Staff were very friendly and helpful - picking up on our occasion as a birthday dinner and surprised with a little ‘Happy Birthday’ chocolate treat.
We had a chateau briand and rib of beef to share between 5 and it was a perfect mix of different steaks - excellent quality and cooked to perfection.
We loved the building itself and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an excellent steak dinner.
Came for the steak, it lived up to the hype. It is pricey but who doesn’t like to push the boat out every once in a while?
Dependable trencherman's grub and manages to be reliably good, despite being a chain.
Lovely place for a fantastic steak. Always have to go for the potted beef and Yorkshire’s to start.
Lovely chance to celebrate my birthday with a couple of mates. Touch loud so difficult to hear but that’s just me getting old!
No one at reception desk for lunch at 1. 5 mins I chase someone on restaurant to seat us, place is half empty.
Waiter spills drink on me.
Other waiter later walks by and kicks chair, stumbles then proceeds to pull up a chair and tell us about her warm up dancing before service. Yes my client is well impressed.
Steal ordered med/rare comes med/well. The lunch is too far gone to save so I don’t send back.
Order coffees and rolos; taste lovely but presented like a first rounder off bake off.
All in all a shocker. Save your money. Go elsewhere.
Excellent steaks and good selection of wine. efficient service, better than that from sommelier. Great venue, subdue atmosphere - which suited.
Lively upbeat place with good food and outstanding service
Excellent steak and restaurant, but comes at it’s price
Everything was great aside from the time it took to be served our food.
Delicious food with really friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would definitely go back
Had a Sunday roast ... was the best roast I’ve had, even beating a home cooked roast which is the ultimate test. Excellent, attentive service. Busy, bustling restaurant. 10/10
Absolutely fantastic as ever. We visit as a large group of friends once a year, were accommodated with the table, the food was delicious as always, and the service supreme. Frieda was particularly accommodating, helpful, advising each of our party on the cuts available, even when a glass was accidentally knocked, there were no issues at all and it was a brilliant, joyful day. thanks- we will be back- again!
Great service & wonderful food. Very busy, but ambience still pretty good. Highly recommend the roast beef dinner & the ice cream for dessert!
The lighting is too dim, very crowded and noisy.
Excellent service from our waiter French guy originally from Barcelona.
Food good but you'd expect that at those prices
First time at Hawksmoor very impressed always willing to pay good money for good food and you didn't let us down .Waiter was friendly helpful and informative.
Will definately return .
The provenance of the grass-fed and carefully raised beef results in a very flavourful steak. Fast and friendly service, a comfortable and congenial atmosphere amidst the old wood and soft lighting, sides and desserts also very tasty. This is traditional rather than adventurous cuisine with the steaks in a starring role. We got exactly what we came for.
Amazing top quality food, service and atmosphere would highly recommend
Beautifully cooked steak as always with attentive but not overbearing service. We will be back.
Great for a dedicated meat eater - good steaks with a great ambiance. Greeted at the entrance with smiles and a choice of where to sit. Cocktails were ok but mainly ice. Waiters attentive without being overbearing but obviously trained to get the max out of you. Nothing wrong with that!
Being based close to your restaurant I visit reasonably regularly. Indeed on the 22nd of August I had a great meal in the evening before catching a flight. I visited yesterday with my girlfriend as she fancied a steak. Previously the service had been expemplary and on my last visit Max had been great. Yesterday I found the service more in tune with a hipster joint than an upmarket steakhouse. In speaking to Max I had asked how the Hawksmoor competed with all the new independent steakhouses popping up around here and over the bridge. He replied by making sure the customer had a first rate and individual experience while dining. That was massively missing yesterday. No eye contact, no real sense of understanding the menu, no sense of engagement. It was disappointing.
outstanding food, great location and not as expensive as first thought
We were attracted to Hawksmoor's Monday offer to take your own wine for £5 corkage so
after an evening at the National Theatre we went to their Borough Market restaurant. We chose
from the post-theatre menu, I had hake and my husband had a steak, all washed down with our
bottle of Pinot. The service and ambiance, not to mention the food, were all excellent. We
will do this again!
Excellent steak and perfectly cooked vegetables. Service was polite and efficient. Thank you!
Fantastic food with great service you couldn’t ask for anything more
Our server was a bit pretentious and only became more pleasant as we ordered more things to increase our tab. It was as if he was not interested in providing a good experience unless his service charge would be higher. The food was magnificent.
We have tested chateaubriant, filet and ribeye... are verygood.. juicy and flavour top!!
The food was amazing as always. The service brilliant and just the overall feel of the restaurant makes you feel at ease. We will definitely be back!
My partner and I have tried almost all the branches of Hawksmoor in the UK and are regular patrons at your restaurants. However, we hadn't tried the Borough branch, which we visited last night (Sat 31st Aug). We had an utterly lovely evening and both the staff and the food were of the excellent standard we have come to expect from your restaurants.
The reason for my email is down to two exceptional members of staff. Approximately three years ago, my husband had a birthday dinner with friends at the Seven Dials branch and we had a surprisingly poor experience which we emailed about. This email, and the subsequent response from Hawksmoor must have been on file; as a member of staff at Borough noticed it, read it and realised we has not taken up your offer of a free meal.
When we asked for the bill, both Jen and Frida came over to our table to explain they had seen the issue on our file and were discounting our meal as a consequence. At first I assumed she had the wrong table, until she explained about the email. The attention to detail, focus and consideration blew me away and I was incredibly pleased with the service. It was very clear they felt confident in their authority to issue this discount as you have clearly established an excellent level of autonomy in your managerial structures and have established a trusting a respectful work environment.
We have returned to Hawksmoor many times since the Seven Dials experience and our very lovely meal at Borough became doubly delightful because of the time taken to consider each and every customer (despite it being another branch) and the decisions made by the team.
Whilst all the staff we encountered at Borough were professional and delightful, it was Jen and Frida who should be rewarded and commended.
Had an absolutely fantastic evening celebrating birthdays and our anniversary! Food was probably the best meal I've ever had, the servers were super friendly and helpful. Can't wait for the next occasion to come back!
Really great place, wonderful atmosphere staff are really friendly and helpful food was amazing
First time at Hawksmoor Borough after attending Seven Dials on numerous occasions. Same impeccable service, food and atmosphere as we’ve come to expect from the Hawksmoor chain. I can not fault any part of our experience !!!!!
Beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was spot on and the service was exceptional. Could not reccomended more@
As always, a wonderful meal with delicious food, friendly and attentive service, a comfortable atmosphere, and the seasonal menu is great value for money. Hawksmoor does dining right!
Amazing service with brilliant food. Really helpful staff.
This is the worse of all Hawksmoor I have been to in London. Covent Garden being the best.
We were massively upsold from ribeye to one on-the-bone but rather than 400g each it would be 1kg. Then when we ordered they said they made a mistake and only a 1.1kg was available. Interestingly when we said "no, too much!" they micarulously found a 1Kg steak! I rather feel like this was some kind of con. Anyway they then asked if we wanted on or off the bone. I just do not trust that this was cooked on the bone and the medium steak came very medium and massively over salted.
Bearnaise was too think and tiny portion. Chips were good but only because I asked them to be well done. Normal triple cooked chips looked positively bland. Creamed spinach was good but very small portion.
Overall very very expensive and I felt rather conned.
I will not be returning to this Hanksmoor but will to Covent Garden and only for an individually cooked ribeye.
Borough, you may have the name but you need to step-up your game!
Awesome meat quality.
Good wine list.
Great time and will be back.
Great food....plenty of character! One of my favourite spots!
Good place for tasty beef and nice staff !
