Never had a bad meal in here. The food is delicious!
Really enjoyed the food, very tasty and fresh. Side dishes lacked umph in favouring. Aloo broccoli was a tad watery. The lamb (on the hoy plate) was divine as was the chicken. Service very good attentive but not invasive. Great atmosphere.
Was a little pricey. But otherwise very good
Have already recommended to colleagues
Fantastic food, attentive service, good atmosphere, good Nepalese beer!
Everything was great. Really lovely food and service
A lovely restaurant in Balham. Lovely varied food and different enough if you want something other than what you would get in a regular Indian restaurant. Nepal has some very tasty dishes that suit all palates.
The restaurant was very patient with the children. Good service.
The food was good. Easy to get to, not noisy. Quick service too
GREAT food and was served quick, waited a while to pay the bill, but the large group of people we were sitting next to were extremely noisy, so much so I couldn't hear a word my partner was saying most of the time and it kind of spoilt our evening, but all in all it's a great place.
just wish people would have a little respect for other diners who don't want to hear other people shouting over each other to be heard.
Great restaurant and lovely food as always. Never had something I didn’t like
Couldn’t rate this place more highly. My girlfriend and I are going to Nepal later this month, so we decided to get a taste of the cuisine before travelling. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely DELICIOUS. We started with the momos, served with an addictive spicy sauce (we cleaned the plate), and the fried courgette, sliced and covered in kind of like a tempura batter, but softer and thicker, also a winner. For main dishes we chose a creamy-yet-punchy Rana Chicken, and a portion of richly flavoured Kathmandu Pork. On the side, some delicately spiced broccoli and potatoes, fluffy white rice and some seriously good garlicky bread. All washed down with a couple of Nepalese beers. Staff were friendly and attentive, prices are reasonable, and the setting is homely and comfortable. Go there, you won’t regret it. We’ll be coming back for sure.
A most enjoyable evening. The restaurant was very busy but people spoke quietly and were considerate. The food was good and beautifully presented. White starched cloths and napkins give a sense of caring management with a flair for what works. Waiters were careful when taking orders with no sense of impatience when people were slow about choices. All in all an excellent experience.
Delicious food and lovely staff - would highly recommend!
The food here is lovely and the staff are very friendly. Nice place to catch up for a quiet meal with friends.
There are not many Nepali restaurants about. This one has really fabulous food and unintrusive service which make it a really good place to go with friends for a delicious meal and a good long chat.
Disappointing. Husband's chicken was very dry and the service very rushed. Would not go back. Not good value for money far better places to go.
The food was really delicious, and whilst service was initially very good we were not offered dessert menus or coffee, nor drinks top ups at any point, so left feeling a bit ignored. But overall we would definitely go back as the food was amazing.
Great Restaurant and lovely alternative to the same old Indian menus.
Friendly, efficient service with delicious food.
We always come here for an authentic Nepalese meal and anyone we introduce to this restaurant always comes back!
Great curry, very busy on a Friday night so good atmosphere but only downside is all the hard surfaces meant it is very noisy, maybe could do with finding a way to soften the acoustics!
Booked here for a quiet birthday dinner for my partner and I. Really relaxed and quality meal and service. Have already recommended it to a friend
Food very good & restaurant attractive. Waiting staff pleasant and helpful. However management rigid about temperature levels. Either windows open or air conditioning on. As a result the restaurant is normally cold. Also requested a particular table but sent to one for 2 people even though restaurant empty. Need more flexibility all round.
Went with a couple of friends on a Friday evening. Very good food and a decent wine list. Good value. Not too noisy and very good service. Will definitely go back. My friends agree.
Even the spiciest dish is mild, so don’t go expecting a hot one. But it’s a good place to eat and have a drink. Recommended.
The food and service was great as usual.
This was our first time to the restaurant but we will definitely be back. Delicious food and very good service.
This is the 2nd time me and my partner visited this restaurant. The staff are friendly and inviting and the food is amazing! Same as the first time, so not a fluke. Recommend this place for any occasion!
First time at The Gurkhas Diner - food delicious, staff very polite and attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be back!
Amazing food, the staff are lovely and attentive without being over the top. It was boiling outside but the restaurant was perfectly cool so we could really enjoy the meal. It’s my favourite restaurant and a constant go to, both to eat in and take away.
Excellent food as always, we had a table at the front which was fairly quiet, excellent service and friendly staff, as always, never felt rushed.
Delicious food and fantastic service. Would recommend to anyone.
Amazing food, my partner and I come here every weekend without disappointment! We have tried a few different dishes now and all were full of flavour and so so tasty! The house white wine and the Gurkha beer is fab and very good value, Can’t wait to go back again! Love this restaurant
If you have ANY allergies then I suggest you avoid. They are afraid to commit to the absence of wheat, dairy, gluten in any food and are unwilling to check even pre-bought ingredients.
As a result we left.
Dear Gurkhas diner, it is 2018 and many people have allergies. Aside from negligible cross-contamination (which ofc you must advise on) you should know what is in the food you serve.
The food is great! service is very attentive. Food tastes light and delicious :)
A lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere love the white tablecloths and place settings great wine list particularly delicious is New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc also great local beers. Food is also delicious with lots of choice lamb knuckle very tasty.
Fantastic find! Amazing food.... highly recommend the lamb knuckle. Service was great, waiter was happy to recommend transitional dishes we should try. Would definitely go back and would recommend to friends!
The place was not busy for a Friday night but we ate in a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was very tasty but unfortunately the meat dishes were a bit chewy.
We were given a friendly welcome, as always. Interesting menu with a wide range of Nepalese dishes. Enjoyed everything we tried, with highlights being the courgette starter, grilled salmon main and vegetable sides. Will return!
Always great food. Can be a little slow when it’s really busy but that’s not an issue. Service is friendly. Acoustics aren’t great, so can be difficult to hear across table when it’s busy
This was our first time to a Nepalese restaurant and certainly will not be the last.
The service was not quick but we knew that they would be very busy. The waitress was very jolly and helpful, giving advice about menu combinations. She even advised us when to stop ordering too much - it was perfect.
Very tasty, spicy and flavoursome - but different!
We booked Gurkha's Dinner for NYE - I'd not eaten here before although my husband and friends had. It was excellent, food was delish, service was great. In our group of friends eating that night, one was a vegan and one a veggie - there were plenty of options and they loved it. We'll be back - a total neighbourhood gem.
