Greek Islands NYC
The owner and staff can’t be more welcoming. Probably best Branzino I’ve ever had.
It’s our favorite restaurant
Small, pretty restaurant with great food and personal service. We really enjoyed ourselves.
We've been coming here for many many years. We know everyone by name (the owner George, the servers), they know what our favorite items on the menu are, what wine we prefer, etc. It is the most reliable restaurant around and we are happy to be there every time we get a chance to come. Food is consistent in its preparation, flavors, and presentation. There's nothing pretentious, superficial, or cute about it: it's always tasty, exactly what we expect, and at times - beyond of what we expect. This is a true neighborhood restaurant every neighborhood should have at least one of, and we can always rely on this place to keep us happy, well-fed, and entertained. We had food in Greece in a number of places, as well as in a good number of Greek restaurants stateside. Greek Islands, to us, is just as good or better than those we visited around the world.
The meal was terrific- from the complimentary chickpea dip with seasoned pita to the whole grilled dorado. One of the best baklava we’ve had. And when I had a question about the wine, our gracious server offered to provide a taste before we decided. Much appreciated. The only criticism is that the grilled shrimp dish was skimpy - four large shrimp - and was pricey for the size. This really is a neighborhood gem!
Right in the midst of the up and coming Little Neck foodie central. Easy parking off on the main road, free after 6/7pm (check signs!). The servers are very attentive and know all the fresh and specials of the day! Authentic and feel good menu!!! Try the spreads and make sure to get at least three!!!
The food was great other than the mussels that came with the Corfu salad which weren't fresh. Service was good and a nice atmosphere.
Souvlaki was little strips of over salted and over cooked
chicken with burnt tasting black char. My mother sent hers back. I should have. Standard Greek salad.
The noise level was deafening. Will never return to this restaurant.
The service is always impeccable. The food is always delicious!
The decor of this place is great. You really feel like you’re in Greece. Sadly the decor was the best part of the meal. I ordered chicken souvlaki with rice. It only came with 4 small pieces of chicken that were way over cooked. One of my favorite things is charred onions and they were barely cooked. To boot it was $18.99. You can get way better value at other restaurants, many of which come with soup or salad which Greek Islands didn’t. Lastly the service was super slow. It took over an hour to get our food which wasn’t worth the wait. They serve pita topped with oregano which would have been good except for that as soon as you pick it up all the oregano falls off. Save your money and go elsewhere.
I have been here several times, and never been disappointed. I am a big fan of their grilled octopus and their greek salad. Their fish dishes are fresh, well seasoned and cooked perfectly! I go back again and again and again...
Always a wonderful dinner. Good, fresh food and excellent friendly service. A true neighborhood gem.
solid food...prices at Manhattan level...noise level can preclude conversation
As usual, this was an excellent choice for dining.
Excellent food and service. Everything is fresh and authentic. Will definitely be going back in the near future.
Very disappointed. Service was not as good as it usually is
Food is always fresh and very tasty and friendly, efficient service make this a perfect neighborhood eatery.
Amazing fresh grilled fish... do not order off the menu, wait to hear the specials!
The food was good. The bill was perplexing as they charged for certain things in lieu of others. As it got busy, the service level dropped significantly. The ambiance was not as elegant as expected. There was no recognition of my special occasion.
Overall value was just ok.
We have frequented many, many Mediterranean restaurants in the past. We compare every one to Greek Islands, and so far we have not found one better! The hosts go above and beyond to make your experience a special one; the food is ridiculously amazing; the ambience is simple but makes you feel you are visiting the Greek Islands! We have used them for catering in the past, and every guest gave raving reviews. Standard gyros are excellent; dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) are tasteful; spanakopita (spinach pie) perfect as a meal. Most importantly tzatziki and meze (appetizers) are often my choice for lunch or dinner! Opa!!!
Outstanding meal. My wife has the bronzino every time we visit here. Excellent preparation and they filet it for her. I enjoyed the salmon with filo. Best salmon dish I ever had. Service was excellent.
Attentive waitstaff and excellent fish. Wines meh and no hard liquor. Good value. No need to go to Astoria.
In the past the food was better, the noise level was not as bad and overall I found it to be just average. My lamb chops were not cooked to my liking but my dinner companion liked the salmon a lot. It was so noisy you could not here yourself think much less have a normal voice level conversation. The wait staff were polite and friendly and were concerned with our meal and comfort.
Good food & nice restaurant!
Very small space, over priced food, although the quality was good
Food is consistently good. Staff is pleasant and friendly. Good neighborhood restaurant especially for fresh fish.
Excellent service; friendly atmosphere; great local place; wish parking was better/easier; food delish.
The food was great, the service was fine. The temperature in the restaurant was way to cold and should
The service was very slow. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to receive our meal. The lamb was tough. The noise level was high.
Fish could not be fresher ......loved what we ordered.....
This is our favorite neighborhood Greek restaurant. Both the avgolemono and lentil soups are delicious!
We love the tzakziki when it's made with lots of garlic and the chick pea salad dip when it's made without the onions. (I'm allergic to onions.) The spinach pie is always tasty with crisp flaky filo. The wait staff are all very friendly, helpful and eager to ensure that you enjoy your meal.
Delicious dinner and they offer a very extensive fish menu. I had the best mussels ever!
We love this place! Great fresh seafood beautifully prepared. The service is friendly and the owner is always around to make sure everything is ok.
My main dish consisted of 3 shrimps. Unacceptable!
Disappointing. Expensive. Grilled calamari was rubbery. Grilled shrimp entree was nothing special. Three shrimp for $32. Overpriced and underwhelming. Wine was watery.
Disappointed. Kebab too salty and salad just ok. Not as good as I remember.
The food is very good here. The staff is lovely but understaffed. Perhaps someone was out sick? We waited a very long time for our dinner. Still will go back since the food is fresh, healthy and a very good value.
Best whole fish in town.... food is fresh and amazing
Relaxed atmosphere-- service is good-- food was good
Love the chickpeas and warm pita bread given gratis. We started with the avgoleno soup and the prasini salad. The fish is always very fresh. We had grilled salmon, whole branzino and the Greek pasta with seafood. Everything was delicious.
