Giraffe - Victoria
12.5% service charge and they forgot at item from my plate
Celebration of old friendships renewed
I was really excited about this restaurant and thought I was going to get a great brunch, but it turns out the 'gluten free option' meant they just took the bread off, not leaving much left on the plate. As I ate it, it became rapidly cold, which suggests it was cooked earlier and then microwaved before it got to me.
Staff were very accommodating and allowed us to change our table. The service was excellent and food was very good.
Tasty dinner with quick service. The cheesecake was amazing!
So thoughtful and considerate. Great service! Thank you.
I am a frequent Giraffe customer and have been to the Victoria Giraffe on many occasions, maybe at least 7 times this year. However on this occasion my dining experience was terrible!
Had a reservation booked for 3pm however didn’t need it as the restaurant was empty upon arrival. As I waited for my guest I was served promptly, by the manager I think as her customer service was excellent, however she went on a break or left during my meal and that’s when it all went down hill.
For my mains ordered the rodeo chicken burger which is my usual, had sweet potato fries which were dire! They were bland and tasteless. So reordered skin on fries, unfortunately no better. Once the main had finished my server asked if my table wanted desert, we said yes. I asked if the sticky toffee pudding had dates in it, he wasn’t too sure and said if I had any allergies it could be noted on my order. He then went on to say that none of the deserts are made in the kitchen, they are pre made and brought into the restaurant. I was shocked to hear this but ordered the pudding anyway.
Well that was a big mistake! The pudding was DISGUSTING! Literally a frozen pudding that was heated to death in the microwave. It was so tasteless, you can pick up nicer ones from Marks or Waitrose. My friend had the profiteroles which were not any better. Reminded me of something you would see in the frozen aisle in Iceland.
I left the pudding however my guest eats anything so he ate all of the profiteroles.
The restaurant got slightly busy, however we were ignored for at least 30 mins. No one came to clear our table or even checked in on us.
The whole dining experience was an utter let down. I complained to one of the servers who then passed it on to the manager however whilst he listened to my complain, he didn’t really seem too bothered and had quite a nonchalant attitude about it all.
My desert and service charge was waived off the bill, however the damage has already been done won’t be back!
Ideally situated near Victoria station and within a few minutes walk of both Hamilton at the Victoria Palace and Wicked at the Apollo. We attended for a pre-theatre meal. The booking was easy and the service prompt and polite. Prices were great especially for London. £10 for a bottle and two for one on cocktails helped. The food was tasty.
The usual reliable friendly staff and good value food - always recommend
A bit more expensive
Had the set menu was great value for money!
We (our family of 4) called to Giraffe after our visit to Harry Potter at Warner Studios ! The waitress working there was a Harry Potter fan too and was great with our kids - so the fun continued. Thanks for a great evening. We really enjoyed ourselves.
Two of us have meals and drinks in a Victoria branch. Giraffe offers 2 for 1 meals and drinks which was good but they charged us about 5.50 pounds for service over less 20 pounds bill which are nearly 30% of the bill, Lol. what a thief!!!. Technically they do not want people coming back to the restaurant . haha. I won't!.
The service was good and so was the food.
We went for a weekend in London for our daughters 7th birthday. We looked on line at restaurants near the hotel and found this. We knew nothing about the place before we went but what a pleasant surprise. Very nice place. Staff all extremely helpful. They even brought out balloons and candles for my daughter when they learned it was her birthday! Food was excellent with a good variety on the menu, all food was cooked in view - the kitchen was open plan. I was really pleased with all 3 courses as were we all. Deserts were excellent aswell. If I was ever up that way I would definitely go again. 5 stars.
Family friendly fast food with a menu with good variety and choice
Delicious food and drinks, tasty how brownie with ice cream, but very noisy
Nice family restaurant good choices.
They offered gluten free and the brownie was delicious! Would definitely recommend especially if you are going to see Wicked as the Apollo is within minutes walking.
Good place for kids, but some of the food is mundane.
Good burger and 50% discount on Tuesdays.
We were late for our meal but the manager was great staff lovely and friendly food spot on will
definitely go again
First visit to Giraffe restaurant which was not disappointing. Visited with husband and 2 children and we all enjoyed our meals. Little mix up with bill but was sorted promptly. Would definitely visit again and would recommend to friends.
The cocktails were OK, the spped of delivery was pretty slow though given how quiet the restaurant was. We opted for the vday set menu which offered good value for money. The starters were nice: chirizo, flatbread and dumplings. The mains were not so good. They were ready before we had finished our starters. The burger was over cooked and dry and the noodle salad was awful! The noodles were cold and undercooked and it really was not a restaurant quality meal, more like something you'd rustle up from left overs! We opted to avoid desert and then due to a till issue we were over charged as the waitress could not work out how to charge us for the set menu, thus we paid full price for dishes. We were in a rush to visit the theatre and did not have the time to challenge the bill but it certainly left a sour taste and we won't be returning.
We always have a good meal at Giraffe. Good food and excellent service.
All was perfect, food, ambiance, service..... Nothing else to say......
We arrived for our 5.15 reservation ahead of attending a theatre show at 7.30. A table of 4 for 3 courses took an eternity to serve, to then deliver below average food that was massively overpriced and not tasty. Vegetarian burger wasn’t available and only one other thing my daughter liked as a pescatarian on menu. We had to ask for the bill more than once, with us being a rush we didn’t fully check the bill to see we had paid the optional 12.5% service charge. We were all in agreement about the food being poor and had we not had the 2-4-1 taste card discount would have been even more upset. We left the majority of one main and a dessert and the waitress didn’t ask us if all was ok with our meals, she probably knew they weren’t good so didn’t want to open herself up to a complaint. Would we go back, absolutely not.
The service was great and the food was good!
This was a nice relaxed and friendly place to take our young toddler for dinner. However the food was pretty terrible. My chicken burger was really dry. It all seemed to have been cooked hours before and re-heated for our order. It arrived far too quickly to have been cooked fresh. Disapointing really.
I have only ever had good experiences with Giraffe, they have friendly staff and great food. As a student I very much appreciate their happy hour on cocktails and love their reasonably priced food.
Very handy for Theatre (Wicked) but was disappointed with the food. I ordered the Curry and it arrived with out the Naan bread which was then reordered and I had almost finished, they took off the bill.
They did not mention the child eats free either so we paid for my grand-daughters meal. Also said in email before that it was her birthday - but nothing!!
Lovely staff, great food! Pre theatre lunch - good value. Would def recommend!
Had a lovely meal, very good service. Food was delicious and we all enjoyed our choices
We chose Giraffe because it offered something for everyone in our party. It's a popular spot, so come early or make a reservation for dinner. We ordered many tapas and shared the plates. We enjoyed the hand-crafted cocktails and sodas as well. Everything was delicious and the wait staff were friendly and helpful. I'd definitely eat here again.
We booked a table for a pre-show meal and the restaurant was ideally located for the Apollo Victoria Theatre.
The food was delicious and cocktails were good value on a 2 for 1 offer.
My only negative was that once we finished the meal as the waiter collected the plates he immediately returned will the card machine for us to pay which I felt was a little rushed as we hadn't finished our drinks. However, I would return to the restaurant and would recommend it
Great restaurant, went with family and there was something for everyone to enjoy at a reasonable price
Food was fine but they were clearly short staffed, took ages to take our order, had to ask a few times for a couple of items. Think they would get it right with more staffing.
The idea of Giraffe is good - get popular foods from around the world, and make them all available. The downside is that you can't get very 'deep' into any particular food culture, but that's probably not an issue for most people.
I had a Malay curry, which was excellent, and the food my daughter ate was decent enough (it's hard to get spaghetti in tomato sauce wrong, but it's also hard to make it amazing.) My wife and I drank mint tea, which was very nice. My wife's meal was pide with halloumi and feta, which was as good as the Malay curry; we had a shared starter of nachos - these let the meal down, being a bit soggy and with the sauces being fairly bland. I had a sundae for dessert - very nice indeed - and my daughter's ice cream was very popular too. Overall, the quality of the meal was very good.
The downside is that we were poked in a corner and largely forgotten about - it took 20 minutes from being seated to placing orders. Once the personnel on the floor changed, things improved remarkably, but still not enough for me to rank the service better than 'poor'.
Great for kids, nice food, I suggest bigger portions, but overall we had great time!!!
Nice location design, very interesting choice of menù with a real variety.
A bit too much noise, but it was a holiday period at dinner time.
NIce and kind service.
The food was very good, to see and to eat.
1/2 price burgers on Tuesdays are good value. Not too busy allowed for catching up with a mate over lunch without having to yell over noise.
