Translating as 'Have you had dinner?' in Italian, Hai Cenato serves up lunch and dinner seven days a week. Inspired by New York-Italian cuisine, the menu spans small plates, pasta & risotto, grills and sourdough pizzas.
Upstairs, cocktail bar The Drunken Oyster serves classic Italian cocktails with a twist and sparkling 'taptails'.
Sunday: 12:00 – 14:30 and 17:30 – 22:00
Service was appalling ...no fault of the staff...they were pleasant ...just not enough of them...and main courses so over salted they were only just edible.....would never go back or recommend ....waiting 25 mins for two drinks does seem excessive
Great food and service. Mixed drinks were just okay.
Great service, food and ambience as usual. Location is perfect for business meetings, and the service helps with that also
I am sad to say the service was amongst the worse ever encountered amongst my dining experiences booked with open table.
I had booked 4 days ago and when waiting for a table- 10 mins before someone gave me the time of day and then tried to give me a really poor located table when a couple before me ( no booking) immediately got a great table... how poor is this
I was really surprised by both the wait for the pizza- nearly 30 mins and 3 attempts to ask where is our pizza - with a carefree dont give a crap attitude.
The bill then came without our espresso- another wait of 10 mins and coffee cold.
My friend from USA was appalled by the service.
Why we paid- god only knows.
Do not go at all
I will be saying to my friends - and I am italian- there are better places than this crap.
The food was good as usual but the service was awful. The staff was not competent enough to be serving all the outside tables. We had to wait 20 minutes for them to take our drink order and we had further delays later in getting our cheque even though they knew that we had to leave quickly to make the theatre.
A good pre-theatre venue, though allow time as quite slow
This was my fifth time at HC. On previous occasions, I have visited with my partner and on a couple of occasions for a catch up with a close friend. Overall, I've been very happy with the food - pizzas and meat / fish dishes - and service. I love sitting by the kitchen watching the chefs in action. Sadly, Monday was a complete let down. We recommended HC to a couple of friends and were disappointed with almost everything. On arrival we were offered a table outside which I gratefully accepted as it was a lovely evening. For a start putting cushions on the back of the outside chairs is a complete waste of time as they simply slip down the back onto the floor. We decided on pizzas all round as I had been talking about just how good they were. All four were disappointing - cold and rubbery. The toppings, though, were obviously good ingredients. The service was abysmal. We waited ages to put in our order and it was again a long wait for our cold pizzas. We ordered a second bottle of Prosecco which took 1/2 to arrive. We decided to skip deserts as we were running out of time. We all ordered cappuccinos and had to chase twice and in the end we went inside to chase. I want to come again but at the moment, I'm feeling a little let down.
We had a lovely family lunch at Hai Cenato. The food was very fresh and tasty, and arrived quickly. Service was excellent - the team were genuinely friendly and helpful and made our meal even more enjoyable. Pretty good value for the quality/experience too. Would definitely go back.
diverse menu, although I thought that there were too many different flavours on a pizza, I would have to try them all of course to be objective! it was nice to see the kitchen and the chefs looked intense as if they cared about what they were doing. The staff had the right amount of attention and one of them went out of their way to find a table outside and then found us a table inside when it got cold. i would return to try some non-pizza dishes
Food was average and over priced. There are more options in this area to eat elsewhere
Ok but not great. ! Pizza very doughy but starters were far better. .Cocktails ok but wouldn’t go out of my way to go again
Excellent location for pre theatre dining. Good space with comfortable outdoor seating as well as plenty of space indoors. Interesting and good food. Good Aperol Spritz and nice pinot grigio from alto adige by glass
Great food. Friendly service, though it could have been a bit speedier. Overall a very good experience.
Nice venue. Both pizza's came out with parts which were a bit burnt. Looked around and I could see others that were the same, so not sure if that's their thing but would prefer that not to be the case.
A lovely restaurant. We were warmly welcomed by the staff who were all very friendly and helpful. The cocktails were absolutely delicious and the menu great (even for a very fussy vegetarian!) Even had a little birthday song from our waiter! Good value and we didn’t feel rushed at all. Just right before heading to the Victoria Palace Theatre, perfect location.
Good service, good ambiance, good food!! I will definitely go again.
Food was good but service could have been a bit more attentive. It wasn’t bad, but could have been just that little bit more responsive.
We had a lovely post-theatre meal. We did a bit of a tapas and the staff were great and very accommodating. Lovely food -- especially the burrata! Yum!!!
Absolutely fine but expected something more given the Jason Atherton connection
A restaurant is often measured by how they manage mistakes, and Hai Cenato, just around the corner from the Victoria Palace, fell down badly in managing a waiter/kitchen staff timing fail. They each blamed the other, with studied speeches from both waiter and management about how long it takes a restaurant kitchen to grill a piece of beef (really?), suggesting this wasn't the first time.
With pizza and a grilled steak as main courses, and a charcuterrie platter as the appetizer, our table waited a full hour and ten minutes from our table seating to the delivery of main courses (this despite being literally the first customers in the restaurant and orders into the kitchen 17:30). Sadly, we appeared to be one of at least four tables in similarly dire timing cirumstances; within our section of the restaurant we saw two tables get up and leave, and at least two others anxiously wolfing down food delivered surprisingly late. For a quick pre-theatre dinner (about which the restaurant was twice alerted), the timing was simply a disaster. After our third entreaty about the delivery of our meal, the waiter finally ran away and hid.
Fair dues to the duty manager for comping the steak, a nice gesture unfortunately made too late in the process to redeem the experience. Make no mistake, the food is very good, but the disorganization was palpable. And the ultimate resolution, though fair, felt a bit more begrudging than instinctive. If you are trying to make the Hamilton performance (as 80% of those dining at this hour and place likely would be), consider eating AFTER, rather than before the performance; that choice will do your blood pressure a world of good here.
I was so disappointed! I had such great expectations and the entire experience was awful!
Firstly, any restaurant that brings out the main course while you are still eating your starters should be ashamed - that’s just a cardinal sin for me! The food was at best average. I could get a better pizza at a fraction of the price from Rosso Pomodoro and my friend had fish and was pulling bones from every mouthful! Top or off, an average meal of starters and mains for two with a carafe of wine shared between us cost £120!
It really soured the entire evening!
The staff are very helpful, however we felt a bit rushed until it was time to ask for the bill. At that point they all disappeared. The food is good, pizza and pasta options are limited. Recommended if you prefer a meat for your main dish but i havent tried it.
The food was lovely, particularly the seabags crudo starter, however the service was a bit slow - had to wait half an hour for drinks that we had ordered to arrive. Had to ask for tap water 3 times before it came.
Great strip loin steaks cooked and seasoned to perfection . Enjoy !!!
We enjoyed the set lunch-time menu. The asparagus risotto was particularly tasty but I found the ragu a little too rich for my taste. Good service.
Very unfriendly staff - I was virtually ignored throughout my time there. Pizza was wet and soggy.
Excellent produce, well prepared, efficiently served. Hard to fault
The atmosphere is good, the bar decor looks nice and the staff are friendly. It took a while for our drinks order to be taken and the food was very average for the price. I’d go back for drinks but not food
Great service great food .........................……...................................................
Dreadful food. Empty restaurant. Shame.
a lively spot with tasty food and exceptional service.pink lady apple salad.english burrata.super pizza.and exceptional gnocchi all washed down with a well priced caparzo rosso di montalcino.the burrata wasnt good looking and the asparagus portion was small but the taste was on point.really nice waiter offered sensible advice.
I had lunch with 2 friends and found the food and service disappointing. I ordered the papardelle which wasn’t cooked long enough so I send it back to the kitchen. The portion size was small although the ragu was abundant but honestly I found it a bit basic. Taste wasn’t amazing.
We ordered the arancini as a starter to share but they brought out the mains and then asked if we still wanted the starter. So table aervice not great. The best thing of the lunch was the raspberry sorbet. Very nice!!
Overall I wouldn’t go back ....
Great brunch. Food was lovely and the staff were all amazing with our toddler (who ate for free!)
The food was average at best. The starters much better than the pizza
Had a good meal, well served and very timely, but portions were on the lean side and wine for a 500 ml carafe was quite pricey and Brioche desert was disappointing.
We would go again.
Everything was fresh & flavorful and the service was impeccable! Hai Cenato was the perfect pre-Hamilton show choice 👌🏼😋
Jason Atherton most casual restaurant and we choose the fish and it was very good.
There was a bit of a language problem with a couple of the staff but the manger looked after us very.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area
I had forgotten, having visited Hai Cenato a couple of times in the past that the food is not very good. Nothing apart from Pizza appears to have been cooked freshly - again I had pasta which was like shoe leather.
Great venue and the staff were really attentive.... food and wines were perfect.
The service was outstanding!!! Pizza and risotto were super tasty. Wine was really great as well. Very good value with the pre theatre menu
