the service was good and the food was excellent.
My ribeye was tough and could not chew. They upgraded me to a filet which was delicious. My son ordered a white flaky fish. He got makeral sent it back and got a kids fish and chips. Fish was greasy dark meat and inedible. I just wanted a good meal on my last night! Skip gilroys but definitely go to high tea at the library. Expensive but delicious.

Great service the steak was good but not outstanding however the tripple cooked chips were a revalation and the red wine sauce i would have happily have had in a soup bowl with chunky bread.
No service despite an empty restaurant
We were a party of 8 with 2 children and the waiter made a mess of the order so the adults were all served and they completely forgot about the childrens’ meals which we had to ask about. I know mistakes can happen but my biggest concern on the level of service was about how the waiting staff actually dealt with this. The attitude of staff was poor, didn’t seemed bothered, no speedy resolution and no sight of anyone with some authority (a manager) to help sort it out. We had to ask for something for the kids to eat to tide them over as they were hungry. The food was excellent though so compliments to the chef. The offer of kids eat free was forgotten on the bill so I had to ask them to remove but they only removed the main course not the desert cost off the kids menu so in reality the kids did not eat free. In addition it took about 25 mins plus for the kids to be served two ice creams and we had to keep prompting them. I am very disappointed that a high end hotel such as the Marriott can’t seem to get the basics of good customer service right. I would suggest you look into this. On the basis of the poor service I won’t be back and won’t be recommending to others.

Excellent food and ambiance but service a bit slow
Nothing to praise here. Cocktails in the lounge first. I liked mine . Husband didn’t like his. So, second round ordered mine for both of us. Glasses were half -full and tasted nothing like the first!
Dining room felt like a cafeteria . Not crowded and they brag about the view, yet they sat us next to a wall with no view. Food only fair . Had to ask for bread then had to ask for plates!
Overall, extremely disappointing end to a lovely week in London.
Do not recommend.
3 out of the 4 filets we ordered were dry and all were ordered at medium to medium rare temperature. My daughters hamburger was burnt to a crisp and service was a bit slow. Expected much better for the price.
Service was slow, food was good. Very expensive though.
Hostess said they were fully booked and we could not get a table (even as Platinum level hotel guests). We went on Open Table and found tables open every fifteen minutes. One filet was rare, not medium rare and the other was the toughest ever received in a fine dining establishment. Dessert was comped, we gave it to the guests next to us. The whole time we were there, they were only half occupied.
We went to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. and were treated like royalty by our waiter, Karl (Carl?) was so integral to making us feel welcome and special. What a night!

The various vegetable dishes that went with the Sunday Roast were delicious, and the presentation great. The beef was a bit dry and the yorkshire pudding was fine but not memorable. Servers tried to be helpful but couldn't answer our questions about the food.

We arrived at Gillray's at the appointed time but, were asked to wait in the bar. After ordering drinks we were shown to our table. The staff was very attentive at first but, that died off as the night went on. This was very noticeable and undesirable as empty dishes sat on the table long after we had finished. This was distressing since the restaurant was only half full. In the end we had to ask for our check.
We were hoping to have a nice Easter dinner after a fantastic time in London.
The waiter got everything wrong. They forgot about one side (with the main meat course being accompanied by nothing but 3 cherry tomatoes) and brought a different one for the other plate claiming they "ran out".
The manager, who had been very educational about a cow's anatomy (free advise: some people don't want to be forced to know what they're eating), first said he would take care of the check. Then he came back negotiating ("I'll take care of the drinks, but not the meat, and you can have a dessert"), which made me raise eyebrows. He asked "wasn't the meat good?".
I'm Argentinian. It was good, but not great. And making people feel cheap on a holiday family dinner is not good.
Good voucher but the additional costs were high making the experience quite expensive.
This was our second meal at Gillray's during our week long stay at the Marriott. The ambience and service are very good, and who can't fail to love the views across the Thames? However, tonight my steak was stone cold and meals were slow to come from the kitchen. Our waiter was very apologetic and we were comped glasses of champagne and desserts, but, still cold steak is cold steak. I also think the choice of music might be more subtle.

Beautifully appointed restaurant with views over the river to the Houses of Parliament. We had the three course set menu, and it had some interesting and tasty choices at a very reasonable price.
