Excellent food and service as always; third visit and really enjoyed it.
Another lovely meal and great service, only spoiled by a couple of rowdy young men who were swearing at the bar. A family with a young child got up and left!
Great service and lovely food. Very quiet for a Saturday night
I was in with my family and we all had a very nice meal. we had two young children, it would have been nice to have coloured pens and mats. The service was excellent, all young staff and very attentive.
I thought it was very noisy and it would have been nice to have the bar more separate.
The meal and the cocktails were very tasty. we had a lovely night . thanks
Food was fabulous
Staff were great
Well worth recommending
The team in Haigs always deliver fantastic service.
The food is delicious and we love the decor in the restaurant.
Haigs is THE best place to eat (and drink) in Penicuik.
Had a lovely lunch with friends. Food simple but very tasty. Excellent service too,
Haigs has to be the best bar/restaurant in Penicuik. It is centrally located and has been done up to a high standard. The service was excellent and the food was very good. Will definitely be returning.
Nice lunch with friends. Food was good and very reasonably priced. We were well looked after and felt very relaxed.
We had a lovely evening! Fantastic food, great, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
Haigs is a lovely pub/ restaurant that serves nice food and lots of varieties of drinks.
Haig's is worth a visit for the quality of the cooking of the starters and main courses. The service was attentive if a bit amateurish, which was not a great surprise given the youth of the serving staff. However, the cheeseboard, which we ordered instead of dessert was poor. Given that this is the only dish that the chef has no part in preparing the essence is to buy good cheese. The cheese was not good quality. I will go back but I will avoid the cheese board
Went in on Sunday with family for the Sunday lunch offer and it was amazing
Lamb was cooked perfectly as was the beef and the chicken wrap looked and tasted amazing would highly recommend the menu.
Very noisey but that is because it is a bar/restaurant with no separation. No greet meet we had yo advise we had a table reserved. Then we waited 10mins before being offered drinks and menus. Not enough staff! Food received was okay but menu choice was disappointing. Was first weekend of new menu though so perhaps this will be amended.
I've visited a few times before and it's always been a good experience but not this time.
The menu has halved in size and lost all its interesting dishes.
I ordered garlic prawns and had to send them back as they were not cooked through. The replacements were nice although missing the bread that was supposed to accompany them.
For my main course I had asked for a Blue steak, it's something I've eaten a lot when I'm out and I've also cooked myself. The steak was such a disappointment, really seared on the outside but stone cold.
Great service and excellent food! The young guy that took our booking is a credit to haigs, very attentive and extremely pleasant.
The atmosphere was very welcoming- we were seated promptly in a lovely booth. The lovely waitress took our drinks order quickly and we received them in good time. We shared some ‘nibbles’ which were delicious. The main courses were of mixed quality. The chicken was tasty but the fish finger sandwich was not quite what I expected.. the homemade bread was delicious but the fish a bit tasteless. The triple cooked chips were nice too. We had a lovely evening and the staff were very attentive... we would definitely go back.
Brilliant food and service would highly recommend.
We have been to the Haig's Bar on a few occasions and the overall experience has always been good. This last occasion the food was a little less impressive from a taste perspective compared to the previous dinner we had there. I think it may have something to do with the different chefs on duty at the time. Regardless, we had no reason for complaints and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
Went for my daughters 18th Birthday meal. Lovely place, nice food and excellent service. Had a few cocktails which were really nice. Will definitely return and recommend to friends.
Loved the interior look of the restaurant. Very modern and attractive! Food was really nice and service was efficient and friendly.
Love Haigs, here often for drinks. Really enjoyed the new menu. The house red wine is lovely. And as always the staff were great. Fab place to eat & drink.
I was very impressed with the service and the very friendly staff.
We really enjoyed our dinner but felt the roast potatoes were more of the aunt Bessie type than something I would make at home but still tasty.
The meal was great, however the time to get served was appalling. Waited 40 mins to get served. Meal was nice. Waited another 30 min for desert to arrive. By the time we got served at lunch time it was nearly dinner time when we finished. We did feel very ignored by staff. Some people coming in after us served and finished before we started. I won't recommend. Possibly a bad day for them. We did book in advance, which appears to have made no difference. Don't know if I'll go back again.
Excellent Service from Erica & Aiden, Great food xx
Fantastic great quality food at very reasonable price. Staff where very welcoming and accommodating. Service was perfect and no long waits for food or between dishes. Highly recommend to all.
Second visit for Breakfast. Food is nice, hot and fresh. Three of us. One ordered pancakes, bacon, syrup. Pancakes replaced with bread. When asked for pancakes this was courteously taken away. However it was replaced with what looked like crumpets which were dry. First visit it was explained, though the menu says pastries, these were not available. This time a lemon and lime cheese cake was ordered. Although the desert was nice, it was not cheesecake. Looked more like a tart. Coffee is great. Couldn't fault the service. We were there early (9.30am) and the room needed to be a bit warmer for this time of year.
We were not in a rush so was not so bad but 45 mins passed before the food order was taken. And similarly for it to arrive. Lots of people looked a bit miffed at the time taken to get service.
Once food arrived we were asked three times if it was ok. Service seemed to be famine (literally) to feast.
I would return for convenience only if I wasn't due anywhere after.
Great night out with my friends. Servers Craig and Emma were brilliant, couldn’t do enough for us. Great service, great food and great place could say anything negative.
Lovely atmosphere and good food. Had the set menu so will have to go back to try the full menu. Would definitely recommend to a Friend!
We had the full breakfast. Huge meal, hot, fresh and good value for money.
Was a bit too noisy but it was a Saturday night. Overall, this restaurant always delivers - the food is excellent, the service is great and it's pretty good value as well. On most nights the atmosphere is good too and not quite as noisy!
We had a nice meal here and the waitress was excellent and very attentive, but the music was too loud and coupled with lots of people chatting I didn't feel relaxed as the noise level was exceptionally high
We had a lovely evening, the service was excellent. A couple of points for the chef, the starter of quail Scotch eggs was one small scotch egg on an extremely vinegary salad and a not very nice chutney. The egg was fine but totally spoiled by the accompaniments. The main course of fish and chips, very disappointing, two thin strips of fish, not a whole fillet, covered in an anaemic batter that was anything but crisp. Too many chips, although not strictly chips more fried potatoes. The tartare sauce was nice.
However, the service was super and I do like Haigs, this would not stop me coming back, but there is room for improvement.
Lovely food, always good value for money, local food for ingredients used, friendly staff
Lovely meal and service was great would definitely recommend and and return to Haigs great selection of drinks
I have only given four stars overall as, though the smoked salmon eggs benedict I had were OUTSTANDING, my partner was disappointed with the full breakfast he had. He felt the sausages were of poor quality and the tattie scone and bacon were overcooked. Still giving four stars though, as the quality of the food I had was very good. Reasonable prices and efficient staff made for an enjoyable brunch.
Very disappointed in our visit. I booked Sunday lunch for my partner and I after seeing an advertisement for a lovely sounding varied set menu. We arrived at 1pm to find it was just soup on offer and no choice for desert other than what was on a rather worse for wear looking bar menu that hasn't been updated since the place opened. Our main course roast was ok. But the only reason we stayed is because we were really hungry by this point and had waited ages for our food. Certainly will not be back.
Great venue, great food , friendly staff couldnt ask for any better.
Mixed feeling about visit as food was excellent as it has been on each occasion I’ve eaten here. But service very poor we had been in for 35 mins before we got our drinks which came the same time as our starters. Then a further lengthy wait for the main course. One joung girl seemed to be doing all the running around.
