A visit to Hambleton Hall is always a special occasion because the setting and the staff create a comfortable ambience for all circumstances. We enjoyed a relaxed Sunday lunch; the fine weather permitting full appreciation of the lovely views from the terrace over the pristine gardens and across Rutland Water. The 3-course menu was short and clear, but the quality of ingredients, preparation, presentation and service transformed the starter, Sunday roast and dessert into memorable taste experiences. The suggested wine pairings complemented the food ideally. We look forward as much to our next meal there as we have to those enjoyed over the past 30 years.
Outstanding as usual.
I would always recommend going with the Somelier's wine choice !
Great experience, felt like we was the only ones there. Smooth operation, out of this world food and dancing taste buds.
A really delicious lunch in a fantastic setting. The lemon soufflé with sorrel sorbet was particularly wonderful.
Absolutely amazing food, finished a good weekend away with friends and made it perfect
It was our 40th wedding anniversary and having visited many restaurants to celebrate other important occasions, this without doubt surpassed them all. It started with a small, but nonetheless important comment included in our menus, congratulating us on our anniversary.
The service was exemplary and attentive, but not overly so. They were not only very knowledgeable about their food and wines, as you might expect, but also about the history of building and surrounding area. The ambience was warm and welcoming and we enjoyed the stunning location overlooking Rutland Water.
Finally the food; not quite sure how I can best describe what was a fantastic meal, for quality, taste and service. We didn't have to ask for our wine to be served when it was needed as it was kept away cooling from the table. We were not rushed nor having to wait between courses. I simply cannot fault anything. Regarding the price, we believe it to be more than fair, it is what one would expect for such fine food, ambience and service and if you are looking for a venue that delivers on all these then Hambleton Hall is well worth a visit, without, that is, getting too stressed and fixated about the bill!
What a fabulous lunch. Highlights were the Rhubarb soufflé with rhubarb sorbet; impeccable service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely return and stay over next time!
My 70th Birthday lunch for the family. Excellent all round every time we have visited. Every one left happy.
Everything was absolutely Faultless ! And I highly recommend Hambleton Hall
The drive to dine at Hambleton Hall was well worth it and the food more than exceeded our expectations. It is easy to see why it has held its Michelin star for so long.
I went for our 10yr wedding anniversary. From the start to finish it was absolutely excellent. I can't stress enough how the staff go the extra mile to look after us.
Very tasty and beautifully presented food. Perfect ambience in the dining room and on the sun terrace for coffee and treats. We have dined here previously and will do again.
Our lunch was for the school reunion of friends who hadn't met for some time. One guest was late in arriving and so the Luncheon was delayed by 40 minutes. However, the staff were very patient with the party's delay in starting the lunch which did not fail to disappoint. The food, surroundings and ambiance of Hambleton Hall is exquisite. Thank you.
We chose Hambleton Hall to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary as a couple. All the staff were super attentive and helpful - they gave us a really warm and individual welcome. The food was excellent, as expected. The Hall and the surroundings added to the wonderful ambience.
It was a perfect way to celebrate a freind’s birthday. We sipped cocktails on the terrace of the most beautiful house while we deliberated- what to chose from the most interesting selection of dishes on the menu. The waiter was happy to custom make a non alcoholic drink for my friend , it was beautifully presented and delicious. The waiters and waitresses were friendly but professional, service was unobtrusive and smooth. We had a three course lunch with extra little tastes along the way. Highlights for me were trying smoked eel , an Iberico pork main course and a very impressive choice of desserts but we all thought the Hambleton Orange was amazing. We had our coffee and delicious petit fours back out on the terrace and gazed out across the gardens to most incredible views of Rutland Water. The whole experience surpassed our expectations .
We had the Lunch menu for less, delicious food but sadly we had the same choice of 2 main courses that we had had on our previous visit back in March-
For a special occasion especially when the weather is good this is a superb place to be and eat. Sitting out on the terrace for pre eat drinks sets the tone for a great experience.
The prices preclude this from being anything other than a special occasion to look forward to.
Excellent throughout. Service at a level rarely experienced today. Will certainly go again
This is a regular visit at least once or twice a year on birthdays ands it’s always wonderful! We love the peaceful lounge and glorious garden and the service is superb. We had the special lunch menu which is excellent value and exceedingly well cooked. Canapés first, a light feta salad, the beautiful rich belly pork, a super light raspberry soufflé and decadent sweets with the coffee. Absolutely recommend for a top quality, relaxing lunch out!
We went for lunch at Hambleton Hall for my sister’s 60th birthday. She was made to feel
very special from the moment we arrived. She was given a personalised menu to keep and a birthday cake with our coffee. We all chose from the “Lunch for Less “ menu ( the name doesn’t give the food justice) as all the courses were superb and cooked to perfection.
The raspberry soufflé in particular was absolutely gorgeous and worked well with raspberry sorbet.
We could not fault the staff and were very attentive ....they certainly made my sister’s day.
We visit 2 or 3 times a year and it's always worth the hour's drive.
Food is always excellent, as is the service.
When the weather is good the verandah provides a beautiful view over the reservoir.
Hambleton hall was the perfect venue for a special birthday celebration. The food was flawlessly presented and flavours exquisitely combined for a memorable culinary experience. The service was impeccable and the venue breathtakingly scenic. It will break the bank, but I cannot fault the special experience gifted by such artfully prepared food, enjoyed in such beautiful surrounds. We will be back, as soon as we've saved up!
We got married hear in 2007 and rated Hambleton Hall very highly then. It has not changed at all the service, just excellent, and the food was superb.
We will recommend Hambleton Hall to all our friends.
They provide an excellent service for birthdays and anniversaries.
From the moment of arrival we were treated as cared for customers. Nothing was too much trouble. Every member of staff was friendly, genuine and sincere. The food was outstanding and delicious. Beautiful presentation and the most intense flavours. Out of this world!
We had been recommended to Hambleton Hall by very discerning friends and so chose to go for the first time on our wedding anniversary. We were greeted accordingly, seated and enjoyed our drinks before being called to our table. The menu was both traditional and imaginative and the quality of the dishes as well as their presentation was worthy of a Michelin star. For the main course I had an excellent duck cooked to perfection while Gill had the turbot, again done to perfection. Needless to say we enjoyed our desserts and coffee and chocolates after. A most enjoyable luncheon experience, one we will be sure to repeat.
Treated my mum to a lovely birthday lunch, would definitely return.
Fabulous as always, love the new metal straws! Hambleton Hall is always my go to place for a special occasion. The service and food are always impeccable.
The gluten free bread was not good.Main portion is small.
Service was amazing everything to details. Food best I’ve eaten. Could not faulty anything. Perfect from start to finish. Will be back
Had an amazing time celebrating my partners birthday, perfect for a special occasion.
Fabulous fine dining - lunch for less though is not really as the title suggests... as £11.50 for a Gordon’s and tonic is a bit steep! But good amazing and so was the service- for a special event - very nice.... although we did joke by saying at 52 we were the youngest by 20 years!!
This is our favourite place to celebrate birthdays or any special occasion or just lunch together. Everything about the experience is excellent, everyone works to achieve the highest standard but without being oppressive and the setting is wonderful.
What an amazing meal, everything superbly presented and sumptuous. Would definitely recommend booking for a special occasion, well worth the money.
We went last Sunday and had a lovely lunch - the sun had finally come out and we had a window seat. The menu had great options and the food that came was aesthetically pleasing as well as full of flavour - it was a shame there was a rogue hair in my main but the manager did apologise profusely and deduct something from the bill as a gesture of good will.
I've now been to 122 michelin star restaurants and some feedback I would give is, and again this is just down to personal preference and what you deem good manners are the two following things:
1. I have a pet dog and I'm an animal lover, but walking into a Relais & Chateaux venue and being met by 3 huge, panting golden labradors which were lolling on the rugs and resting their heads on the sofas did make me cringe. Animals are lovely but there are going to be a lot of people that aren't fans, are scared of them or simply do not want dog hair / drool / mud on their clothes either by standing in the same room or by sitting on said furniture. It's not a 5* experience.
2. As we were sat in the window with fabulous views, we were also getting the sun fully on us. They also had the radiator under the window on full. We asked to have the radiator turned off and the window open (it was a lovely warm day outside) which the happily did after agreeing that it was too warm. During our main course more diners were seated. Without even asking if it was ok, both windows next to us were shut 'because someone else had asked that they be' - now I understand that it is a balancing act of keeping everyone happy but us being told, not even asked, made us feel very unimportant and undervalued as a customer. It resulted in us both being so hot and uncomfortable that we terminated the meal - we didn't eat a dessert and went to the front desk to pay just so we could cool down. For a michelin establishment, I expected FAR FAR better.
Hambleton Hall is always excellent. The service is perfect and the food is a rung above everywhere I have eaten. It’s not cheap but as a bi-monthly treat, I can make my peace with the bill.
I have been visiting Hambleton Hall for a number of years and it continues it maintain its high standards for service, ambiance and excellent food.
Wonderful service, great food and a lovely environment. Loved everything about it.
We loved the atmosphere and were seriously
Impressed by the amazing food!

Hambleton Hall can be relied on to deliver an exceptionally good lunch with new taste combinations on each visit and some unusual ingredients.
