The food was all delicious. Ambience wasn’t great with few tables in the large rooms. Service not so good. Seemed like many people were knew..
Awful.. £217 for mediocre lunch!!!
£9.50 for a bowl of onion soup???? Ridiculous.. bar service in lobby appalling.. no southern comfort!! No fresh orange juice..
all round crap experience.. very dissapointed
Arrived and excited and given lovely table. Restaurant was nice and good feel but they were clearly busy and service slow. Ran out if things quickly and by the time my husbands main came it was very small compared to other portions we had seen earlier! I think he had all that was left and the end of the venison! Overall good though.
Fantastic food, prepared by extremely knowledgable and dedicated chefs. Table service outstanding.
Lunch tine menu was great. Good variety of dishes and we could not resist tasting each others food. All were great. Good wine selection relaxed atmosphere . Not too noisy despite a reasonably full restaurant we were all able to hear ourselves talk. Highly recommend if you are looking for a nice lunch on a cold day in Edinburgh.
I booked a table for one for the New Year's Eve menu and arrived at 6pm as the first guest. The service was very friendly and very fast. Almost a little too fast for my taste because I was finished with the three courses after less than 50 minutes. However, there was no pressure from the staff, I could have stayed longer. The food was very good, cooked to perfection and every piece made sense. On the downside I have to mention the poor Whisky list and only few wines by glass (which is an issue if you are by yourself). The price was elevated but acceptable for the time of year, however, I had equally good food for less money in other places.
Great family lunch on Sunday
Great atmosphere, food and service. Debra was excellent
Great food and service. Not much more to say. Everything worked and was delicious.
The food was exquisite, unique flavors 👍
Regretfully the lady at the front kept us waiting almost 1 hour, claiming “your table is being set”. She kept us at the hotel lobby until we requested a table and were finally seated. From then on the meal was delicious!
We have been to Galvin Brasserie De Luxe on a number of occasions and have always liked the ambience friendly service and good food. On this occasion the restaurant seemed a bit understaffed. We had an itison deal of Chateaubriand and a bottle of wine but waited 20 minutes after being seated before our order was taken and then another 10 minutes before we got our wine, we were at our table for an hour before we got our food. Staff were apologetic, I think we were just unlucky with our timing.
Pleasant bistro style restaurant, attached to large hotel. Well cooked and presented French style food.
Very slow service, had to remind them we were there. Food was good but not as good as prior visits. Fish was a touch over cooked and the “shellfish emulsion” looked (and tasted) like a glob of flesh coloured paint. Lovely oysters though.
Seafood was fresh and delicious! Oysters and Grilled langoustines were out of this world! Traditional haggis was absolutely amazing. Strawberry shortcake was phenomenal
We had a great experience at Galvin Brasserie De Luxe. The food was extremely good. I had the snails to start followed by a ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly. I also had the panna cotta which was the daily special - that was good too. The service was efficient and friendly. Overall I really enjoyed it and would be happy to go back.
Comfortable and welcoming. We had a lovely meal, with some difficult choices over a tempting menu. Angus, our server was an absolute star, explaining the details of our choices and adding recommendations. A lovely evening with exquisite food. I look forward to coming back VERY soon.
went for sunday lunch.the food was excellant, and the price for two people was outstanding.will definitely return.
We were looking forward to the Chateaubriand special which we had to order when we made our reservation. My daughter and I shared it, and they recommended cooking it to "medium rare" which is just how we like it. They also suggested we order a starter since the cooking time would be 45 minutes. Our shared starters were Heirloom Tomatoes with Sardines (a few very tiny slices of tomato), and Crab with Mayonnaise which was excellent. Unfortunately, the Chateaubriand arrived extremely rare with a cool, dark red center. I would have liked to send it back, but it was very difficult to get the attention of the waitstaff. It was tender, but lacked overall flavor. The table next to us ordered the same, and theirs arrived cooked to the perfect temperature. My husband ordered the Langoustines, and they were delicious; tender, sweet, and nicely grilled. Service overall was lacking, and the floor manager seemed to be training the staff as they struggled to serve the patrons. Overall, a very disappointing meal.
We took our 8 year old daughter and met up with the in-laws. Excellent atmosphere, great food, lovely staff.
Drinks are extremely overpriced. 15 pounds for scotch whisky (bought for 5 pounds everywhere else in Edinburgh) is outrageous. Very disappointed. Even sparkling water is expensive. Place is so-so. Avoid.
Just too rushed. Good food, but service was off. We asked for a 20min brrak between starter and main, but it was rushed out in about 7 mins... Maybe catering for US tourists, but not for us?? Such a shame as the food was good, but not a patch on the service standard of galvins in london.
The menu for this restaurant looked amazing, scallops, langoustine, steak, all things we love. The scallops were £20, and on asking how many scallops were served, we were advised 2. So we passed on those and opted for chicken consomme and crab starters. The crab was excellent, the consomme was pleasant. No salt and pepper on table, which I know some people don't mind but we prefer the choice. For main, I chose monkfish tail and my partner a fillet steak. The monkfish looked amazing but arrived cold, and I mean chilled to the touch, as if not quite defrosted. So I asked for it to be heated up. The staff member brought it back while my partner ate his very good steak. They did apologise, but no other concession was offered in terms of a free drink or similar, which may have assured our repeat business. The cocktails were good (£16), the dessert good, the cost bordering on prohibitive. For these reasons, we are unlikely to return.
Always a very warm welcome from all front of house staff.
Food delicious and beautifully cooked.
Every time we come here for dinner the experience is always wonderful.
Très bon restaurant, les plats sont d’une grande qualité et très raffinés.
Food rather over cooked. Especially the steak.
Excellent food but service was on the slow side for the main course, which took a long time to arrive. However the quality of the food was excellent. Staff were attentive and helpful.
The special not so special. Fish cakes far too salty. We have this feedback but the restaurant staff not very interested.
Waitresses were very attentive and knowledgable about the specials and food selection when asked. The Venison was delicious! The beef sirloin a little chewy.
I used to go here a lot, but for various reasons am no longer a frequent visitor.
All ok, but they were silly about the reservation made through OT and confirmed the previous day for 2.15. On the day they insisted it had to be for 2 p.m. or earlier because, I assume they weren't very busy. In terms of the time involved, unnecessary and irritating
Excellent food and service. Wine list gets expensive quickly, but Primitivo reasonable value.
Love the Galvin in London—this doesn’t compare. An average experience—average food; well meaning if not terribly great service.
An excellent evening - genuine ‘brasserie’ ambiance, great service, wonderful French bread, good range of food including fresh seafood, family atmosphere. Would certainly go again.
Nice setting, creative, friendly staff.
We all remembered what we had the last time we ate there and some of us had the same thing again. Most popular was the steak tartare starter and the most popular dessert was the hot soufflé - yum! The fish, particularly the cod, was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent and attentive and the final bill was not a shocker.
The Galvin brothers have a good track record. We have enjoyed their food in London too.
Excellent food, excellent value.
I took my mum for dinner after a long day seeing shows and walking. She tried lobster for the first time and loved it. All the food was fresh and delicious. It's one of my favourite spots in Edinburgh.
We were here for a pre theatre meal
.It was most enjoyable and we will return.
Wonderful celebration evening with my family , great personal and discrete service from the second we entered the restaurant, until the moment we sadly had to leave ... We will be back either for another superb evening meal , or to attend the extremely interesting, enjoyable and informative wine tastings.
The Sunday roast was very nice - the brisket was cooked very well - tender and moist. My husband had the set menu of pigeon, pork and chocolate dessert. He said it was nice, but portions could have been bigger as he was still a little bit hungry afterwards. Overall though it was quite good. We had to call the waiter over most of the time to get service (the restaurant wasn't that busy), but once they came to the table, they were very polite and friendly.
Excellent food and great service. Pork cheek and belly were perfect. Crab starter ok.
Been béfore and will go back.
We enjoyed a wonderful evening at Galvin Brasserie where the service was excellent throughout, our steaks were beautifully cooked and the ambience was very good.
