Hamrock's Restaurant (fka Choices by Shawn)
We had an amazing time! The staff was amazing and made my birthday extra special! Thank you so much Sebastian!!! ❤️
The brunch menu featured some Southern classics (chicken & waffles, deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes), along with yummy vegetarian selections and an awesome crab cake benedict. I love the historic house location. The dining areas are divided into small rooms, and we unfortunately had patrons with extremely loud voices at a table in our small room, which made brunch a bit unpleasant. If the weather is nice, opt for the porch!
We had Sunday Brunch and the menu was a little thin in selections. We opted for the Breakfast items. The popover and lemon and blueberry muffins were a nice accompany with our eggs and sausage. The restaurant was very busy. Housed in a 19th century historic home in the center of the City of Fairfax provides a nice ambiance. I look forward to trying the full menu on a week day.
This is a very “cozy” place that has the fell that your eating in the home of a colonial family from days past. We were there for brunch and the menu had nice selections. Prices are really reasonable too. Our waiter was a very young male who checked on us frequently, but wasn’t one to converse with customer. The food was mix however. There were three of us. We all ordered the brunch plater. We all really enjoyed the French toast, pancakes and sausage, but the eggs and potatoes were very bland with little to no taste. The French toast was the star.
Excellent meal. Wobbly table and the chairs were a little hard, but most other chairs had padding. The waitress was friendly and helpful.
Great brunch restaurant
We had a great dinner at Hamrock's. We had been before when it was Choices and the menu is still excellent-perhaps even a bit better! Food was excellent and our server, Sebastian, was wonderful.
Wonderful food and service.
We have been to Hamrock’s three times. The first two were good except service was slow but we decided to bring friends there for dinner. Took too long to get seated. Too long to get service. Food was not prepared well. Four adults who eat out a lot and all said the same thing. Will not be back.
Hamrock's is our go to neighborhood restaurant for relaxed fine dining. Service is always attentive and pleasant, the setting is conducive to discussions and comfortable, and the offerings are both sufficiently diverse and interesting enough to provide options for everyone. I had the ribeye, which was wonderfully flavorful and cooked only a little over my requested medium rare. Others in my party had the filet mignon, chicken limone, and southern fried chicken. We sat outside on the historic home's covered porch and everyone enjoyed their choice. The chicken citrone came with angel hair pasta and marinara, as described, and had less of a citrus character than we expected, which was something more akin to chicken limone or piccata. Nevertheless, the chicken itself and the sauce were both well prepared and tasty. We recommend Hamrock's to anyone looking for a pleasant, moderately priced, upscale lunch or dinner. Still haven't tried brunch there, but we plan to.
We enjoyed a delicious meal in a comfortable setting. The noise level is a problem..I guess with wood floors and nothing to absorb sound from the other tables in the room. We were seated right on time when we arrived. The food took a little longer to arrive than I have experienced in the past.
Amazing ambiance, friendly service & incredible food.
The food and service were good, but the kitchen seemed slow. The time between when we finished our appetizers and when we were served dinner was longer than normal.
Excellent as always. Our favorite spot in the area for special occasions.
This was our second time at Hamrock's and it was on a busy Saturday night, so we were glad we had reservations. We were seated immediately and our waitress was very attentive and took our drink orders right away. The rolls were awesome. I ordered the shrimp risotto dish and it was okay - a little soupy and could have been more shrimp for the price. The others were pleased with their entrees. The main complaint we had is that the tables are so close together and with everyone talking, it was hard to hear the people at our table. Not sure how to fix that?
My first time here but will not be my last-it was fantastic!
A nice place for a quiet dinner, but the food was so-so. The calamari and cauliflower appetizers were great, but the main courses (stuffed shrimp risotto) were sub-par.
Would have loved a Bloody Mary. Deck needs shoring up. Felt every footstep when people walked by. Wonderful setting.
The restaurant and service was great. Fairfax is paving the streets so noise level was extremely high.
Loved everything about our experience!
Delightful resturant in historic home.
Sat on porch food is very good
The restaurant is an adorable old home. The staff was great. Many of the items on the menu were GF which was important to me. I had the southern fried chicken. It was good, a bit bland, but good. The chocolate cake (GF) was very, very good!
Good services; good food choices especially to have gluten free choices. Will definitely return.
Delicious Father’s Day brunch at Hamrock’s. We’re all looking forward to a return visit.
The Father's Day brunch was excellent and my son was thrilled it came with homemade ice cream.
We had a very nice Father’s Day brunch on Sunday. We enjoyed our food and our server was very professional and kind.
This our first time going to the restaurant for Father's Day and we absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is beautiful with that old look, service was perfect, food delicious.
Very quaint. Lots of gluten free options. A fun place to go.
The food is cooked very well but really needs seasoning. The porch needs a good power wash - it’s cute until you start looking at the railings.
Service is always really nice. I feel likes some subtle changes would make a massive difference.
We brought out of town friends to Hamrocks and were extremely pleased with our experience. The appetizers were especially fun (the brussel sprouts and the firecracker shrimp) We look forward to our next dinner at Hamrocks!
Nothing special. Overpriced and not great service
Food came to the table cold. Some dishes were over-cooked while others were under-cooked. Chicken was tough and chewy. Server was inattentive even though
It was not particularly busy. Disappointing dining experience.
Went for a birthday dinner and our server couldn’t have been nicer or more professional
Always an excellent experience. This was no exception.
Out of town friends asked to take us to our local favorite so we suggested Hamrock's. We enjoy the historic and inviting setting and the always interesting menu options. I had the scallops while others had a variety of dishes. The scallops were excellent - a surprising number of medium-large scallops in a wonderful creamy sauce with al dente summer vegetables. Everyone was pleased with the presentation and taste of their choices. Portions are generous without being excessive. We particularly appreciated being able to maintain a conversation without shouting at each other! No reservations about recommending this local favorite.
This was our first time at the restaurant. We had a great table on the porch, under their towering tree and away from the street. Very peaceful, felt like we were in the country. Good food and service. We’ll be back.
Sat us outside and mosquitoes took us over. My chicken was very greasy, my daughters food was cold. The Calamari was delicious Only other disappointing thing was it only serves beer and wine
My wife and I celebrated our two year marriage anniversary at Hamrock's recently and expected a lot more. To start, I will lead with the positives of our experience. The two only positives were the host, who was a very nice young man, and the aesthetic of Hamrocks - great feel and beautiful grouds. Now on to why I gave Hamrock's one star. Food: the food was overcooked and both my wife and I had what we could only describe as grains of sand in both of our very different meals. Waiter: Our waiter was nice to start, but she was not attentive by any means of the word and I actually had to get up from the table to find assistance. All in all, I do not think my wife and I will be returning to Hamrock's and will also be informing all those we told to go to select a better option or just get drinks.
Excellent restaurant for celiacs or anyone who requires GF food. I recommend the fried chicken, which I rarely can find prepared GF. It was excellent as well as the shrimp and grits my wife ordered.
