Service and food were fantastic....sensibly priced for Penicuik.
Would return again.
Was here for Valentines Evening, staff were very friendly and attentive always making sure you had enjoyed the course and keeping you topped up with water and drinks. The food was something else, I loved everything. Its a local gem and I will be sure to be back for food.
My second visit to Haig’s with friends for lunch. The food was great both times though felt that the pulled pork on my pitta was a bit dry. Couldn’t fault the fish and chips I had the first time though, it was excellent! I am happy to say that the service had improved since I was last there, the staff were more attentive this time. All staff were very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend and have already booked to come back.
Yummy food, good service and lovely staff although they did forget our drinks a few times.
We will be back though!
Hi there the meal was very good apart from the steak it was ok not worth the £25 I paid for it . Steak was cooked ok but was not really tasty enough. Was a bit disappointed with all the onions , garlic etc piled on top of it made my steak a bit soggy.
A great all round experience. Really good atmosphere and decor and the food and service were both fantastic ! Nice spacing between courses as well. I will definitely be back, thank you !
This was our 2nd visit to Haigs and once again we were not disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty and very inventive. Service was again faultless even although the bar and restaurant were extremely busy. I would have no problems in recommending and this will become on of our normal places to eat.
Very relaxed evening. Superb service. Could probably condense the two menus, only one needed. Well done great place in Penicuik.
Good value food with efficient & friendly service. Nice cocktails and drinks too!
Although there was only a reduced menu on offer - it was a Scottish bank holiday - the food and service were excellent!
We loved our meal and drinks cocktails were amazing.
Food was good service was good . Only complaint was that we felt rushed by waitress to finish meal. Made booking for 8.30 pm we arrived early and were given our table ,which was excellent but she clearly felt pressured to have our table cleared by 9pm and was somewhat reluctant to serve us desserts. Surely they can't expect to be seated, served and finished a meal In 30 mins . If they want restaurant / kitchen area finished by 9pm then do not take bookings for 8.30pm.
This was our 2nd time dining. We booked in advance & pre advised that 2 of the party were lactose intolerant, our waiter made a point of highlighting this upon our being seated & advised that he would liaise with the chef as required - really nice touch!
The menu however meant all our party could eat without worry & the quality of the food as well as the presentation was of a standard you would find in a City eateries.
Would recommend Haig’s, will be back & I hope 2018 is a successful year for them!!
Came here on Saturday night for a catch up with my sister-in-law. Had been looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about and sorry to say, was left disappointed and wouldn’t rush back. When we arrived, there was nobody to greet us like I’d expect in a restaurant, so had to get someone’s attention from the busy bar area. We were early but our table was ready - unfortunately right next to the kitchen but so be it. The waiter called ‘Peter’ took our jackets and I thought they were being taken to a secure cloakroom but soon turned out they were just hung up at the opposite end of restaurant near front door - I would have kept jacket with me if I’d known that was the case. We were then left for a good 10mins and eventually I had to ask ‘Peter’ for drinks menu - I did wait until he finished whatever he was doing on his mobile phone though! We ordered cocktails which were lovely and the meal was alright - the waiting staff were charming, very polite but just need that little bit more attentiveness. ‘Peter’ was a charmer with us girls and there was another young waiter (dark curly hair, glasses) who seemed nervous but very polite. That can’t be said for ‘Kieran’ - I went to the bar to order more cocktails and found him to be abrupt and he might not have been aware he did this, but he actually tutted. I just felt like asking for a cocktail was a hassle to him - we had to return a cocktail as just didn’t taste right (might have been a dirty glass as I know you had run out of glasses you use for the Woos Woos), and again, he came across as this being an inconvenience to him. Your barmaid Laura fixed the drinks and I found her to be very good - she didn’t fluster and resolved the problem because apparently she was the best at making these drinks. We sat in the bar area, which is really nice - but there was a loud bunch of 18 year olds in who started getting more rowdy as the evening continued and were eventually asked to leave by Hannah.
Food excellent, service very good, depending where you were seated very cold and lighting poor. Noise is excessive, this was a Friday evening. Not the place for a quiet intimate meal.
