Pub
Welcome to the Griffins Head at Papplewick. The Griffin is believed to be over 300 years old and is a listed building in the conservation area of Papplewick, which in medieval times was the southern gateway to Sherwood Forest. Now this quintessential village pub has a good reputation for offering quality food and drink along with the many original features such as its wooden ceilings, exposed beams and three open fires, not to mention the well in the restaurant!

Felt very safe from covid eating in marquee. Staff very helpful and service was very good. Staff helped us scan the QR code and then order and pay by card using our phones
Fish and chips was huge and very good. Scampi and chips tasty and very good. I enjoyed the lemon tart and my friend enjoyed the chocolate fudge cake.
The only problem was that we had to pay separately for each course using the QR code, we could not open a tab. We did not know we would be able to manage a dessert until we had eaten our main so did not want to order it all at the start of the meal Also there was no facility on the online menu to order decaf, we had to ask a waitress to take our order which she did very happily. All in all a very good experience

We went to celebrate my birthday with family, we pre ordered our food as roasts can sell out quickly. As a regular dinner I would like to see a little more rotation on vegetable side dishes as they tend to be soggy.

We had a very disappointing experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful but they are let down by appalling wait times and substandard food.
An hour after arriving we were told my Hubby’s pie wasn’t available they had only just corrected my main which had been put through incorrectly to be served half a frozen garlic bread chopped into quarters length ways. Two anaemic slivers of frozen bread is not worth nearly £5. After hearing complaints from neighbouring tables we decided we had to cut our losses sent the food back and left.
I hope it gets better I used to love this pub.

I had been once before a few years ago to the Griffins Head for a meal with a friend and the food was good as well as the service.

Unfortunately our experience this time was not good. We waited over an hour for our food and had to chase it up. We got an apology but that was all. There was no real acceptance of their remorse by offering a free drink or something similar as other restaurants have done for us in past so it was if they didn't value us as customers. The food was good but too expensive compared to similar pubs we have been to recently.

Because of this experience i wouldn't recommend the Griffins Head as a good place to eat.

The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Also the other customers seemed friendly too. We have just recently moved to the area and we were very impressed! I think we have found our new ‘local’.

Was a little disappointed with our visit. I was unaware that they had changed the menu and didn’t offer gluten free Sunday lunch anymore.
Can’t knock the food it was 100%!

With the new guidance we were sat outside which was nice as it was a warm.
They are using an app to order drinks or food. We ordered drinks before food and the food came before the drinks! They said there was a technical issue.
Manager couldn’t have been more apologetic, we would have stayed for pudding but as their wasn’t a GF menu we decided not too.

Food came out 2 hours after we ordered it.
2 of us didn’t receive our order which was a pizza and the other had their chicken sent back as it wasn’t edible. Everyone out of the 6 managed to finish their food and drinks before we even got our pizzas. We had to go and remind them twice we were waiting. At this point they admitted they didn’t put a pizza through. Eventually a pizza came out. It was a cooked pizza base with raw onion, mushroom and peppers scattered on top with NO chicken what so ever. It took a further complaint and another 30 minutes for the staff to finally bring the other pizza out in a BOX to take home and also a box of chicken ... they were reluctant to refund us the 3 meals . In the end they did. Absolute joke. They had 12 tables in the end to serve whilst we were waiting so we have no idea what the mix up was. Definitely won’t be returning and 100% wouldn’t recommend

Great food and atmosphere! Love the marquee, it looks so pretty and the heaters are a bonus! Great to see lots of staff on too. Only gripe was the fact the service was a little slow when waiting for drinks, although the food came quick! One of the staff members seemed a little stressed and we overheard her snap at a customer who was asking where their drinks were. Shame you have to go around the front to smoke, I understand it’s not ideal in the marquee but we feel you should be able to whilst seated in the carpark / grass area. A little annoying the 2 hour timeframe seemed to be monitored closely, in-fact we were asked to move 30 mins before we were due to (staff member apologised when she realised we hadn’t had the full 2 hours). Overall, I think you’ve done an amazing job and the place is looking great! Just worry quality / service could be compromised due to amount of tables and bookings.

Disappointed in our visit.
The Set up is all wrong only one bar staff on a Friday afternoon despite having bookings on nearly every table. Not dog friendly anymore either which was a shame. Drinks took 40 minutes to come. Food was nice when it finally came but all in all the service was shocking. Wouldn’t go again as friends have said the same thing lately. Needs to be better and more customer friendly.

We were seated and ignored for 40 minutes. Not even offered a drink....
The staff didn’t even acknowledge our presence and so we left without a single drink or any food
Very poor

When booking the Griffin for myself and my wife a few days before, I didn’t expect to get a table on the last evening before the lockdown. Our booking was successful and our table was perfectly located, we had our pet dog with us. The waitresses fussed over us truly professionally and our drinks and food soon arrived. The service and food were up to the usual very good standard and will be recommended by us. We hope to use the takeaway facility being undertaken during the second lockdown period, but in the meantime we wish you all good wishes and a great future.

All food came out at different times so none of our party got to eat their meals at the same time.
The menu was limited and the food was nothing special.
We waited 45mins- hour before any food actually came out.

Iv ate here before , under previous management I’m assuming as I recognised none of the current staff and have to say it was much better previously.
Won’t be returning

Enjoyed our evening at the Griffins Head. Great selection of drinks in the bar. The food, Steak Pie, and a good Lasagne. Good wine selection. Service was very good indeed.
A really nice ambience. Look forward to the new menu launching on the 18th march.

They were not aware of our reservation at the desk where you book in and because we had brought a small dog with us as my daughter had locked herself out her house so couldn't put her dog away we were made to go to the front behind the bar and sit at a dirty uncomfortable table where other people were just drinking they didn't even wipe the table for us and it was cold as near the door. I wish we had gone somewhere else that was dog friendly and we could have sat in a nice environment

The menu when we arrived, having booked on line, we were presented with a very long list of food no longer available to order. We had no options really . Our order took over 20 minutes to arrive. We then had to ask if we could have something to drink. The waitress said yes and then left again to get a drinks menu. We then ordered two glasses of water, a Pepsi and a small house rose.
When my sister finished her dinner I went to ask if they could bring our drinks. I was told they were coming from the bar.
Another waitress asked if we were alright so we explained we had not had our drinks yet. I then finished my meal and then the drinks arrived!

Utterly abysmal service.

The table was booked for 9pm and, on arriving at 9:02pm, we were told that the kitchen had stopped serving food.

OpenTable showed that Marco's New York Italian at Kegworth had availability so we went there!
