Founded in 1993 by the Pounds family, Harry’s is still independently owned and run today. The eclectic restaurant, bar and private dining room all sit within the iconic gothic style building, formerly Harry Hems’ 19th century architectural sculptors workshop.
Great food, service and vibe. Definitely recommend for either a romantic meal or a family gathering!
Brilliant as always. Never had a bad meal here and have been eating at Harry's for years. So refreshing not to be part of a chain and have experienced staff serving you.
I enjoyed our supper at Harry's, with points of higher and lower success. An initial bread board had one exceptional option (warm baguette) and less appealing triangles of cold sliced brown bread and breadsticks. Beef carpaccio as a starter was packed with flavour, and my main, linguine with crab, was great in terms of the pasta being perfectly al dente, but could have done with a good amount more salt, and without the tiny parts of crab shells in the sauce, which could be felt when chewing. I loved the environment and atmosphere, but perhaps was left me most longing was what I felt as lack of inventiveness in the menu. Super traditional options of steaks, burgers and fajitas are not befitting the hype that surrounds Harry's - it would be amazing to see a more seasonal, complex, creative menu to reflect fewer choices, but a more unforgettable dining adventure.
Thank you for your review and very glad to hear you enjoyed most aspects of Harry's. We will address our preparation of the crab linguine. Our menu is large, however we appeal to a large and varied customer base and I can assure you there would be a riot if we removed some of the traditional offerings! It is a fine line we tread and we are bound to fail to please 100% of the time. We are prepared to listen to criticism and are taking steps to improve are offering as we speak. Samantha
Booked Harry's for a surprise 21st birthday party for my daughter.
Staff were lovely and the food was excellent.
Would highly recommend.
Thank you so much glad you had a good time- hopefully see you again very soon Samantha owner

Great service, amazing food and definitely recommend going. We’ll be back!
From arrival to departure the warm atmosphere, excellent waiting service and delicious food make this the best independent restaurant south of Bristol. Attention to detail, well considered menu both food and wine is a refreshing change.
Thank you so much for your lovely review and kind words, we feel honoured. Look forward to seeing you again soon Samantha
Great food.... And a great atmosphere
Visit for lunch with family. Unfortunately there was a large party celebrating a birthday with 3 generations including very young. They were lovely and it was great to see them having such a wonderful celebration, however it was a bit overwhelming for our small party of 4 and a shame the restaurant didn’t advise against sitting in the same room as the party as it was just them and us.
Our steaks were a little overdone and my pork ribs a bit dry, perhaps reflecting the demand of an order for a table of circa 20 before us.
Shame, as I’m sure it could be really quite nice.
Our booking was made well in advance so didn’t leave happy.
Food was reasonable but noise level was uncomfortably loud. No chance for a reasonable conversation while eating. 6.00pm on a Friday night and it could have been 10,00pm judging by the noise on adjacent tables. We were unfortunate to be placed near a large table [~14 guests] that was occupied by a large private party where some of the guests had been clearly drinking before arriving. Good venue for a party, not so sure I would go for another quiet family meal!
Second time at Harrys this summer! We do not dine out very much in Exeter but this restaurant shines well above most others we have tried in the last few yrs.. Food excellent, service faultless and premises management clearly professional and effective. Keep it up! We will see you next summer - winters spent in Sicilian restaurants!
We always go for a night out at Harry’s when we are in Exeter and the food and service was great as always.
Another outstanding meal enjoyed at Harry's Restaurant. Excellent food, excellent service... it never fails to please!
Beautiful food and decent portions. Definitely book in advance.
Love this restaurant ... having been introduced to it by my daughter. Great food and very attentive, friendly staff. Will definitely be back!
Love going to Harry’s. Everyone is so friendly and great menu with lots of choice!
Best restaurant in Exeter. Fantastic steaks. Yummy Camembert starter
Delightful meal and charming service. Thoroughly recommended
A lovely restaurant with excellent food and friendly service. The new decor is great too.
We loved everything about Harry’s
The food was fabulous
It’s now firmly on our top places to eat list 😃
Love Harry’s. Been coming for years. Gets booked very quickly though so booking in advance is best
Harry's does steak very well, with three Malbecs to complement the half dozen different cuts. It also has an interesting Mexican menu selection as well as the usual salads, veggie alternatives and burgers. Comfortable seating, attentive service and the whole meal for 4 including aperitifs, desserts and a bottle of Cote du Rhone come in at less than £40 a head.
We were referred to Harry’s during our time in Exeter. Everything was wonderful about the whole experience.
Fantastic food and outstanding staff 10 out of 10.
Superb all round, I really can’t fault Harry’s my wife and I had a lovely meal the staff were polite and courteous the food was delicious and I would recommend Harry’s to anyone without hesitation
nothing to complain about, all very lovely..... thank you!
This was a birthday meal and it was phenomenal from start to finish. The service was delightful from the waitresses who attended to us, the food was so gorgeous that it completely stuffed us! Portions were plentiful. It was fab fab fab, we loved every minute of our evening and can’t wait to return! Thank you for a brilliant time! This place is a credit to Exeter
Excellent service and food
I had the chicken fajitas and they were perfectly cooked with the right seasoning and ingredients.
I also enjoyed the Lemon sorbet with Limoncello as dessert.
We had a great evening at Harry's. We had a choice of all restaurants as we don't know Exeter very well and Harry's looked comfortable and welcoming so we booked. We liked the menu choices and it lived up to expectations. Tasty food served by such pleasant staff. Lamb tagine was exceptional. Definitely come again next time we're here. If you want somewhere to eat you won't be disappointed.
Great food, though actually found portions too big for us, so felt a bit wasteful as we couldn't finish it off. But was delicious. Staff were great and venue lovely.
I booked a table for my wife’s birthday while we were in Devon on holiday, really enjoyed everything about the restaurant
First time we have eaten there and no the last. We both treally enjoyed the experience and food.
Very nice place but very limited gluten free options
Good choice on menu, staff friendly just a bit noisy
A lovely place for a date night meal. Something special to tempt the tastebuds. A good selection with much to try. We will have to return to taste something else.
Great food and service, and they had even put out nice decorations for our special event and gave us each a glass of complimentary fizz. Really lovely day, thank you.
Went for a mid-week breakfast which meant it was pretty quiet but loved the peaceful surroundings with gorgeous decor. Glad it's still a thriving restaurant in Exeter.
