Probably the best food in Cheltenham atm. We will visit again
Second time going in a week and as like before, excellent food, excellent service and an excellent time had. Not much more I can say, its pound for pound the best food in Cheltenham right now.
Nice restaurant and pleasant staff. The menu was different and we all took the same main course. The turbot was OK, but nothing special although I think COVID took its toll because everyone thought we were about to go tier 3 and no restaurants were going to open. I can’t wait to go back in normal times!
Really enjoyed the food and I plan to return in 2021
Wonderful evening - we did the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Highly recommend.
Great food. Superbly balanced dishes with great respect for the ingredients. Some immaculate in house butchery.
Go for the tasting menu, a surprise lucky dip and incredible value.
We enjoyed ourselves so much we immediately booked for NYE.
Nice to visit a new local venue.
Lots of positives and the menu looks good, we had the Christmas tasting menu, 6 courses and 3 matching wines.
The food was of a good standard and some nice touches, maybe could had done with a fish course and a bit more wine for the price.
Will go back again to sample the full menu.
An outstanding place to eat; delicious, quality ingredients and a nice relaxed atmosphere. By far my favourite restaurant experience in a long time and will be coming back.
Best in Cheltenham, great food, wine and service. Can’t wait to visit again.
I love this restaurant. In every respect it is perfect. The food is outstanding; it's a visual as well as gourmet experience. I've eaten around the world and I'd rate it amongst the best. Sophie's cocktails are innovative. "Sloely does it" was made from a sloe and sage homemade wine - the sloes coming from Chef Patron Jonas's father's garden in Oxfordshire. Added to this was a Mulberry Gin and Vermouth. It wrapped around you like a warm blanket. You wouldn't believe that cabbage, as a main dish, could be so tasty with vegetables each treated with special care to bring out the taste - and chestnut cracker! My husband's beef with oyster and hollandaise - special beef chosen on the farm by Jonas - was extraordinary. My desert was Jonas's grandmother's recipe for milk stout Christmas pudding - made by the team 2 months ago and soaked in alcohol at regular intervals. WoW! And they are a very special team at GL50. Thank you for always giving Nick and I such a culinary and special experience.
Amazing experience with the production of a great chef. Creativity with respect of the material and the tradition. Excellent service and nice ambient.
Absolutely delicious food, so memorable. Quite a quiet restaurant, very well spaced and all the staff were so lovely. The food is definitely the focus, and it was very worthy of the acclaim!! Would definitely recommend for a special occasion
Absolutely wonderful food and service from a friendly and knowledgeable team. We will be back!
We went out for lunch for my husbands birthday and the meal, venue and staff were absolutely amazing! We had a fantastic time - thank you! :)
We loved every moment.
Fabulous food and service in this hidden gem.
The food and experience was exquisite without being pretentious.
Wholeheartedly recommend GL50 but only in a whisper so as not to miss out again myself...
Excellent service and food. Glad that I got this booking in before lockdown and looking forward to visiting after.
Complimentary starters were lovely. Venison was really tasty. We enjoyed the cabbage ice cream. Seemed to work with the chocolate dessert.
Brilliant food, probably one of the best restaurants in Cheltenham
From the moment we walked through the door and to the end of our evening; everything was perfect; thanks !
The food was amazing and well matched by careful service and atmopshere
Second time we have been to GL50 and certainly not the last.
Jonas is an amazing chef. His food is exciting and totally delicious.
Sophie looks after everyone with friendly professionalism and her knowledge of the food and wine is exceptional.
Can't fault it. Just wish I lived nearer.
Fine dining with a good surprise with every mouthful.
Excellent service from both front of house and the kitchen.
We were recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. The food was exceptional, but at the price it is only for special occasions (for us anyway). The service was attentive - perhaps too much as I don't like being asked after every course how it was. However, it was really nice to meet the chef/owner as he visited each table to discuss the meal - if we wanted to. The decor is a bit bare so the place feels echoey and I got a bit sick of The Beatles.
Fantastic food and a really nice atmosphere and it was great to have a chat with the chef/owner. Sincerely hope that they bloom in these difficult times as they definitely deserve to.
Absolutely delicious.Food was innovative but not just for the sake of it .Every dish was perfectly balanced and full of flavour.Either GL50 needs to move to Reading or we need to consider moving house.
Fabulous food, beautifully presented and delivered by chefs proud of their accomplishments. This is a gem, even for vegetarians like us. The restaurant is destined for lots of awards
Amazing food in a lovely location with great service - could not fault it and cannot wait to return.
Excellent food of high quality and great creativity. Limited but very good wine list. They know their stuff on the food and wine front. The service was excellent and very personal. The restaurant lacked a little bit of atmosphere due to the Covid modifications but highly recommend. When in Cheltenham or surroundings go eat here.
Food was lovely although some of the bread was very doughie, a bit like cake.
Thought the wine list could have been a bit more extensive with more choices in the lower price range, there was a jump of nearly £10 from cheapest to the next. Staff attentive and friendly.
another first class meal . the pigeon remains excellent.
This place has the feel of a michelin star restaurant, service was excellent, in my humble opinion the food did not taste as good as it looked.
Came here with my boyfriend for our joint 30th birthday, and it was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had. Quirky mix of ingredients, but we love the ethos of the place in reducing food waste. I had roast wood pigeon and it was to die for, and at the end they gave us a little birthday surprise that just topped off an already perfect evening. Thank you so much to the team! We’ll definitely be back next time we visit the Cotswolds.
Good night out, awesome food, great service and good atmosphere. Food was especially good well presented, explained well by chef/server and lovely to eat. Would definitely book to go again. Highly recommend
We had a wonderful night and the best food. It was a perfect place and menu to commemorate our 40th Anniversary! We had the special 8 courses tasting menu option and it was worth. Beautiful presentation and in each one of the course we had the chef to explain what it was on our plate. Highly recommend this restaurant. Sofie was very attentive and also explained all the wines which were being served with the courses. Nice touch at the end bringing us a Happy Anniversary tray with sweets !
Fantastic food and excellent service. Ambient score of good only due to reduced number of diners due to the covid crisis. Would heartily recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back
Our first visit back to GL50 after lockdown and it did not disappoint - we were made to feel welcome right from the start. We felt in safe hands with the COVID arrangements and the food and service were excellent - we'll be back soon
Perfect place for that special celebration or just to enjoy fabulous food in a quiet and pleasant restaurant.

Don’t visit GL50 if you want traditional safe cooking. If you like the surprise of new and creative taste combinations, this is the place to come.
I had the £100 6 course seasonal tasting menu with drinks flight.
The surroundings are modern and, as expected clean and COVID safe. The flavours are intense but the experience relaxed. The emphasis is on local produce and minimising waste.
You feel like a judge critic on Masterchef as the talented young team of (masked) chefs bring each course to your table and describe it to you.
There will be stand out dishes and those where you just marvel at the creativity. A course of burnt brassicas, krispy kale and pickled turnips served with a desert Tokay wine was creative but for me the stand out dishes were: Turbot with crispy chicken skin and black garlic; Pigeon roasted on the bone with a fabulous jus from foraged fruits with trimmings; The pre desert and the main desert of a fabulously dark chocolate torte with cabbage ice cream.
Some of the courses may sound odd but work incredibly well together both in themselves and with the choice of wines. For the accompanying wine flight lesser known grapes and regions prevailed. After an intense Clare Valley Riesling, there was a Greek Moschofilero, German Pinot Noir and some desert wines to set off the creative cooking.
For the quality, number of courses, variety, and experience this is great value. My only disappointment was the lack of a printed or digital menu recording all the wonderful courses for me. The meal though was certainly memorable (in the very best sense). Not a lottery, Fine Dining at its best.
