Founded in 1993 by the Pounds family, Harry’s is still independently owned and run today. The eclectic restaurant, bar and private dining room all sit within the iconic gothic style building, formerly Harry Hems’ 19th century architectural sculptors workshop.
Good food, nice atmosphere. The mini flys and the sun shining in our eyes was a bit annoying.
I would recommend Harry’s.
We had a great meal -served by attentive and friendly staff-not a problem bringing our own champagne but corkage was a little expensive.
Love Harrys. Great staff and great food. Never had a bad experience.
Great food as always. I was disappointed the lamb tagine had run out, but the portion size of the chicken burger made up for it!
Service not great, no food menus on arrival, we had to re-order olives 3 times.
Enjoyed another first class breakfast at Harry's - simply full marks all round!
My steak was really chewy and my friend was pink when she ordered medium rare. I didnt enjoy that. The other food ordered by my friends were really good though. The ambience was very good. We went for lunch midweek so it wasn't busy and my friends and I loved it.
First time there went for brunch as we could
Not get in on the Saturday night.
Well worth a visit if you can get in!
Very helpful, polite staff who answered all our food questions and went to find answers when they weren't sure. The food selection was lovely, the flat iron steaks were absolutely delicious (especially with the chimichirri sauce).
We loved the building and were interested to hear that it had been a stonemasons place. Perhaps it would be nice to display some information about the history of the building around (& old photos) because it has such an interesting heritage.
As visitors passing through the area we would love to drop in again when on our way to Cornwall.
Steak was amazing, worth every penny!! would recommend to anyone.
Sat beside a large table of 13, and it was extremely noisy given the confined table layout. Food was good, but wasn’t worth the final bill.
Brilliantly decorated and laid out. Great menu which will leave you torn.
A great establishment with a nice vibe. Staff helpful and friendly, great menu choice and tasty food. Thank you
Great food, great service! Simple... Would go back at the drop of a hat!
Lovely restaurant, plenty of good choices on the menu including plenty of steak and fish options. Especially appreciated the attention to detail from the staff who were extremely considerate concerning a food allergy I have. A very well deserved five stars.
Lovely restaurant. Loved the ambiance and decor. Food and service overall was good - loved the starters & drink selection. However, the meat was not great - steak chewy & thin / pulled pork very dry & the service (considering it wasn’t super busy) wasn’t as good as I expected. Waited quite some time to order a drink after being seated & even then it was only because I caught a member of staffs eye.
Hi Steph, Thanks for taking the time to review us; we really are sorry we didn’t live up to your expectations on this occasion. Our aim is always to provide friendly service and delicious food in a comfortable setting. At this stage we can only apologise for the main courses and the tardiness of drinks service. We hope to welcome you back again in the future. Harry's
Went to Harry's fo my birthday meal on24th June. Was quiet when we arrived as table booked for 6:45, service was good although we felt we were being rushed a little. Food was very nice , however literally 2 hours after eating I felt very unwell, was sick and going to the loo several times. It is now Wednesday and I am just starting to recover, so obviously put off going there again. May have been the Lamb Tagine as otherwise my partner and I had the same to eat.
Hi Joy, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are really sorry to hear reports that you were unwell after dining with us. If at all possible we would like to follow this up so would like to contact you directly and get further details (to this end I have also sent a private message). It is our policy to treat all potential food complaints with the utmost importance; we have rigorous processes in place and hope to get to the bottom of this as soon as possible. Harry’s
Amazing meal and atmosphere you need to branch over to Torbay!!
Excellent food and a lovely feel to the restaurant, I will definitely be returning!
We had a great family meal for our 12 year olds birthday- his choice!! Think it might be the Harry’s heart attack that swung it! We’ll be back
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Good food, nice atmosphere, great place for an evening out. It was busy so the noise level was pretty high.
I took a neighour for lunch here, having never been before. It has had a massive refurb last summer and is absolutely gorgeous inside. Lots of space around tables, really lovely. We had great service throughout, not at all rushed. We ended up having 4 starters instead of 2 mains. Portions were really generous and the food was exceptional. The beef carpaccio and cheese arancini were particularly stand-out amazing. A wonderful place off the beaten track just behind John Lewis - can't believe I haven't been before!
Food was delicious. Really enjoyed every single thing that appeared. Children kept commenting on how nice and smiley the staff were and have deemed it their new favourite place to eat. Really pleased at a very good meal.
I began my meal with their asparagus starter accompanied by prosciutto, parmesan and a poached egg (which was overcooked). This was a substantial and tasty beginning, although it was a pity about the poached egg. I then moved on to the chateaubriand, which was cooked rare as requested - this was shared with my dining companion and came with French fries, a large grilled mushroom, rocket, a tomato (not really necessary) and a pot of béarnaise sauce. It was served on a wooden board and arrived, ready carved. Excellent! We drank a bottle of Argentinian Malbec with the steak which complemented it perfectly. I did not have a dessert or coffee. My half-share of the bill came to £72 (including the wine).
Harry’s has a friendly character atmosphere! The food was very reasonably priced and extremely tasty!
Good place to meet. Varied menu and lovely atmosphere. Need to book at busy times.
It has become my favourite place to eat in Exeter.
Our food was excellent and we particularly enjoyed the cocktails we had. We thought the choice of food was very good, particularly for me as a vegetarian. The service we received was very friendly but not over the top. We enjoyed our meal at Harry's and would come again.
We all had a brilliant evening the food was cooked to perfection! They certainly know how to cook a good steak and their supplier of meat really must be good as this was the best steak I’ve had for many years ! My Husband and I shared the 18oz T-bone we are in our 60/70’s and knew we couldn’t manage on our own! It’s huge and so tender and flavoursome! My son had the Rump Pave which he said amazing ! The service is great all the sides were delicious ! You need to book as it’s very popular especially at the weekend ! We booked about a month ago and could only get in at 6pm however we didn’t leave until nearly 9pm ! So the table is yours for the evening , which I like ! Best place in Exeter !
The food was very good and the service was polite and friendly. We would certainly book again.
Nice ambiance, busy but not to noisy. Service was good and the staff friendly. Had Natchos to start which were very good, followed by spare ribs which a bit dry but were tasty. Would happily eat there again.
Great ambience good food really impressed will definitely be going back. Joint Camembert starter was fantastic
Excellent food and service as always!
Great atmosphere and friendly vibe!
Nice restaurant slightly overpriced.
Lovely food, lovely staff. We had a really comfortable corner booth and were able to spend a few hours there enjoying the culinary experience
Simple. Best restaurant in Devon on so many levels.
Love Harry's, have been going there since it opened. Always wonderful food and service. I always tell people about Harry's and still amazes me that not everyone knows it's there but friends and colleagues are impressed as I am once they visit. Have eaten in the Guildhall and Princesshay but always end up going back to Harry's as the best place to eat in Exeter. Now only really eat out a handful of times a year for birthdays and special occasions and always go to Harry's as so easy to book and really is worth it. Will continue to eat here as a special place and I really love that it is a family business that continues to be passed on to the next generation and deserves to survive. If you haven't been, then go as you won't be disappointed as varied menu, lovely staff who are attentive but not all over you, a real class act in every sense.
Visited Exeter with my son for the university open day. Glad to have found this restaurant and would definitely visit again!! Good value, lovely food and good service.
The food was very good but the service was wayyyy too slow. 20min to get a bowl of tortillas and guacamole.
Also there was no kid menu.
