Gul and Sepoy serves Regional Indian food inspired by the Royal courts of India, paired with the more relaxed, rural cooking of fishing villages located along the south-west coastline.
Sitting over two floors, downstairs guests are greeted by an oak-paneled bar and a relaxed dining area, whilst upstairs, marble feasting tables provide a touch of luxury and a nod to north India's ancient Royal palaces.
Welcome to Gul & Sepoy. We look forward to serving you soon.
Tue - Sat: 12:00pm - 2:45pm and 5:30pm - 10.30pm
Having made a booking well in advance, I arrived to find it closed. No email, nothing on their website. Just a pathetic letter on the window to go to their other restaurants.
No thank you.
After investigation my booking was made before they closed, this is not how to operate for further business.
restaurant is closed - we were not notified before our reservation
I booked online and reserved a table with clients. The restaurant now closed down and they failed to contact me before I arrived outside the restaurant. That is appalling as I was embarrassed when I arrived with my clients. I know they are/were owned by Gunpowder. Why didn't the reservation system pick this up? What is OpenTable's policy on such issues. I feel that was badly let down and that I'm owed an apology from Gunpowder's owners? John
The restaurant accepted the reservation but when we arrived it was closed. It was a business lunch which made the situation quite tricky.
restaurant was closed! Still hard to understand why the booking was accepted in the first place...
Second time dining here and loved it. Food is top notch and a brilliant wine list. It was quite slow when we were there so the ambiance was lacking a little, but would highly recommend.
Interesting restaurant! Ambiance ok felt a little tired (the decor not me!) however food was brilliant nicely served by an efficient young lady!! Thought it would be a lot busier at Lunch Time? being a bit quieter we were served veery quickly... and ejoyed what we had.
Gul & Sepoy is a fun, tasty restaurant that offers an adventurous menu at a good prices. You will likely need to Google at least one word per dish: dahi-ke, achari, masoor dal khichdi, pachadi, kalimirich, kabargah - I could not search fast enough. But ended up making four good, albeit semi-blind choices. My favourite dish was yam and paneer kofta chaat, savoury, of pleasing texture, laced with just enough spice and acidity to provide a dynamic contrast. But everything was worth tasting, and left us wanting more: whole roasted peppers, unctuous and tender beef onglet, and teensy bites of jewel coloured chicken kebab. Only dessert, orange and saffron polenta cake with cardamom rose cream, was slightly dry as compared to the novelty and attention to detail of the savoury dishes. Still, absolutely worth trying for a fun and flavourful twist on Indian flavours.
very different spin on food but saying I will be back says a lot about my experience
Food was excellent price of drinks was a bit toppy
Really tasty food and cracking service. Will be back.
The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, the food is delicious and the small plates concept is perfect for groups. They have tasty vegetarian options and the best desert ever (the coconut one)! Will definitely come back.
Fantastic as always , interesting and exciting food combinations
Very very average place, the food had limited taster and focus was more on presentation! Not to be visited again!
Very tasty and surprisingly filling. We didn't realise that ordering rice was an option as it wasn't on the menu but didn't have to wait long for it to be served.
The deserts were not to the standard of the savory dishes. Overall great innovative food in a nice environment
Food sensations from the same outfit that brought us Gunpowder round the corner. Nicer seating arrangements and a good choice of wines, cocktails and beers. Oh the food... really very delicious small plates. Not small on flavour. A mix of southern Indian fish dishes, like tandoori sea bream and fabulous vegetable dishes such as charred cauliflower and aloo. We added a few amuse bouches and a wee chicken kebab dish and I was simply delighted by the spiced rabbit leg dish. Great service from attentive and knowledgeable staff. We will be back.
A truly delicious dinner at Gul & Sepoy, catching up with an old friend. Lovely little restaurant with great service and quite a cosy atmosphere. Each sharing dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavour. We'll definitely be back again soon.
Interesting concept. The food was nicely presented but everything was generally under spiced and lacked flavour
This is such a great modern Indian restaurant. The food is delicious; contemporary, super tasty and perfectly balanced. Excellent vegetarian options, and stylish interior design. One of the many reasons to go is the incredibly lovely staff.. always helpful, charming and welcoming. They are a credit to the place!
Good food overall but not blown away. There are other places I'd go in London... Kricket...for Indian food
The food is good, quite spicy so be aware, the only problem is that you feel a bit rushed.
We were thoroughly underwhelmed by our experience at Gul & Sepoy. We had heard a lot about it and we very excited to try it. They do not do starters and food comes as it is ready which we were fine with. The first dish to come was potatoes and cauliflower which we found strange eating by itself even though it did have a lovely flavour. The next to come was a lamb ribs which were the highlight of the meal and recommended by our waitress. The meat was succulent and well spiced however a little fatty. The next dish we had was the chicken kebab which was tasteless and small. The final dish to arrive was the tandoori fish, although the fish was well marinated, it was not cooked correctly. The fish was pretty much mush. Although there were some lovely flavours, I would say the food is very overpriced for the quality.
Lovely evening with attentive service and delicious, beautiful food! Particularly Stand out were the prawns and the cauliflower! Only slight negative was we were advised to order 5-6 plates between 2, but left a little hungry after 7 (will return and order the whole menu and leave v happy)
Not many choices. Duck was not well done. Too loud music. Expensive for nothing.
Excellent menu, helpful suggestions by lively stuart
Superb food, doesn't try to re-invent the wheel but adds a twist on traditional flavours and mixes in some more unusual proteins.
My only criticism would be that the tables need to be a little larger for all those small plates.
Incredibly tasty food, cocktails were delicious and waitress was pleasant and helpful. High recommend
The food at Gul & Sepoy was the highlight. Wonderful tapas style with great flavours and a twist on the tradiotnal Indian dishes. Go now before it becomes too well known!! Recommend.
Great food and service at Gul & Sepoy - everything was really tasty, but the Lamb Ribs deserve a special mention!
Modern indian food, amazing quality and good wine. Friendly service.
I really enjoyed gunpowder, so was excited to try this. There were some very tasty things, with interesting use of pickles in particular, but ultimately too many dishes were just ok. The three bird dish was a big disappointment, and ultimately I think there are better ways to spend your money on this kind of thing in London. Like gunpowder...
Friendly service and tasty food! A blend of Indian tapas.
Nice enough place but I felt a few of the dishes we ordered were over priced and actually not nice.
2 prawns for £14 and covered in sauce creates an absolute mess when trying to shell them.
The pickled venison dish was not enjoyable at all.
The paneer chat, chicken and lamb kebabs were good.
The service was good and venue is nice enough, avoid upstairs it's too cramped.
It was a good experience overall but nothing spectacular. I have been to Gunpowder before and enjoyed it more.
The food was absolutely delicious, the flavours were amazing and beautifully presented; the service was superb, our waiter was charming and very attentive. The only downside which would stop us from coming back again was the atmosphere, unfortunately we were sitting upstairs and the room felt cold and unwelcoming, it was very echoey and the acoustics were appalling, the room just felt unfinished.
Wonderful food and service!
We had an excellent meal at Gun & Sepoy, the combinations of flavours and ingredients were outstanding. The service was also excellent.
An excellent sister restaurant to the fabulous Gunpowder, and only a block away. This group keeps up the quality with a fresh selection of inspired Indian dishes. Try the signature cocktails!
Awesome chicken skewers, but a little on the expensive side.
