GinTonica at The Distillery
We’ve also curated a list of 100 gins from around the world and matched them with complementary mixers and garnishes allowing the character of each to flourish. Alongside this sits a collection of simple, flavourful cocktails with a twist, created by our resident cocktail gurus, using traditional ingredients, flavours & methods from the region.
This was a huge disappointment. It used to be, in my opinion, the best tapas restaurant in London. Great food, great portions, great value. Why would you want to change such a winning formula? There used to be theatre, watching the chefs preparing your food in the open kitchen.
What you get now beggars belief. Instead of delicious tapas, there’s a beef burger, sausage and mash, fish and chips, lamb skewers.
My wife chose the lamb skewers. This used to be a tapas dish. Now it’s a large plate!! The plate might be large , the food certainly is not. 3 very small lamb skewers, 3 cherry tomatoes sliced in two, two very small pitta breads that were hard as nails and cold, a tiny dish each of yogurt and chilli sauce, and for that you get charged £17.95, it was disgraceful. I chose the burger at £12.95, Wetherspoons do it better for half the price and you get a free drink.
The waiter was honest in his response to our complaints and asked that we pass on our comments to the “concierge “.
Well, he ignored us on the way in and though we stood in the doorway waiting to speak to him on the way out, he just carried on texting or surfing the internet on his smartphone, oblivious that we were there.
If you are looking for great food, you most definitely will not find it here, avoid at all costs.
Lovely place to spend an evening sampling the many gins and the tapas
Amazing gin cocktails and tapas, super friendly service, we will go back!
Food was great as always. One of my favorite places to go with a group visiting from out of town.
Friendly staff, great cocktails and good food! We had a very nice evening here!
Delicious tapas, excellent service, relaxed, friendly and open vibe. Will definitely be visiting again.
GinTonica is in a lovely old building at the heart of Portobello Market, and it has one of the best gin lists I have ever seen, BUT in some ways it relies too much on being cool and having good location. The staff were all larking about, ignoring customers, slow service, we had to beg them for a 2nd drink. They should be all over it. So, all in all, I would come back and I would recommend, but I hope the service picks up soon (at these prices, it really should!)
This is a really great place to go with friends or on date night. It is not too noisy and overall I felt it wasn't too expensive. I had a great night here!
Great gin and tonics and good taps. Reasonably priced and attentive service. Very pleasant.
the food is out of this world! It's so good. We went to Gordon Ramsey in London as well and it was so midiocre and expensive compared to this place. Go! It's so worth it!
Service was very slow and didn’t care about anything at all. Didn’t explain about the gin or about the food. We waited a long time for someone to come and show us to our table and then waited a long time again to order food.
Lovely setting, really nice wine. Cocktails were delicious. Service was charming and really efficient. Tables are a little too close together so makes it hard if you are tall! Otherwise great.
The food was quite limited from a choice perspective but when it turned up it was good. The service throughout wasn't particularly impressive and certainly not up to the standard I was expecting.
My reservation was scheduled at 21:30 we arrive at that hour, but the staff told us that in that day they will close at 11 and the food service will be suspended at 22:00, i think they must tell you before the reservation
I will definitely not be going back nor recommending to friends. I was fully expecting the drinks to be pricey but then I was expecting a totally different experience the food was ok the service on the other hand was nothing but useless, on arrival we were left waiting I had requested to sit at the bar on booking which is an option when booking this however depends weather the staff give your tables away as they don’t bother to look at any bookings request. We had to constantly ask to be served all the staff kept doing was chatting to one another this included the manager. The music kept going off throughout the evening couldn’t wait to get out of there
Great tapas, and of course delicious gin cocktails, knowledgeably prepared. The service was immaculate and the setting gorgeous – a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
A great, sociable tapas meal in quaint surroundings. Beautiful food at reasonable London price.
The upstairs dining room is lovely, and although they were out of a few things on the menu (olives and Iberico pork) every dish that came was delicious. The dishes did come out quite quick quickly however, and it would have been better if there was a little more pace to the meal.
This was a great place. Its a shame we had to go elsewhere as we would have loved to stay longer.
The staff were all lovely, very welcoming and enthusiastic, especially the spanish waitress ,unfortunately i didn't get her name.
We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated immediately. The gin selection was extensive and while the G&Ts are by default served filled to the brim with tonic, the staff will happily serve the tonic on the side if asked.
Really nice pub for a get together with friends and listening to Jazz music. Relaxed and chilled vibe.
The highlight of GinTonica are the cocktails. They are made with the utmost care and taste fantastic. The tapas menu is interesting, unique, but doesn't make you go wow. I was actually hoping for the wow you get from chefs with a unique offering. Nevertheless, for great drinks with some Tapas on the side, its a good stop.
Love The Distillery
Great find, great gin, great staff and great olives :-)
We chose a 5pm table, splendiferous gin & tonics and cocktails, a bit trolled by the time the tapas came out but it certainly tasted good. We were the only table there which is to do with our timing - a few cocktails, few tapas and we were at £390 for three - so cheap it ain’t but this is the epicentre of gin-fizzery and general gin-ness.
Found this gem in Ladbroke Grove in the Portobello Road ... booked in advance and the place was buzzing! Great Gin selection. This bar serves tapas with drinks rather than British or European.
We gathered for some tapas prior to our Ginstitute booking downstairs but would gladly have gone back afterwards for more had it been open!
This was my second visit to Gintonica! Love the place. Absolutely friendly staff - especially Delphine- bubbly and charming. It’s a quiet place to enjoy with a friend when you just want to chill and chat. 💕💕
Had a wonderful evening at Gintonica. Sampled lovely tapas - the mackerel & the bonqerones were exceptional! Delish cocktails to accompany & the guys serving were great 😄! Thank you
I booked this place as my cousin was visiting from Kenya! We loved the place and the staff were so caring. We explained we wanted the gin experience and we were shown and explained about the various gins they had and given a taste of few before we made our choice of gin and mixers. The food was great, special attention was given by all the staff and we will definitely visit again. In fact we’ve already planned a visit in October and were thinking of making this our regular monthly place to get together! Loved the atmosphere, and we could actually have a conversation!
Very quiet when we went. G&Ts are awesome - so much choice. The tapas menu was small but everything we had was cooked to perfection. The tortilla and chorizo were both amazing. Had lovely window seat overlooking bustling Portobello Road market. More people came in after us making the atmosphere better. Lovely place to have a gin (or 2) and some really well cooked food. Will certainly come again.
Went for a friend’s birthday and the food was great. Service was also very good. I will go back!
Always fantastic! Phenomenal selection of gin and cocktails with friendly, personal, efficient service. We return time and time again.
Wonderful little tapas place with excellent cocktails. We enjoyed getting a few plates, a few drinks and the atmosphere of the place is pretty cool. Small, laid back and easy going. Appreciated the attentive service, but not overbearing.
Thank you for helping us celebrate my mom's 80th bday - we had a great time - food & drink were terrific!! The service was AMAZING!
Had lovely tapas lunch. Would have given 5 stars if booking had been dealt with correctly. Arrived early and said had reservation, was shown to table upstairs but asked on arrival if could sit in window area.... only 1 other table taken at this point. Told no, as that was also reserved. Half way through meal, received email from OpenTable saying we hadn't arrived. On checking with our very helpful waitiress, she investigated and learnt that waiter from downstairs hadn't heard me correctly and didn't take us to our booked table ... in the window!..(hence restaurant listing us as a no show!)... such a shame as you can see all fun in Portobello Market ... something we went along to experience. That being said our waitress tried to recompense and offered a scrumptious free chocolote mousse as an extra for dessert.
We enjoyed a handful of tapas dishes, which were fresh, authentic and tasty. Our server was very friendly and helpful.
Well worth a visit to Gintonica, if you happen to be in Portobello Road.
Fabulous cocktail menu! The best G&Ts we have ever had.
Gintonica is one of my favourite places. A long list of gins to work your way through, the ambiance is nice a chilled and staff are very attentative. Highly recommend!
