Geweldig! Zo hoeft ik geen voedsel te verspillen
When arrived at the host/maitre d station he ignored us and continued to sift through papers. After way too long a period, he looked up and asked if we had a reservation. I gave him our name and told him it was an Open Table reservation. He asked to see my email confirmation. I showed him the reservation on my phone and he examined it very closely, as if I was trying to fool him. I have made over 100 reservations on Open Table and have never had anyone ask to see the confirmation email. The host then pointed to a table and said we could take that one. He did not walk us to the table, nor did he provide us with menus.
After quite a wait a waiter came over and gave us Dutch menus. Upon hearing us talk, he growled pick up the menus, and returned with English menus.
The food took forever to arrive and was poor. My steak was cooked correctly, but was totally dried out. I wonder how long it had sat out. My wife did not enjoy her shrimp as they were bathed in oil.
We never saw our waiter after he took our order. Someone else delivered our meals after a very long wait. The waiter never returned to ask how our meals were, or if we needed something.
After finishing eating we waited quite awhile, before I was able to flag down our missing waiter and ask for the bill. He returned and showed us our bill on his phone, no written copy. I've never seen that before. I paid with my credit card and the waiter handed me a receipt from another table and said I could have that if I needed a receipt.
The room was nice. It was very large and had once functioned as the waiting room for first class passengers. Passing trains visible outside of the restaurant added to the atmosphere. However, large tour groups and excessive noise were a distraction.
There are so many restaurants in Amsterdam, I would never recommend this one.
Great location and beautiful setting, limited breakfast menu but lunch offers more options. Friendly staff and good service
Everything was top notch. Room was rich in classic architecture and ambiance.
Though I was seated promptly, after having waited for at least 15 minutes with no sign of a greeter to provide menus or to take my beverage order, I was forced to walk to the check-in stand to inform the greeter of my status - which finally prompted a visit by a waiter to take my order.
Beyond that, in general, they seem to be short-staffed, and there were long wait times between each course being served. Further, although I requested my beef tenderloin prepared well-done, it finally arrived to my table (over 30 minutes later) prepared medium.
Overall, it was a marginal dining experience, and I would not return - especially given the breadth of diverse and worthy dining establishments in the area.
terrible food terrible service
Service was very slow. We had to ask multiple times for water, menus and the bill.
Really lovely interior, old station waiting room type ambience, very elegant. Staff dressed very smartly. We had to book in advance as it was very busy - Saturday evening. We opted for the 3 course menu for 30 euros a head, you could choose any three items from the menu so it wasn't a fixed menu. Very good value for money as were the drinks, G&T 6 euros. Only downside was the initial indifference of the staff who greeted us at the door. The guy, who I assumed was the head waiter, gave us quite a sniffy look and said, before I'd even asked for a table"we are full, have you booked"? He didn't escort us to a table, just pointed at it. Our waiter however was quite attentive and brought drinks promptly. Had to wait a while for our starter but the ambience was so nice we didn't mind (the resident parrot is very entertaining!). Meal was very good, not fabulous. We went back a second time, this time for lunch while we were waiting for our train to depart Amsterdam Centraal. Same head waiter was there; this time he didn't even acknowledge us. We sat down and waited over 20 minutes for someone to even give us the menu. Two other tables who were already there when we arrived, actually walked out. Because of the slowness of the service we had to rush our meal because we'd only allowed an hour for lunch. Not sure why as there were several staff just either chatting or milling about, it wasn't overly busy. Nice building, good food; staffing needs improvement.
