Our dishes are inspired by the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. Think tahini rich hummus, moreish mezze, fresh pitta bread and fiery Harissa. Serious flavours made with love (and help from our brilliant local producers).
Food, service and ambiance are top of our list – but there’s an added bonus. All profits are pumped back into its sister company, Food Nation, who inspire and educate people about good food across Newcastle and Gateshead.

Interesting and delicious food, choose from small or large plates and share. Always pleased with our meal here.
Great food, great prices will definitely recommend and can't wait to get back
This is close to where we live but well worth travelling to. A small restaurant run by very dedicated people. The service is attentive and friendly. The food is the best of Mediterranean with plenty of meat and vegetarian options. Highly recommended.
What a great find in the heart of Sandyford! Absolutely amazing food, and all with a conscience too. Will be back to try Christmas menu when it begins....
Great food well presented knowledgeable staff
Lovely mezze, excellent selection. We will definitely come again
Amazing food, lovely staff! I asked for one of our shared dishes without coriander and the lady serving us remembered and then ordered my own dish without as I’d not realised it had coriander in! Little things like that go along way! fab atmosphere too!
We have eaten at Harrisa a few times and it was as good as always, one of the best restaurants in the north east
Lovely food, fresh and tasty. Great service, but it was a little cold, I needed to keep my coat on.
Place was really quiet but I don't know how. Food was lovely and great value. Don't have to wait long for the meal and every one of the 5 fishes we choose was delicious. Staff also very friendly. All in all a really good experience. Would definitely visit again next time we are in Newcastle.
Wonderful food and wine with a great ambience. Always enjoy my experience here.
Harissa is a stylish and welcoming restaurant with a relaxed and comfortable vibe. Friendly staff, tempting menu and really tasty food at excellent value.
Interesting and very tasty food. We were only 2 but would be good to go with a few others to try a bigger selection of mezze. Not far to walk from Jesmond metro.
Lovely restaurant with warm and welcoming staff. Food was supremely delicious and getting five mezze plates meant we tasted so many different amazing flavours!
Would highly recommend!
Really lovely evening food delicious and staff very attentive
Great food at a great price 👍
This was my 3rd time at Harissa and it seems to get better each time. While a core of the menu remains constant with dips and starters not varying much main dishes change with the seasons and local availability. Advice was to have 3 small dishes each and this proved to be excellent advice. Only problem was we had no room for dessert. Local drinks ,a beer and a cordial, were excellent. We were given some extra focaccia which the chef had been experimenting with that afternoon and it was fabulous.
Service was attentive without being intrusive
Great food, cheerful service , bright setting
An interesting and enjoyable experience with a number of dishes I had not come across before
Wonderful meal, excellent service, will be coming back. Special thanks to Nick
A welcome surprise, Harissa delivered Mediterranean flavours in abundance. A simple yet cultured menu and considered drinks selection was complemented by attentive service. Would definitely visit again!
I ordered a chicken schwarma and it was deliciously cooked and well spiced!
I would have preferred a little more in terms of possibly a side included for the price. Not chips, but something smaller like a coleslaw I think would make it feel like better value in terms of size for price. Chips would have been too much and were unnecessary.
The worst thing about the booking was ambience. The flat walls caused noise to reverberate continuously and it was hard to hold conversations with my party of 4 without raising our voices. I think either more curtains or softer furniture would break up the acoustics a bit and provide a better ambience.
The best thing about the meal was tied either between the service or the quality of the food, both were excellent.
The waiter, unfortunately I didn’t get his name, was patient, flexible and genuine.
Thanks and I would come again but perhaps at a less busy time when we can more easily talk.
Great fresh food in a lovely relax setting! Favorite meal out for a long time!
This was our third visit in 4 months. As it was nice and sunny we ate outside, the staff were attentive and the food was amazing as always. As a vegetarian it’s nice to go somewhere that has as many veggie options as they do meat.
Lovely food, great service. Simple menu done extremely well. Interesting speciality beers & good wines
We went to Harissa for the early Family Mezze with a 1 year old,3 year old,6 year old,2 parents and a granny.
All the children loved the food! The service was extremely friendly and helpful. The 6 year old ate so much "my tummy is exploding". All the food was delicious and portions were so generous we had to take some home. We will definitely be back again.
Fresh and healthy food with great flavours. A simple menu with a really good choice.
Lovely food, and very friendly staff. Would recommend ! Only downside is the shortage of space and rustic furniture, which you would hope will be upgraded in time as the restaurant grows. But overall a great experience!
Beautiful little spot, very nice decor and ambience. Staff were attentive and helpful without being overbearing. Fabulous cocktails and beer selection. Menu is simple and delicious. Food was beautifully presented and generously portioned. I had chicken shawarma and my husband had the veggie mezze with polenta fries - all great! We didn’t really have room but the dessert menu was tempting so we indulged. Glad we did, but needed to have a waddle around the block to walk it off before going home. We will definitely be back!
A wonderful experience! Original and beautifully cooked plates - appropriately seasonal, fresh, great presentation. Welcoming and enthusiastic staff - couldn’t fault the place really.
We went to Harissa for lunch. The menu is fairly limited as it is their Brunch menu so of you don't like Shakshouka or Shawarma then this isn't the place for you (during the day at least). We both ordered the chicken Shawarma which was delicious. The service however was a little slow.
Extremely good evening, must try the specials board next time.
Yes, in general. The menu has changed quite a lot and the price is now quite high. But interesting concept and especially good for the people who live locally
Awesome service and the food was very quick and tasty.
First visit here but certainly won’t be the last. Warmly welcomed and the menu was explained to us. We chose a mezze and 3 small plates to share. Beautifully presented and very tasty exciting food
Excellent food, excellent service - what more is there to say!
My only criticism at all is the portions are very small, I’m not being daft, I know it’s small, sharing plates but the portions were very very small. The food was delicious and beautifully presented but some of the small plates seemed slightly stingy, particularly the vegetable dishes. I still had a great time though and we will definitely be back.
Beautiful food and great service! My only complaint would be there wasn't more of it! Don't we afraid to ask for recommendations on how many dishes to get as I'm sure you would get a honest and helpful answer. Love the local feel and the atmosphere. Will definately be recommending and coming again 😊
Lovely fresh tasting food and lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed my chargrilled chicken Shawarma, the crispy veg and the squid.
Lovely healthy delicious food!!
