Guapo's - Fair Lakes
The Rincon family arrived in Virginia in the late 1970’s. All four children graduated from Fairfax county schools and universities and continued to invest in their community. They believed that their businesses should provide opportunity and pride to demonstrate the dedication to their hometown and the metropolitan area. Now their children continue the same aspirations as their grandparents did when they arrived over 30 years ago.
Server never checked on us. Chicken was overcooked and we couldn't get anyone to help us, ended up not eating the sandwich
Good service - food potions and taste good
Lovely family friendly place
We went to celebrate a Birthday but we also typically go there once a week. Love the service and the food.
Better than average if not unique Mexican food. Service has always been good. OpenTable reservations usually painless, except for one time when something in the system broke down; they didn't have the reservation but the manager set us up anyway. Salsa and chips are good and freshly made. Tortillas are made there, which the kids enjoy watching. Margaritas are decent, if not all that strong. Service has always been friendly and enthusiastic. When your party's dinner is ready they come out with a phalanx of people to deliver it all at once. Menu is not expansive but they have all the usual stuff you might want. Chile Relleno here is good, maybe not Albuquerque style great but way above average. Dinner salads are decent if not huge. Wow I can't write any more. Anyway, we go here regularly, it's basically the only mexican place my wife ever agrees to go to. The main problem, is that it is So Loud. The architecture with the high stone domed ceiling bounces all of the sound back down onto you, there are a lot of families, and then every 10 minutes there is either a birthday song going on or a mariachi band. Plus the fact that it's always packed on weekends, and the experience is never quite as good as it could be to me. But still we keep going back, so it all depends what mood you're in and how sensitive you are.
Food & service are always excellent. However, due to the restaurant building design, it is very, painfully, loud which is unfortunate or I could always give 5 star reviews for Guapos for every visit. I have found that too many restaurants seem to be designed to hold-in & increase sound levels. You can't have a peaceful relaxed meal & talk with friends when everything is so loud. Some restaurants also seem to believe that blasting music just outside the entrance will draw people in. I walk away & cross the street to avoid those restaurants. I also think it telling that this review form asks about noise level & the "worst" choice is "energetic", not "loud" or "painfully loud".
Guapo's has improved greatly since our last visit. The food was very good and our server Raplael G. was a treasure. We plan to return soon.
Both my wife and daughter were served their meals, but they forgot about my order. I almost cancelled and walked-out because I was tired of waiting and hungry.
Our server apologized, which was good of him.
All entrees tasty and prepared correctly. Steak soft and tasty. Salads hearty.
this was a family meal with our two adult children. service was great and our server David remembered up from previous visits and provided great service. i enjoyed my usual the guapos superior - combination fajitas with steak, chicken and camorones brochette. all were excellent. we had a pitcher of the white sangria that was enjoyed by all
Always a delicious, fun time at Guapos! The best Mexican food in this area. We’re from SoCal and Guapos food hits the spot.
We had a great time!
I reserved through open table, and my reservation never made it to them. I love the food, our waiter was very nice, but the service itself is mediocre.
Always a great experience at Guapos. Were seated immediately with reservation on Father's Day with people waiting for tables. Service was great despite how crowded the restaurant was. Staff was attentive from the time we sat through getting the check. Love the fajitas and nogales.
Had a great dinner celebrating father’s day one day early. Food, service, and ambiance was really great. We will be back!
The special Grilled Salmon fajitas were amazing! The drinks were ice cold and delicious. The service was a little slow and the server didn’t take our order correctly.
Beautiful outdoor patio! Service was incredible! Food was pretty average for Mexican and definitely had a ton of leftovers for the next day! Will be back!
The food is very good and the margaritas are so worth the grande size they offer. But the service is always bad or moderate at best. No one is ever happy or excited. We waited so long to place our order as our waiting never seemed to come to our table but came to others around us constantly. People next to us came later than us and was served their meal before we even got to order ours. We were going to order an appetizer but we had waited so long to order that it wasn't worth it. I've had better service at Uncle Julio's and their food is just as good.
A great place - excellent food, great service and a warm friendly atmosphere.
great food, drinks, and atmosphere! thank you for a great dinner, love this place!
We had an extra two people join our group last minute, and I called ahead 10 minutes before our reservation and they accommodated us. Also, we were in a bit of a hurry and they accommodated us on that front as well. Food was great as always, no complaints.
The bus boy kept trying to take one of the plates even when we weren't done and asked him to stop. He then started clearing off the rest of the table and knocked over a drink onto the plate that was half finished and was not able to be eaten further. The waiter rushed us, told us that the guacamole would be prepared tableside and then just brought it out to us and when we asked him about it, he said only the ceviche, which was never even spoken about, was prepared tableside. The waiter also just walked off during the middle of us ordering. I was missing a side of rice and the syrup to water concentrate was off for my drink so my Coke looked like an iced tea. We have been going here for years and it was definitely an off-night for them, as they are usually pretty good. It really sucked because we had friends who were back in the area for the first time in 5 years and we're so excited to come back to this place and the service really ruined our time. Nothing was compensated. I suggest the Shirlington location, which is where I will be going from now on.
Great food, and service. Good for families and friends.
Good food and nice building. The noise level makes visiting during a meal difficult.
Waiter was not attentive to our needs. Took a long time to receive drinks. Mixed drink was received after meal was served. Placed a to go order and order was incorrect which led to more waiting
Good with friends and families .... and good food too
Originally our res was for 4 then I changed it to 7
We were seated within 3 minutes
Service was excellent
All meals came out hot and were flavorful
Great place for families and special occasions
We had out-of-town guests and took them to our neighborhood Guapo’s for dinner. We had a very fun time and the food was delicious. The waiter and the servers were very attentive.
Guapo's has the best Mexican food in Northern Virginia - and this location is our favorite. We live 30 minutes away, but still make the trip when we can to come here. As time has gone on, the restaurant continues set the standard in the area. Fajitas are outstanding - quality of steak and chicken is second to none. Tortillas are made fresh right where guests can see them. Food comes out in a timely manner, and is fairly priced.
We have been regulars here for the past several years. I consider Guapo's Fair Lakes to be the gold standard. The food and service are consistently fantastic. Their staff is an excellent example of teamwork, unparalleled by most other restaurants. We eat out a lot, and I have yet to dine in another restaurant that compares to Guapo's in terms of customer service. The highlight of my weekly lunches are their fantastic margaritas - made from fresh ingredients, no mixes here. We've never had a bad experience here. They are simply the best!
The server was excellent, though several of the items we ordered ran out or were sold out, so several changes were made. We were disappointed that Brunch wasn't available.
we usually order the steak fajita and most of the time it is good, but this time the steak was chewy; made it difficult to bite into tortilla. had to cut up steak and eat it with fork & knife. mentioned it to server and he was surprised.
Food is getting better every time we go. We got the shrimp from the ceviche menu and it was very tasty.
The food was ok, but the service was lacking. No attention from Waiter. Had to ask 3 times for chips, and they were not busy.
The restaurant wasn't full but we were very rushed. The waiter came by every 3 minutes moving us along. Not a comfortable experience. Wouldn't recommend.
GUAPOS IS A WONDERFUL RESTAURANT THAT PROVIDED PROMPT SERVICE AND FANTASTIC FOOD.
My daughter specifically requested Guapo's for her 17th Birthday. Great food and treatment as usual.
Please note - we were informed that we would need to wait for an indoor table because Guapo’s *does not take reservations on weekends* - even though they accepted our reservation through OpenTable.
We love Guapo's. Normally, we go to the one in Shirlington but tried this one instead. The salad portions are significantly smaller here than Shirlington. If I'm paying $15-17 for a salad, it needs to be substantial. I was still hungry when I left... And that is unusual for Guapo's.
It can get very loud inside, that wasn’t nice but everything else was great
