What Insiders Are Saying
The Borough branch of the upmarket Hawksmoor steak palaces is every bit as accomplished as its siblings.
Great steak and beer - already looking forward to my next visit.
Whilst we enjoyed the food and service the atmosphere was lacking in an atmosphere, particularly when significant amount of money was being spent. There was a feeling that the original concept is gradually becoming a "commodity". I have visited the Guildhall venue several times and this was the first time in Borough.
I enjoyed the evening. Nice service but a few disappointments. One order was wrong and came back much later, as the other 3 of us were finishing. We tried eating slowly too! We didn’t get charged for the one meal, but I’d rather had paid and had the food on time. Toilets were flooded. Disgusting. Felt a little rushed, but they were busy. My biscuit desert was rubbish. Burnt biscuit with some sloppy chocolate. Yuck. Overall, service made the evening. I would go back, but just for mains, and a nice glass or two of wine. Then on to somewhere else...
Very good, though a little pricey.
Easy Access with underground. Interior quite standard, no personality.
Food was good and service as well.
My fiancé’s birthday
The best steak in town, hands down! And the scallops are amazing
Great staff, food and selection of wines. Really made the evening.
Unfortunately disappointing! Great service is not backed up by great food. Choice cuts of meat where overly salted to make them inedible. We actually had to leave it unfinished. It was just too much salt! Really ruined what should have been a top notch experience. We fed back to the waiter, but his response was that their meat was salted. I pointed out that salting to bring out the taste is good, but over salting ruins it, but it fell on deaf ears - no apologies, apparently no s**t given!
Excellent all round. The bill can add up swiftly, but the food is faultless. Great atmosphere and perfect service.
We had a lovely lunch at Hawksmoor Borough - I had 3 courses from the express lunch menu and everything was great! The staff were friendly and helpful, the food delicious - will definitely recommend to all and return soon.
Our waiter, Sebastien, was fantastic, really kind and sociable guy. Did not put pressure on paying for more expensive food and let us take our time.
We came here for my 23rd birthday and Hawksmoor did not disappoint.
Food was Really good, I ordered the Rib Eye (med rare) with peppercorn sauce and it was great, flavourful and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend ordered the set menu, with Yorkshire puds and grilled Hake which was delicious. Sides of creamed spinach and beef dripping fries were so damn good in and of themself. Dessert was amazing, would have to recommend the peanut butter shortbread 100%, easily the best dessert & better than the chocolate + buttermilk icecream.
Overall I was stuffed. I am 5’11, 75kg and was tempted to go for the 700g porterhouse and instead got the 400g ribeye. am really glad I went for something smaller. Next time I will avoid having lunch to make room to have the porterhouse.
Service was great as per.
Pricing was reasonable and worth the occasion. Felt like I got good value for money.
Overall this will be the restaurant I have special occasions for sure. Thanks to Sebastien our waiter who was great and all the staff who helped make my birthday a special day!
We went there for a second visit (the first being just after the grand opening). Wow. I must admit, everything has bedded in really well. From the greeting at the front desk to the folks serving at the table - the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly. There was excellent advice on hand about anything we cared to ask about. We ended up going for oysters to start and a Chateaubriand sharer as a main - everything was top quality and well prepared. The final price with cocktails and wine was a tad eye-watering but I have to say, worth every penny.
Outstanding food and service as to be expected from any hawksmoor!
10/10 out the park as usual so good man
Accommodated my wife and I last minute for anniversary supper while visiting London. Seated right away and exceptional service began. The steak was as good as I have ever had and the sides did not disappoint. Don’t miss a chance to eat here
Amazing as always, I would always highly recommend Hawksmoor! The one in Bourough is great!
Good food, good service, relaxed and pleasant atmosphere- very good value.
Was very much looking forward to my first Sunday Roast, but left feeling rather disappointed.
I noticed on our way out that people who were eating the beef Sunday Roast had 2 slices, where I only had one, which actually was about 60% just non edible fat.
So I pretty much had just potato’s on my plate and a rather large Yorkshire pudding.
We had a fabulous meal at Hawksmoor Borough. The crab starter was phenomenal, so delicious. The steaks are always cooked to perfection and the mash was very naughty but worth all the calories! Great cocktails & our waiter couldnt of been more friendly and helpful. We will be returning!
Everyone was super friendly and the food was great.
DELICIOUS food, relaxed atmosphere, wonderful service. The perfect evening :-) Thank you
Quite disappointed with this place. I expected a steak that would be the best I've ever tasted but to be fair I've had better at a lower cost.
To the credit of the restaurant the staff were excellent, just wish my steak could have been better.
All good except the ambiance. Not where I’d take a date again. Lighting and furniture are like you’re eating in an old school. Bizarre interior decoration choices. Not my cup of tea. But food was good and service amazing.
Fantastic experience at Hawksmoor!
Food was absolutely delicious, steak was perfect and their homemade ketchup is a must try!
Service was attentive and friendly. It was my husbands birthday and I requested a candle on his dessert but unfortunately he was too full. However, they still brought out a plate of delicious rolos which said happy birthday on it, which I thought was very kind.
Absolutely fantastic evening celebrating our anniversary. We felt welcome and attended to the moment we enter and were given excellent advice by our amazing waiter Steven. He was a joy all night and recommended a wonderful wine.
The steak was out of this world and it just cant be beat.
We will be back.
This was my first visit to Hawksmoor despite dining regularly in London. I was extremely impressed with the food and ambience. I was also impressed with the service until it came to the bill. I asked the waitress to split the bill. I paid my half but then realised she had overcharged me. I pointed this out and asked her to amend it on my friend’s bill. I presumed that this had been done as she said ‘oh okay’ and just walked away. However there no acknowledgement and no apology. We felt as if we were an inconvenience. Despite this, as the food was good, we will probably return.
Excellent steak, cooked perfectly. Sides and cocktails were excellent too, and they have a great selection of wines and spirits. This Hawksmoor (Borough) had a much more comfortable and casual feel than the one on air Street (near picadilly circus) with friendlier staff so I enjoyed this one more. It's a bit pricey but well worth it for the quality.
Great food & restaurant
Service very efficient and friendly
Service and food we're exceptional. Only thing of note was the noise level,in our case due to a big group sitting just behind us.
Absolutely fabulous place to have Sunday lunch. Service was great and the food was fantastic.
Great food as always, if I could I would have given the service 6 stars. It was our first visit to Borough as we normally go to Seven Dials. It was every bit as good as CG with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Many thanks to Jack for taking the time to come and have a chat with us.
Went to Hawksmoor for my wife's 30th birthday at the weekend and had a perfectly cooked Sirloin steak. I would not hesitate in recommending this restaurant to anyone.
We went for an early meal after a theatre matinee and got the express menu. Absolutely huge caesar salad to start - the best I have ever had - and then delicious, perfectly cooked hake with mash. The service wasn't quite as seamless as at the other Hawksmoor branches I have been to, but the food and drinks are exemplary, and at 6pm on a Saturday it's a very peaceful environment. And the express menu is excellent value for money.
It’s Hawksmoor - always brilliant
We had a lovely pretheatre dinner at Hawksmoor Borough. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was simple and really well done. Would definitely return.
Loved the wine, service and location. A little disappointed with my steak which whilst tasted ver good the cut was on the tough to cut
We welcomed by friendly staff, and were looked after by lovely waitress Sophie. She played her part in an enjoyable evening. In all honesty the food is good with good menu ideas, but I thought a little overpriced. The steak sadly did not have much fat on it. However it was a very pleasant dine out
Amazing food. Best steak and chips I have had for a long time. Service and environment is average though
