Spaghetti tossed with pecorino romano, cheese egg, Guanciale & cracked black pepper topped with a gastronomic Italian bacon gelato
Outstanding restaurant in every way. We will return again and again.
I eat here frequently and it truly is like you're eating in Italy. Everything from the appetizers, the meat & cheese board, and the sandwiches to the excellent dinner offerings is amazing. In addition, it is the best homemade gelato you will find anywhere. If you want a bit of a quieter experience, eat upstairs. The bar area and the outside area are great spots as well just a bit nosier and when the Italian Soccer Teams are on, it's quite a great crowd!
Great Italian restaurant with lots of menu items.
They have 24 flavors of excellent gelato.
The coffee is the best.
Always a great dining experience from the food to the service.
Within 30 minutes of confirming our needed getaway to Philadelphia, I heard about Gran Caffe L'Aquila from at least three people. But they all said trying to get reservations at this late date would be impossible. OpenTable made our reservation possible! And the team at Gran Caffe L'Aquila made magic happen. We felt transported to a small village in Italy. The wait staff was attentive and funny - the chef created a symphony of delights (OMG I can’t wait to return! I am so thankful that our friends let us taste their meals too.) and the gelato - heavenly! Loved all the Italian food items for sale, to extend our experience at home. Many thanks to Gran Caffe L'Aquila and OpenTable for such a memorable 5-senses experience.
This place is always a great experience. Good atmosphere , good food, and amazing coffee.
Luigi is the homie
Got goosebumps three times eating there - twice while eating there amazing chunks of parm. And then the first bite of desire gelato. Always my favorite place to eat in Philly.
Excellent food and drinks. Excellent service!
The pasta and gelato were amazing! Wine and service were good!
Best bracole I’ve ever had! Servers, bartenders very personable & accommodating
Fine enough experience but we were in an outdoor “heated” booth and while the waiters and the bus boys kept letting us know that the heating was not on, management and the host team kept saying “we’re looking for the manager to turn it on” and they came at the end of our meal. They really just wanted to save on gas. Meanwhile the meal took forever and they charged us two different prices - one significantly more of exactly the same cup of tea for two different people. Not happy.
We started with their burrata with roasted pepper and burrata with eggplant , both were delicious. For entrees we had Chitarra and their features seafood stew. I’d say the seafood stew was nothing unique and I like the chitarra much better. We finished with their famous gelato which lived up to the reputation, I even bought a pint home. Our waiter Marco was really friendly, one of the best we ever had. The service was a little bit slow but I guess it was because it’s the Black Friday and they had a full house. We definitely plan to go back to check out their other dishes in the future.
Best place we have been to in Philly! I had the carbonara which was awesome. Great service and very extensive wine list.
After a little glitch regarding our reservation, Gran Caffe L'Aquila was a fun, delicious stop for Italian food. Would recommend!
Unfortunately, the noise level was extremely high. We could barely hear each other during our dinner.
My husband had just visited the restaurant and he raved about it. But my main course was dry as was his.
The wait staff was very pleasant.
As always food was fabulous !!!
Its my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia
From the appetizers to the gelato, The food was delicious and service was impeccable. I love this place.
Food and service both excellent. Friendly staff. Vibrant atmosphere.
Food was delicious and service was very attentive
Marco was a great waiter! He was knowledgeable, attentive, friendly and professional- the perfect combination! A great dining experience!
We had a delicious pear salad and a pasta dish. Absolutely the best! Sat outdoors…great lunch.
We loved our intimate dinner in the back area of the upstairs dining room, celebrating a birthday on a quick visit to Philly. Food and Service were both great as well as the wine recommendation. Will certainly be back
Outstanding food and service - and love the atmosphere and the market downstairs
Meal was Fabulous! Service impeccable. Sat in the Romeo and Juliet table which provided privacy and a view of downstairs. Overall great experience!
This authentic Italian Restaurant is a gem! The food was fantastic and the wait staff was very attentive. Will definitely come back again!
My favorite restaurant in Philly ❤️
Excellent food and service. I am planning on returning in the very near future.
The restaurant was quite busy. The service was impeccable and the food even better. The salad Frutti di mare was incredible, fresh, and very tasty. A perfect beginning to a great dinner. The wine list is full of reasonably priced wines. Our dinners were very good as were the desserts. You must try their famous gelato!
Cauliflower appetizer was delicious and many flavors of gelato were a treat👍
Greg was phenomenal! Amazing food and the gelato flight was the prefect end to our meal. Can’t wait to come back!!
Second time here in the last two months. This time was different. The food is still outstanding along with the ambience (in the front room, anyway; it's quieter). The thing that changed this time for us was there was a perception of being rushed. Servers prematurely cleared bread and olive dishes before the appetizers even appeared. DON'T let them do that. They're too good. We were idiots in allowing them to do it.
Perhaps the fact they were busy, contributed to the feeling of being rushed, but they're always busy here. We will certainly come back, which way service will lean towards the next time in. Don't misinterpret what I'm saying. This place deserves to be a destination restaurant worthy of your radar, especially if you're an Italian who appreciates regional cuisine for all areas of Italy. The food is authentic and genuine.
Fun late afternoon meal with a longtime friend. Had plenty of time to get caught up and delightfully tasty gelato (plus very tasty pasta).
10/10 would do again.
Our server Greg did great!! Excellent wine recommendation and great food. This restaurant is one of the best values in City Center!!
