Peking duck 2-courses was delicious. Rest of a la carte menu was great too. Wait time for service was long which meant we were starving by the time the food arrived. Overall service was good.
Great service good food , shame the music is on a continual loop within the restaurant and hotel.
Amazing food with appropriate price. Will definitely go back in the near future
very nice dining experience.loved the place and friendly staff.
Excellent Asian cuisine and very attentive staff. Delightful setting only spoilt by the low attendance and eerie quietness that ensues. Drinks choice could be improved by offering customers the choice of beer on tap as well as bottled beer.
However ,an overall good experience and a venue that I would revisit.
Once again, outstanding fare. One of the world's great cuisines done justice in Perth at last.
Delicious peking duck pancakes 🥞
Would definetly go there again for a feast
Thank you, particularly Nancy?
Attentive staff, delicious food. Nice decor in relaxed surroundings.
Food was nice, great service will return again soon.
We had the Peking duck banquet for 2. Absolutely great Peking duck - the best I've had in Australia in years. Sweet and sour pork was fantastic too (loved the lychees in it). Only thing was the toothfish did not pair well with the other dishes, the flavour was too delicate and not as tasty. In hindsight I would get another main packed with flavour to complement the rest of the meal!
Service was also superb. We went at lunchtime and the atmosphere was nice, not too noisy.
Happily would return for a special Chinese meal.
Absolutely stunning dining experience for lunch dim sum; I can't wait to return!
We went to Grand Orient principally for their Peking Duck. There were 4 of us and we ordered the "Peking Duck Feast for 4" set menu. The Peking Duck turned out to be rather ordinary, only to be kind. The chef prepared the duck in front of us which was a half duck but looked over "cooked" as the duck skin was rather "charcoal black" instead of dark golden brown. The taste of the duck skin was crispy but it was the kind of "deep fried" crispiness which is entirely not the kind of "roasted" crispiness that it should be. The other 3 dishes that came with the set were again unremarkable. Overall, we would not go back to the restaurant if our only reason was for the Peking Duck. Though, the service and ambience was acceptable for a business meal.
There is another thing perhaps I should mention. One of our incentives for going to Grand Orient was that they are listed in the Entertainment Book for an offer of 25% discount off the total bill as described in the Book's Terms and Conditions. However, they declined to offer us the discount when we were paying on the reason that the Set Menu was already discounted even though it was not specified in the T&C. Albeit we understand the management has the right to set their rules but that should be clearly specified in the T&C. Without so doing, it is simply not fair to their customers as we could have ordered a la carte to enjoy the discount. I would suggest any one who wishes to use the Entertainment Book should first check with the management to be sure.
Nice dining room décor. Suitably retro background music that complemented the decor perfectly. We ordered the Peking Duck feast. The food was tasty, of good quality and well prepared. The wine list wasn't extensive but was adequate and well thought out, containing sufficient choice for diners. The restaurant was very busy on Saturday evening, and as the noise level increased, the ambiance changed from romantic to energetic. The wait staff remained attentive, were professional and did their best. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience.
A friendly atmosphere, with excellent service, and good food.I certainly will be back.
It was our first visit to your restaurant and it did not disappoint. In fact we were very happy with the service, the staff were all very attentive, friendly and knowledgable.
We had the CNY banquet, where picked 5 dishes plus a Yii Sheng, all were good portion and delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was lovely and exudes a bit of class with their table settings, furnishing and decorations. Prices were reasonable.
Would like hesitate to recommend my friends and relatives to come for a good feed.
Thanks very much.
The lack of vegetarian options and the manger's insistence they could not do anything outside of the set menu was a disaster for my chief guest. That meant spring rolls, san choy bow, seasonal vege's and vegetarian friend rice.
I and another guest asked if they could concoct a vegetarian dish with chinese mushrooms / broccoli or similar. We were flatly told No! No other restaurant has done that to me.
Vegetarian's are more and more common and the restaurants attitude was not pleasant.
Always very good service and the best Peking Duck ever!!
Food was a very high standard
Nice place, friendly staff, most of the dishes are great. Staff sometimes forgot what we asked for (such as chili oil, tissue paper, etc.) and need to keep asking for them repeatedly.
Peking duck was fantastic!
Service amazing, loved the ambiance
Will definitely go back
consistently excellent, thank you. every dish was outstanding yet again.
I will be back for lunch on Thursday as I continue to work my way through the menu.
Great friendly & efficient service & food was very good also.
Best Peking Duck and fresh lobster I have had. Very attentive service without being intrusive and overall just a superb evening.
The best asian food that I have had in Perth. Every dish outstanding.
Our first time venturing into the city for a while to experience a nostalgic anniversary at the Old Melbourne., but definitely won’t be the last. We chose the Peking Duck for two people and it didn’t disappoint. The set meal also came with two extra mains of our choosing and everything was delicious. Way too much food so we took some home for the next night. The service was exemplary and the decor cosy and extravagant. Good value for money, and you can top off your evening with a nightcap in the sky bar upstairs in the totally revamped Old Melbourne - definitely not as you remember it ! Would highly recommend for a special night out of authentic Chinese dining reminiscent of a Raffles experience in years gone by.
Excellent food and service, nice decor in the renovated hotel, recommend
The food and drinks were amazing and the waiters were awesome. Will definitely come again. 😀
Great food, great service. Janice is a star and her team were great. Peeking duck was superb. The deal for 2 was good value
Lovely decor, ok food, but expensive for what you get. Very noisy for a fine dining establishment. The waiters aren't well managed or seem not to know how to work the hotel system. I wouldn't go there again
Food was really great, very authentic and nice touch that the chef brings it out to your table. The restaurant is a lovely decor and good atmosphere. The staff are friendly and very attentive.
The guests at a large table close to us was VERY VERY LOUD!!! affecting the enjoyment of our meal considerably.
It would have helped if your manager could asked them to lower their exuberance, for the benefit of your other guests.
You will come back, as your food is really quite excellent, but hopefully to a much better ambience next time
I wanted to like it as I hv been there twice before and enjoyed the ambience and food. Unfortunately this time it was noisy and the dishes were very much in the bland side. The service was above average . I may try the dim sum but not the dinner again!
Peking duck was so delicious. Good value for money. I will definitely go back again
Always great food and service. The Peking Duck, pancakes and San chow boa is worth eating if a bit different to what I have eaten before.
Always amazing and our absolute favourite place to eat in Perth city
Staff are attentive, friendly, welcoming and make every visit a pleasure and the food is always delicious
Foods are value for money with the special discount, foods taste delicious and good. Service staffs are friendly and pleasant; when dinner talks noise level are bad unable to communicate with friends needs something to soften it.
Great food, friendly service, value for money .. went there for our Christmas lunch and the staff were very accommodating with our requests and didn't rush us out the door.
Hi Penny, thank you very much for your review and we are very glad you had a pleasant dining experience with us. We wish you a happy holiday season ahead and look forward to welcoming you back again soon! :)
The whole family had wonderful time celebrating my 51st birthday! Great food ( especially the angus beef) place & excellent service❤️ The price is very reasonable & worth up to the last cent. Definitely we will comeback!
Thank you Anthonette for such an amazing review, we are very glad you enjoyed your special day with us :) It was our pleasure to have you and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
