Founded in 1993 by the Pounds family, Harry’s is still independently owned and run today. The eclectic restaurant, bar and private dining room all sit within the iconic gothic style building, formerly Harry Hems’ 19th century architectural sculptors workshop.
Went for a mid-week breakfast which meant it was pretty quiet but loved the peaceful surroundings with gorgeous decor. Glad it's still a thriving restaurant in Exeter.
Absolutely amazing place! Food was great as was the service, prices are great too!
Fab food but very unprofessional service.Ordered gin and tonic on arrival, but did not arrive til 15 mins after starter despite several requests.Main courses were then served and left on table without comment half way through eating starter. Had to walk back to bar area with plate to ask for it to be kept warm whilst still on starter. When main was re served there was no cutlery-took 10 mins trying to attract attention to get some,by which time food was luke warm.Asked for wine list and tried to order a glass of wine before main course, but did not succeed despite many attempts til half finished.
Booked Harry’s for Birthday Lunch. Not disappointed.. they came up trumps. Good Food, Wine and Lunchtime Vibes!
The food taste could of tasted better but no worse than many restaurants in Exeter.
Great lunch would highly recommend extensive menu for a lunch service
Fab meal again at Harry’s for a friends birthday. The calamari was delicious as was the chicken. My friends had traveled down from Birmingham and were both really pleased with their choices too. Service was attentive as always and looking forward to my next visit.
Harry’s is fab. We were running late for a late lunch booking so called ahead with our food order which wasn’t a problem. We asked for recommendations choosing wine and were very happy with the house white which was perfectly chilled. We started with a baked Camembert to share served with fresh warm crusty bread and both had seared tuna to follow which was expertly cooked. We finished with coffee and despite being the last in the restaurant for the lunch sitting didn’t feel at all rushed by the staff who were all lovely - helpful, cheerful and attentive.
We’ll definitely be back again!
Thanks Harry’s- my husband really enjoyed his birthday meal :)
Reserved on the basis of online reviews. Great venue, service and food. Will go back when next in Exeter
Great menu, excellent food & the restaurant staff were outstanding.
Good food, great service as always, though having a stater meant I couldn’t sample the tempting desserts.
Great service and food. Very welcoming and nice atmosphere. Food is reasonably priced and good quality. Would highly recommend
A great evening. Haven’t been vir a hour 4 years so was heat to return. I won’t leave it as long next time!
The staff are extremely friendly and ensure you have everything you need throughout the night. The food is excellent, one of the few restaurants in Exeter that pay attention to detail, have a variety of menu choices and maintain a high standard of quality of food. Was very easy and pain free to book a table two days before the evening. Highly recommend!
A fantastic restaurant, great food, service and ambiance.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere.
Not Sure I Would Return. I have been to Harry's Restaurant previously and enjoyed it, however our visit on Saturday night was very different. The food was inedible and the service was poor. We were given a couple of glasses of Prosecco as a token of apology for the main course - Lamb Tagine - that the two of us had ordered could not eat because it was far too sweet. We had to wait over half an hour for our plates to be cleared away after the main course. I would not feel confident recommending this eatery to anyone.
Hi Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to review us - we are very sorry to hear that we did not live up to your expectations on this occasion. Our lamb tagine is made with apricots and dates and is therefore on the sweeter side, we are disappointed to hear that this was not to your taste. Our intention is to be attentive without being overbearing and we are very sorry to hear that on this occasion we did not provide this level of service to you and your guests. Harry's
Amazing food and great service highly recommend if visiting Exeter, would absolutely dine here again
Great food, wine, and atmosphere. Good number of vegetarian options.
I celebrated my birthday here and the meat is really delicious, I will recommend you must to try this restaurant!
Really great food. The only objection we had to Harry's was that you only had your table for 2 hours before it was needed for the next booking. I was quite conscious that my partner needed to hurry up with his main if we were going to fit in a pud! A shame because the food & environment are really great!
Great staff , Great bar tender and lovely place. Will definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone.
Lovely dinner, great service and food. Our favourite restaurant
Harry's was one of my favourite places to eat in Exeter as a student and it was great to go back and visit recently. The food is great, as is the atmosphere. Would absolutely recommend it.
Always enjoy the atmosphere and excellent service
We had been trying to come to Harry’s for a while and glad we finally made it; make sure you book in advance. The service was excellent and the food very good with large portions, we shared the chateaubriand and didn’t quite finish it, which was a shame as it was excellent. It’s a busy restaurant but has a relaxed charming atmosphere. The evening was good value for money. Finally I must compliment the young lady who served us, she was very professional and charming.
Outstanding! Our first experience here! Loved it 😊
Good food, nice atmosphere. The mini flys and the sun shining in our eyes was a bit annoying.
I would recommend Harry’s.
We had a great meal -served by attentive and friendly staff-not a problem bringing our own champagne but corkage was a little expensive.
Love Harrys. Great staff and great food. Never had a bad experience.
Great food as always. I was disappointed the lamb tagine had run out, but the portion size of the chicken burger made up for it!
Service not great, no food menus on arrival, we had to re-order olives 3 times.
Enjoyed another first class breakfast at Harry's - simply full marks all round!
My steak was really chewy and my friend was pink when she ordered medium rare. I didnt enjoy that. The other food ordered by my friends were really good though. The ambience was very good. We went for lunch midweek so it wasn't busy and my friends and I loved it.
First time there went for brunch as we could
Not get in on the Saturday night.
Well worth a visit if you can get in!
Very helpful, polite staff who answered all our food questions and went to find answers when they weren't sure. The food selection was lovely, the flat iron steaks were absolutely delicious (especially with the chimichirri sauce).
We loved the building and were interested to hear that it had been a stonemasons place. Perhaps it would be nice to display some information about the history of the building around (& old photos) because it has such an interesting heritage.
As visitors passing through the area we would love to drop in again when on our way to Cornwall.
Steak was amazing, worth every penny!! would recommend to anyone.
Sat beside a large table of 13, and it was extremely noisy given the confined table layout. Food was good, but wasn’t worth the final bill.
Brilliantly decorated and laid out. Great menu which will leave you torn.
A great establishment with a nice vibe. Staff helpful and friendly, great menu choice and tasty food. Thank you
Great food, great service! Simple... Would go back at the drop of a hat!
