The food was very good made us feel very welcome and with the dietary requirements the menu was not confusing in anyway.
Food was amazing, we wait nearly an hour but it was hot fresh and tasty 😋
Nice atmosphere. Enjoyable meal with very good acconadation of dietary requirements. Service was excellent
We had a lovely meal znd the waitress was so lovely with our lively 2 year old granddaughter. Our only comment would be we waited approximately 45 mins for our food. Clearly there were staff shortages, understand in this climate. But they worked very hard. We sll enjoyed our food and would definitely go again.
Really easy to make the booking. Staff were attentive and friendly. Food was really appetising; we found the portions to be generous. Nice environment. Would visit again
Service was very slow and they forgot drinks! Drinks were also empty for 40 minutes!
Food very bland for the price not very impressed . Hair in pudding .
Slow service but loving waitress but rushed off her feet .
Having had our work Christmas meals cancelled, on the 4 December we booked a table for 2 for the Festive Menu – Three Courses at a cost of £41.98 at the Griffins Head, Papplewick and received a confirmation email that stated the pub will contact me to get the pre-order.
By the 16 December the pub hadn’t contact me, so I called the pub 3 times but got no answer. We turned-up on the night, to be told we hadn’t pre-booked and there wasn’t anything that could be done now. Unfortunately, I didn’t have access to the confirmation email stating we had booked the Festive Menu, or I would have shown this to the waitress. This also happened to the couple on the next table to us, so I don’t know whether this is an Open Table booking system issue, or a pub issue but it needs investigating.
We decided to order from the normal menu and ordered starters & mains. The starters took 45 minutes to come, and my king prawn starter consisted of 5 (well 4.5) prawns and a pot of dip for £6.79! Very poor value for money, and can’t believe it took 45 minutes to produce.
We than had to wait another 30 minutes for the mains to come, which we found to be ok food. We were going to have a pudding, but just wanted to go home so didn’t order any fearing another lengthy wait.
Service was very good, the food was nice and overall it was a nice experience.
Great service on arrival when the food arrived the presentation was excellent and the taste even better. Cant wait to come back.
Xmas work lunch
Lovely village pub with a good menu at reasonable prices. Food was extremely hot and I prefer to eat off plates not wooden boards but definitely worth a visit.
Booked a table for 7.30 pm to eat with my wife and daughter. Arrived promptly and shown straight to our table. We ordered our starters and mains about 10 minutes after arriving.
My starter was King Prawns in what sounded like a wonderful Thai-influenced creation. When it arrived, it was 6 deep fried prawns with a ramekin of commercial sauce. What a disapppointment. We waited 30 minutes for our starters.
Our mains arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes after we ordered them. Very average "pub grub". I had bangers and mash with a yorkshire pudding. Sausages were seriously overcooked and very dry. Yorkshire pudding sat on top like it didn't belong on the plate.
Would have been nice to have giant Yorkshire pudding with sausages and gravy inside.
The deserts were pleasant, but I don't beleve they were made on the premises. Mine was a slice of a Tiramisu sort of cheesecake and my daughters was a vegan Biscotti cheesecake. Both resembled something that you would buy from the local cash and carry.
Not the best meal that we have had in the area and I doubt that we will return anytime soon.
This place looks like a truck stop, the carpets and walls need a good clean, the decor is dull at best. People seem to rant about the food - but from my experience, no attempt at presentation, no attempt at good food, and certainly not somewhere I would re-visit or recommend.
The steak we mean to be medium-rare, more like left in the pan somehow managed to get medium - well done. Oven chips which were soggy and peas like just out of a microwave.
We visited mid-day and would not expect to see such poor cleaning, tables were sticky and toilets were rusty/horrible. Definitely not recommended.
The next day went to Lakeside and this is an example of great service and great food with clean, polite, and diligent staff, go the extra few miles.
Lovely Sunday dinner would definitely so back! Service very quick
Dad say was best pie he had, had in a pub. Next time we come he said he wants a starter then the crumble for desert.
Friendly staff and well looked after
The food was okay but the service was excellent , which would tempt me to go back again.
It should be noted that we sat in a quiet part of the pub which was quite nicely decorated.
Nice staff great service good was well cooked .... the flat iron steak was very nice ..good portions will come again.
I enjoyed the Sunday roast, but there were a few disappointing factors for me. Firstly, you have to pay an additional charge if you want a Yorkshire pudding of £1.49. You also have to pay if you want cauliflower cheese. Just seems a little bit tight to me, a normal Sunday dinner the plate is overflowing. We didn’t have enough gravy either so had to go back and ask for more. Whilst I enjoyed the food it seemed a bit overpriced for what you get which was disappointing.
We had the Sunday dinner, it was delicious apart from the frozen veg. Would have much preferred fresh.
Sunday lunch Vegetarian meal (nut roast) poor value - would have expected a Yorkshire pud to be included.
Overall - expensive and not all good quality. Meat, York pud and gravy delicious. Roast potatoes salty and overdone, mash tasted like Smash and veg was hard and tasteless.
When charging £13 per lunch, needs to be worth it.
We ordered our food and waited. The food arrived and the garlic bread was burnt to a crisp and inedible. The child's portion was way to big for a nine year old. The fish meal had been left standing and cold and the mushy peas were very dry and cold. My lasagne was cold too. We were very disapointed despite having 25 percent off the bill. No more visits for us.
Good food. Attentive staff. One of our party has hearing difficulties but the staff were helpful by turning the music down.
Used to be a fantastic Sunday lunch now it’s all frozen food. Beef so dry it had curled and pork belly had very little edible meat, obviously it is a fatty meat but serving was almost all fat and had a soggy top. Coupled with being sat in a small room with big parties and the heating on it wasn’t the best experience! No room to walk between tables in the room made it very awkward and made a bad lunch even worse as I had to keep moving a high chair to allow people to squeeze through. Manager was very gracious when we complained however this again was awkward as we were very unhappy but didn’t want to express this too much as a large party in the cosy room hadn’t eaten yet and the whole room was listening. We were given a small discount but that didn’t cover the extras we had to pay for (Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese), safe to say we’ll be going elsewhere in future! Real shame as was a wonderful Sunday lunch pre covid.
Great pub food, big portions, nothing overly fancy, just great pub grub!
Great selection of beers too
Last minute booking. Friendly staff. Bit of a wait for food but was delicious when we got it! Recommend the lasagna!
We decided to eat out at a late lunch in the marquee as we are still covid nervous. However when we arrived we were told it was too windy. The waitress was wonderful. She said we could eat inside in one of their small rooms and they would let us have the room to ourselves. How kind. The food was good, most enjoyable. She even brought us extra custard as she thought we didn't have enough to start with. We were made to feel very welcome and will come again. Thank you
Had a great meal really enjoyed it. Staff very friendly and overall good value
King prawn starter .... 5 not king prawns for 6.75
Burger was very greasy
poor value I am sorry to say..will not be going again
We attended like we have done for months and come every two weeks. The App was down and had to go in and order and seemed to wait ages for food.
The food was only warm and they changed menus and put a lump of tatty and suede stuff under beef and beef was spot on but had loads of fat on it.
Normally food is spot on , but this time was disappointment .
Not sure if change of chef.
Absolutely vile. £6.79 for frozen ‘King Prawns’ which made me gag from the smell service absolutely shocking waiting over an hour for our food, baring in mind there was 6 people in the restaurant customer wise. Would not recommend to anyone, never before had anything like it. Gross!!
Food was adequate but service so slow. Waited over an hour for food and I think we were the first and possibly only ordering that hour.
Lovely food as always. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Always a big smile and nothing too much trouble.
Sometimes the wait for food is a little long but when it comes everyone's food is great. Fresh and home cooked :)
The first time ever I struggled to eat a meal. Had to ask for 2 x side order of onion rings again and they'd obviously been rushed as a bit raw. Batter on fish tasted funny and fish dry. Sorry haven't been for years and used to be excellent but won't be returning
Went here for Sunday lunch and will not be returning.
They only serve Sunday lunch on a Sunday which is fine but the dinner not nice at all.
Chicken was dry and was asked if I wanted a Yorkshire pudding it was a extra cost now when having chicken, which came very well cooked. Two roast potatoes served with what tastes like Aunt Bessie potatoe mixed with swead, which was hidden under the roast chicken. This was served with a very large bowl of carrots with a little broccoli.
Didn’t want a sweet but nobody came to ask anyway.
At 13.99 a dinner I expect a lot better than that and so I will not be returning.
Great food and great service finished off with drinks in the marquee
Great food , but was a little disappointed, as it was my dads birthday and he is gluten free. And the food had been contaminated in the kitchen. But we will still go back
Lovely food, but very busy so service not as good has usual.
Tables were very sticky which lm sure is due to the Covid cleaning regime, but is a little off putting
So poor that after having received only a starter in 2 hours of waiting we cancelled the rest of our order.
Poor service may have been contributed to by circumstances out of your control but there is no excuse for the poor communication throughout the evening and how you handled the situation not just for us but your other customers too.
