An exotic mix of Indian in a tapas style, with unusual combinations of flavours and textures. A great location near Tower Bridge and the river. Brunch was great there, we had a 10 year old in our party and they were very accommodating. I can recommend them.
Very disappointing service throughout the evening, food was okay.
Definitely high energy if you like that. Food was amazing. For me it was too noisy and seating was too close together. Excellent value.
Really lovely food, very tasty!
Very nice, unusual and tucked away. Beautiful location around restaurant. Really nice place.
The lamb chops were very tasty but too expensive as £15.00 for two.
They were not the same size either.
Tables for two were two close together (i'm guessing because the are busy and what to get as many sittings as possible)
Rum pudding was very good
Really incredible food- thank you!
Great food. Every dish was superb. The restaurant was very busy, but the service coped well. Good value in my opinion.
The tables are too close to each other. The tables are too small if you order more than 3 dishes and drinks. The waiting staff took their time in coming to take the order. However, once the order was placed the food arrived at lightening speed!! We had no time to even have our drinks before all the food arrived!
The food was delicious and is of good value!
I thought that the tables for 2 are far too close
The food we thought was disappointing after all we had heard
A mixed bag, one of our party couldn't make it so we were moved from a very good spot to a smaller table staring at a building so zero atmosphere. Food came so quickly it was cafe style, table churn is clearly the imperative. Whilst the food was good, it was overpriced considering the whole experience which was souless. Won't be returning.
Not all that
The food at Gunpowder did not disappoint after a long time waiting to go and try it! We were running late but easily accommodated for when we arrived, given valuable advice about the food and the service was very prompt. Everything tasted delicious and we fully intend to return to try the rest of the menu. It was the perfect spot for my girlfriend's birthday.
Ok but nothing to write home about. Go to the Shoreditch restaurant for the real deal.
New take on Indian cuisine. Creative dishes which are definitely NOT chicken tikka massala. Everything tended to be a bit sweet (even the cocktails: the gimlet added honey). This seems to suit the tastes of the young crowd of millennials. But certainly worth a try.
A few dishes were ok. The lollipop chicken had hardly any chicken. The masala egg was just half slices of egg with some masala on top.
The main issue was the service. Very poor waitor and we were given our bill without asking because we had exceeded the time on the table. A simple ‘I’m sorry, but we need the table back. Would you like to have a drink in our bar’ would have done the trick. So we paid and went for a drink elsewhere. Suffice to say, I will not be going back.
Great food, delicious, fresh and amazing presentation. Great value for money.
There weren’t enough waiters. I had to wait for more than 5 mins to be seated/ acknowledged. I ended up going to the bar to ask to be seated and was told to return to the door.
The food was hit and miss - the marketplace eggs tasted like they had small rocks in them. I didn’t finish them. The aloo chaat was ok. The saag and rice v good.
Service really poor. The mood was ‘unwelcome guest’.
Great food and service.
The only downside was that we ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate my birthday (£65), but the restaurant does not stock champagne glasses, so we had to drink the champagne from large wine glasses. This was a real let down and really spoilt the experience.
If I had known, I would have brought my own glasses.
It doesn’t require much effort to order champagne glasses online. The restaurant has been open a couple of months at least. Best not to offer champagne until you have the correct glasses to serve it in.
Really tasty food and lovely place, but not somewhere you want to go for a long leisurely meal. The food comes quickly and all at once so you can be out in under an hour! The lamb chops are a must.
It pains me to say so as I am a huge fan of the original location but this completely misses the mark. The food arrives so quickly it gives away the obvious fact it's been prepared prior, giving the feeling of school cafeteria. dishes which arrive perfect temperature at the main location (aloo chaat) here arrived point blank cold. The ambiance is completely lacking. this could possibly be bc we were sat upstairs but downstairs didnt blow my mind either. The wait staff did not give us two thoughts, and wanted only to churn our table over as quickly as possible. The location is at the ground floor of a soulless new build, and that is pretty much the perfect location for this sadly soulless experience. won't be returning.
We thought the pork ribs were too sweet and they destroyed the rest of the dishes. We would order differently if we went back
Good food and good service. Interesting options on the menu that are a bit different but work really well.
Venue can be a little cramped and the deposit for group booking is very steep.
All in all a good meal.
What a delicious experience. Everything we ate, we really enjoyed. We will easily recommend this to others.
I have dined in London for more than 35 years. This restaurant provided exciting food in an excellent environment. Reasonably priced , great location and good for brunch with one of my daughters who now lives in London. Sunday 11 am was not too busy and loved it - if it was really busy might be quite noisy - usual modern industrial chic environment (i.e no softy furnishings to absorb noise). Baby Boomers who will not admit hearing problems beware.
We felt very disappointed about the food, ambiance and general care from the staff. This was not what I had expected.
The food is really good but they ran out of a couple of dishes and the service can improve.
Great tasting food, good service.
Value I gave a 3/5 because of a small portions.
The food is absolutely delicious, only small thing is that this location lacks a bit of the ambiance of the sister restaurants in East London.
Went here on a recommendation from a friend who had been to the Spitalfields branch so maybe he had a different experience. We arrived at the appointed time (6.30 pm) and despite there being lots of spare tables we were plonked in between 2 other occupied tables which meant we were all competing for elbow room. Good attentive service. Food: totally over rated. Chicken was well over cooked and my guess not that day as it was so dried out. Crab: tasteless. No bread choices at all only plain rice. Tayyabs was on my mind the whole time we were there!!
Service was v. poor - wrong orders arrived twice, had to send back a cold starter. Very pushy with ordering and felt like we were being rushed to make order. At £80 a head including Wine I feel like there are much better value for money options out there. Feels like all charm of the Shoreditch set-up has been lost.
Really good food and ambiance was really .
I had great time at the restaurant.
A bit overhyped to be honest.
The food was really tasty! We loved every dish we tried and would definitely return.
Terrible service. Lacked atmosphere. Only just above average food.
We went with 4 people and had a nice booth. The food came out really fast and were all very delicious. The lamb chops were by far the best but reflected in the price! The food was overall really really good but can do with a little less salt. Definitely recommend.
I have never eaten such a great spicy food.
I hope go back soon.
I was a bit disappointed as I had been meaning to visit for awhile due to hearing good things, it was average and I will not be running back anytime soon.
The food was really great and unusual choices, we had good recommendations from our waiter. Possibly could have had less dishes and were a little over sold on the amount we needed. Also, 1hr 15min is not enough for a dinner for two people to catch up! We were given 2hr 30min but asked to move even though there were empty tabes around, we would have stayed for one more, but not after being asked to move! Nice place, would recommend, but don't expect to stay for too long!
Nice food, friendly service, a bit pricey for what it is but nice enough all the same
