We were seated promptly, and took our Drinks order, however seemed a little confused if we had ordered our meal - when we hadnt seen a a menu, that was rectified, and the only other little niggle was, the table was without napkins and we had to request some.
We went on a Tuesday so was quiet the food was very good and the service was excellent with good attention to our needs and helpful.
excellent food friendly attentive staff highly recommended
The GHURKA 1816 has been open two years a well kept secret as we live quite near unaware. A very warm welcome on our Anni celebration occasion, excellent service and cuisine topped off with staff singing their good wishes. Nice experience.
Wonderful food, excellent service. A little bit on the expensive side this visit the bill was £135.00 for 4 of us but did include 2x bottles of wine. The duck starter is excellent and friends thought the lamb was cooked perfectly. Plenty of parking available. We would highly recommend.
Absolutely fantastic meal. Service was friendly and the food delicious. Can’t wait to return soon!
Another excellent night at the Gurkha food & the staff 5 stars
Very good service and food. Friendly owner. We will happily return when the occasion arises.
Excellent food, lovely staff, great beer
I would highly recommended this place
Fantastic food with plenty of variety and excellent service!
Excellent, piping hot and delicious food, great service and attention to detail and friendly and helpful staff.
Outstanding food with fantastic service. I am looking forward to my next visit and would highly recommend this restaurant for those who appreciate good quality food.
Fab place. Going again. Great food. We went to check out the good ratings and it’s true.
A first time visit to gurka , a great range of dishes which we all liked and not to pricy , we will be visiting again
Food was great, unfortunately the service was very poor. An hour wait for a main course. The whole experience from arriving to paying the bill and leaving was 2hours even though we only had one course. Would not go back again.
I have been to Gurhka 1816 on numerous occasions, my favourite restaurant in Wednesbury. It is a hidden gem that i would recommend to anyone for a lovely evening, very tasty food and good service.
On the dear side but worth it. Food and service outstanding
Food was fantastic very tasty went for the Nepalese options mo-no dumpling starter & lamb curry main which were delicious the keema nan was the best I’ve ever had. Overall great food friendly staff 5 stars
Superb menu at reasonable prices first visit but definitely not the last
Great food from interesting menu, with friendly and professional service.
Had never tried Nepalese but really enjoyed it. Excellent service and good value for money
Excellent food and great very attentive service. We will be back!
We decided to vist Ghurka 1816 as we normally dine out Thursday's and wanted to find out more about Nepalese food and this had been a place that we had frequented many year ago when it had been a steak house in the 90's !
We booked to eat at 6.30pm and there was only one other couple when we arrived, the waiter was new and had only started three days prior, which wasnt the best of starts as he did not know what wines we could order by the glass.
After that shaky beginning and the introduction of one of the owners dresseds splendidly in traditional Nepalese attire, we were treated like royalty and the feast that was served was exquisite.
I began with a prawn on puri, succulent prawns in a a soft bread wrap, which was divine, followed by a raspberry sorbet to clear the pallet , therafter I dived into the Lamb main which was so tender it melted in your mouth, marinated in traditional Nepalese herbs and spices, with Chipatti and Garlic Rice, delicious.
There was unfortunately no room for a desert, but the attention to detail and the warm welcome along with some delicious fayre, will definately mean a further Thursday visit will soon be on the cards !
The food was excellent, as was the service - mostly. One of our party’s rice didn’t arrive either the meal, but when I asked about it, there was no apology from the young waitress. We felt that she needed a little more training. Also the lights were very bright- softer lighting would create a cosier atmosphere.
However, the food was absolutely top quality and we would definitely go again.
Fantastic authentic Nepalese and Indian food; excellent options for vegetarians and vegans. Besides amazing food the staff here are so welcoming and friendly. Brilliant service guaranteed.
Menu here is really different and the food is really stunning. You can also bring friends along who don't like to experience spicy food as they do steaks and burgers too etc.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Be prepared for quite a wait for your food but I daresay this is because it is all freshly made and it is really worth the wait. I have been twice and will definitely be returning.
We were very impressed with this restaurant. The food and service were excellent. We will definitely return. Highly recommended x
Most of the food was good. Price was slightly high for overall experience..expected better ambience to themed but it was not. Seating was ok and quite cold. If they could make the restaurant more cosy it will be great.
Food was absolute top quality and service was brilliant. We will be definitely going back and often too.
Restaurant was spotlessly clean ,service and food outstanding, the owner should be very proud of this restaurant will definately be going back .
Great food and friendly efficient unobtrusive service great menu which includes traditional British, Nepalese and Indian dishes I would recommend it for whatever the occasion
Arranged a meal here with our friends. The food was delicious and we all enjoyed our choices. Never had Nepalese so my friend and I chose this and it was very tasty. The meal for four cost £100 and we all had a starter and main and a small amount of alcohol. Not very cheap but not bad. The only very slight negative was the service, although attentive, was slow and we waited a while for the main. We did receive free dishes in between which might have been meant to negate the wait. There were a couple of larger parties in so this could explain the delay. We would certainly go again. The food was fresh and tasty.
Great food and the lady who served us whilst we was there was very polite and helpful.
Fantastic service, but spoilt a little by the food being a little on the spicy side.
Would have been good if there were more choices with a little less heat.
Amazing food, fab staff...... highly recommended. Cocktails were excellent value for money. Our son tasted new foods and loved it.
We dined early at around 1800 hrs I would recommend the Gurkha without hesitation for those who like tasty curries with the option of how hot you want it although we all ate various spicy food there was an extensive British menu as well. We were made to feel very welcome by friendly unobtrusive staff . Enjoyed the dining experience and will become a regular there
we had a large group on a Monday night so we it was quiet apart from our group, the food was great we had poppadum's and dip to start with, then a pre started of veg parkora, then the starter, then a sorbet and then the main course, there was no room left for puddings. lots of wine and beer at reasonable prices-wine from £12 a bottle. service was excellent, private car park around the back - so overall a good night out.
The service was phenomenal. Friendly, attentive staff. Wonderful authentic food with a great range of choice. Extremely good value for money.
Could not fault this place at all and we are already planning a second visit.
A definite recommendation.
1st time visit will definitely visit again. Food and staff were excellent and explained all the dishes well
Food was exceptional. Staff helpful, attentive and friendly. There was five of us that dined here and we were all in agreement, we enjoyed our first meal at Gurkha 1816 immensely.
