Nice atmosphere but portions were a lot smaller than anticipated (considering the price!) and so we ended up ordering two mains each. Neither of my dishes (pappardelle with ragu and the squid & octopus on polenta) was really worth the money and both were very salty. Disappointing...
We had a meal here after seeing Hamilton so were eating quite late. Very quick service and meal- special pizza and gnocci - were very tasty. Very convenient for the Victoria Palace theatre and good vegetarian options.
Excellent evening, good service, simple elegant food
Whilst the food was lovely the environment was a bit of a let down. The hostess sat us next to the only full table in the restaurant, when we asked to move it seemed an inconvenience. Our drinks order was wrong and the waiter didn’t know the offerings. The chilli oil dripper was broken and an entire pizza was covered/drenched in oil. The waiter didn’t care and couldn’t seem to understand the issue. He kept just smiling as though I was explaining my problem in another language. I’d like to return for a taste offering but definitely not for the service.
Food was outstanding and very good value. Wine was also very good (and good value too). There was a nice relaxed atmosphere and I would definitely go back for a meal where I wanted something casual and relaxing, but also good value. The maitre d' was also very friendly and attentive. All in all a very nice evening.
Buzzing atmosphere and tasty food. Service was a little slow at times, but other than that no complaints.
Such a shame our experience here was not good. Food was fab and ambiance was great. However, when we arrived we were asked to wait in the bar as our res was 30mins away - completely understandable but we then sat in the wrong bit of the bar and were rudely asked to move. I witnessed this happen to 3 others groups who were equally as shocked. There was no signage or even assistance as to where we could sit just told to move as not for us. We then perched at the bar and felt quite uncomfortable - the bar area was quite full. It would have been far better to take us to our table (restaurant was empty) with our drinks on the understanding we couldn't order until 5:30 when the menu was available.
When we did go to our seats the first thing we were told was you need to leave by 7pm!! Now I appreciate the occupancy rules in restaurants but I have NEVER been told so explicitly. I was made to feel like a nuisance even daring to sit down when clearly there must be far more important people to be there and to make sure I cleared out of the way! As it happened we had no intention of being there past 6:30 so was an entirely inappropriate message. Had anyone taken to time to talk to us they would have known we (as most people eating at such an early time in this area) were going to see Hamilton and needed to queue at 6:30.
This place could be amazing but completely failed on making me and many others from my observations feel special in anyway. Taking a cattle approach to your customers in such a place stands out like a sore thumb. Will not be going back which is a shame as food was marvellous. You need to map your CX to get it to the same standard as your food.
Pizzas good, but suppose I’m very traditional and like non fussy types.
Service friendly but I do agree it’s a big haphazard
Wine lost good
some of the best pizza in town...
...along with a good wine list
Service was appalling and although bar manager tried to remedy by that point damage was done.
This was my 4th visit here and it never fails. The Pizza of the week/month is my favorite and such original toppings. The staff are so helpful, excellent, attentive as is the bar upstairs 'Drunken Oyster' - i love this spot and perfect for catch up with friends.
Nice cosy bar upstairs where we had cocktails first.
Service was friendly and attentive. Music rather too loud in my opinion.
We ordered pizzas in the restaurant which arrived very quickly. We both chose a pizza bianca (no tomato) which were tasty but very rich and cheesy - would have preferred the tomato type I think, but that’s just my taste. Service again was very good.
My only gripe is that the rocket salad was way too salty.
This is a nice place in an area that’s pretty short of nice places and is also very handy for Victoria
Amazing risotto starter, followed disappointingly by heavy pizza and doughy gnocci
Great addition to Victoria dining scene. The pizza was excellent and service attentive. Will definitely return for seconds!
We came for the pre-theatre menu... and actually went a la carte. The menu was varied, the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Really good value for money - our Pizza's were huge. A great night, thanks.
Set menu very good value, 2 courses pre theatre. Tasty food and good service.
Excellent food and a lovely waiter who was fabulous. Will definitely go again.
We tried this for our anniversary and had a great meal, with delicious ingredients. The squid & octopus with polenta was lovely and I had the guest pizza by Massimo Bottura which was yummy. We also asked to share a dessert as we were quite full and to our surprise, it contained a candle and we were wished happy anniversary by the staff, which was a nice gesture. Great service with staff always checking in with us and a cosy and intimate atmosphere. I would totally recommend this restaurant!
I was really looking forward to this but I was quite disappointed. Both dishes promised a lot more than they delivered. Neither dish had a sufficient keynote - the pink lady salad was ruined by some horrible kale crisps and the hazelnuts are too fiddly to eat with the salad. They pizza bianca base was too thick and the topping cloying and fatty with nothing to offset the cheese. And potatoes as a pizza topping merely made it worse
Very handily placed. A good overall menu, but the pizzas are the thing. Proper dough, quality ingredients and complementary yet imaginative combinations. The confit lamb, aubergine and ras el hanout pizza was terrific. Pizzas especially are good value. A good selection of Italian wines at sensible prices too.
Food was very average and service quite poor, very slow and difficult to get waiting staff’s attention.
Bar was far too busy at 1900 and bar service slow however once seated at table and happy hour had passed the service was excellent
Good New York style Italian menu - salami meat platter and octopus starters were amazing. And as for the striploin steak with salsa verde...yum yum yum, with to die for roast potatoes
Our waitress, Serena, was from Sicily and picked up on our Sicialian choice of wine. This lead to her recommending a fantastic second bottle of red. Very attentive service
My friends and I really enjoyed our meal here. We all had pizzas and really enjoyed it. Will definitely come back to try out other dishes on the menu. The pasta looked so great.
The gnocchi was excellent. The pizza was great. Very convenient to Hamilton @ Victoria Palace.
Excellent Neapolitan pizza and the service was great. This was a pre-theater booking and we were out with time to spare.
Went in post theatre for a quick pizza. Very tasty w good quality ingredients and efficient & friendly service. Decent Italian wines by the glass. Just quite expensive!
This was my second time at Hai Cenato. The restaurant is a posher/funkier version of Pizza Express or a slumming it version of a high-end artisan kitchen. In other words, the food is okay but not that good. What was spectacularly bad was the customer service. It appears that Hai Cenato's motto is that the customer is always wrong. Having confirmed that they would take an Open Table voucher at the beginning of the meal, they refused to at the end. That is annoying and they could have simply reduced some of the bill as a gesture of goodwill. Instead, after a lot of coming and going, they took off the service charge. That's right. The service charge that is discretionary and for the staff that serves the customer. The manager didn't seem to understand why this was shameful. Having got nowhere at the restaurant I contacted the owners only to discover that their team take a similar approach. They put the blame on Open Table, Open Table stated the restaurant had informed them they did take vouchers, and the restaurant refused to acknowledge that their behaviour to their staff was poor. As of writing, they are refusing to give a refund on the bill, pay their staff or donate to a food charity. Obviously, this is one for the never to return to list.
Perfect for pre theatre meal. We are very early on a Monday evening, so restaurant was very quiet but service was good and fast. The only negative was our table was located next to the water's station which was annoying as the restaurant was not busy.
Very good all round
Service v good
On both occasions we've visited Hai Cenato the food had been good but we've had a disappointing table for 2, either right by the serving door on the top floor or tucked in the far corner of the ground floor, squashed between the glass and the bar. You need to offer better tables for two.
Service wasn't great this time either - our main course was delivered to the table before our starter plates had been cleared away. Not the level of care and attention you expect with a 12.5% service charge.
I Took my wife here before we went to the Apollo to see wicked on Valentine’s Day never heard of the restaurant before and found it on open table. When we arrived at 18:00 the restaurant was very quiet and we was shown to our table. I was a little worried to why it was so quiet but that all soon changed by 7-7:30 the place was packed and they were turning people away at the door that hadn’t booked. I could see why the food was incredible I had the chefs special pizza and it was hands down one of the best pizza’s I’ve eaten in my life, We was in sort of a rush to eat and get to our show at 19:30 so I asked the waiter if we could have our share starter, mains and sides all bought out at the same time which he did and we had no waiting around. I will 100% be returning to hai Cenato and highly recommend it.
Great set menu
I like my pizza, Service is very poor, waiter has no respectful and caring manner to us.
Fantastic pizzas - not the takeaway kind but real sour dough base with interesting approach to toppings. Super friendly service.
On a wet and cold Saturday, arriving at Hai Cenato was a good experience. The staff were excellent throughout, and we enjoyed being able to speak to each other without shouting. The cocktail of the day was terrific - and the food that we had was fine. The downsides were that the menu is very short, and the choice was either pizzas, or extremely expensive mains. Also, the wine by the glass was very pricey. In summary, it was too expensive for everyday eating, and not really providing a broad enough offering for a more special occasion.
Very friendly service, excellent food and drink. Would definitely recommend.
Its a lovely little spot just tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Victoria, granted this can make it a little difficult to spot, but its worth hunting around for. The restaurant is beautifully presented with a rather scenic panoramic view of the cocktail bars and other restaurants in the area. The table staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu, but they did seem a little over bearing at times, they were just that little bit too persistent to take our order and to check up on how everything was.
Its not the easiest of places to get a drink either, when we ordered food, we declined drinks. It was then almost impossible to get a waiter to come and take our drinks order, and we had to ask our main waiter three times to being us over a drinks menu, which was a let down, especially when you consider there were only three other tables of people dining at the time.
While the food and the setting were lovely, the price point was rather high, we paid over £60 for three pizzas and 2 glasses of fairly standard wine. I've lived in Central London for 4 years, and I'm used to everything costing that little bit more, but this is a bit too high for what is simply cheese and tomato on dough.
In a nut shell, its worth going to once for someones birthday, but for the money you'd spend, maybe go somewhere with more choice.
A great restaurant in London, very close to Victoria station. I went with my boyfriend and we had a great time eating good food and drinking good wine. We served by Steven, an excellent Italian guy. We will go again soon.
Greeted like an old friend. Set lunch is excellent value. Eaten lunch there x2 in last 10 days - risotto, pasta and pizzas have all been very enjoyable. Wine list is all Italian and some great choices. The waiters and management are all very friendly and efficient. Thoroughly recommended.
