What Insiders Are Saying
The Borough branch of the upmarket Hawksmoor steak palaces is every bit as accomplished as its siblings.
Poor food for the money very disappointed as steak too salty. The meat seemed like it had been out for awhile
The food was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful we brought our 2 year old and they were very accommodating in regards to ordering from the menu for her.. we would defiantly recommend this restaurant to everybody great for special occasions
Consistently excellent steaks. I have never had a bad steak here.
The service was great and the food was amazing, steak cooked perfectly. The bone marrow was lovely.
The Hawksmoor never fails to impress, and the Borough Market branch is a great addition to a fantastic chain. This location feels a bit cozier than some of the other locations, due to the room layout. The staff were amazingly friendly and efficient, and very kindly gave us a few free chocolates with the words “Happy Anniversary” written, with chocolate, on the plate. I was pleasantly surprised by that, as I’d forgotten I noted that when making the reservation.
As for the food: my taste might be very traditional, but I think it’s impossible to beat a rare fillet steak with bone marrow gravy, a side of grilled bone marrow, triple cooked chips, sprouts with beef butter, and a nice bottle of wine! Oh - and definitely try the full-fat old fashioned, as the buttered bourbon they use is simply to die for. It’s one of the best old-school cocktails I’ve ever had.
We had the express menu and it was incredible. The rump steak was cooked perfectly. The gem was the peanut butter shortbread dessert, wow! Will definitely go again.
I’ve been to quite a few of the hawksmoor branches and this has been my worst experience. The food was fine but the service was poor this time. We had to get the attention of a waiter to take our order even after asking the sommelier to send someone over. The pouring of the wine was a bit slack. It puts a dampener on a business lunch.
Delicious. Faultless meal
Excellent service and great food. The steaks are great and I highly recommend the tunworth mash.. incredible! Bit pricey for average people like us to go too often but a great place for a special occasion.
SUPERB!!!! Probably one of the best meals I have ever had! I knew it would be good so actually didn't eat too much during the day because I knew I wanted to devour every morsel of that food and boy did I enjoy it (together with a little bit too much wine after 3 pints but hey it was my birthday after all!). The waiter that served us was utterly brilliant and really knowledgable about the food and wine and was really attentive. Had a great night despite being a little worse for wear when I left. Thank you Hawksmoor! Best steaks in London no doubt!
Still hands down the best steak in London. We went there on a Monday, which is bring your own wine, so a quick pick up from the wine merchant next door, makes this very good value. Pork ribs to start, selection of steaks between us, with fantastic sides, followed by festive mince pies means this is a winner all round. Can't wait to go back.
Excellent chateaubriand with creamed spinach and greens on the side. Attentive, knowlegeable and relaxed waiters.
Came on a whim on a Sunday evening with a friend. The roast was delicious and service was good for a busy evening. I have been many times and will be back.
This is the third time I've been too kawksmoor borough market ( six overall if we include their other locations) and each time is still as good as the last. The food is amazing from starter to dessert, the staff are always helpful and kind and always help with drink pairing for the food. The restaurants always give you a sense of being warn and cosey almost like home. One thing I was upset about was that my favourite cocktail he clear water espresso is no longer on their menu BUT that being said my night was definitely not spoiled :)
I really wanted to love my first experience of Hawksmoor, but was found seriously wanting more. The service was absolutely appalling. The only thing we received without having to ask for it was the menus. We had to wave someone down for absolutely everything. We would have had more of everything if it hadn't been so painful. Our white wine was placed away from our table in a secret location, so we even had to ask for that to be topped up each time. We would have had another bottle between us had we not been rationed! There were plenty of staff rushing around but there did not appear to be any method to the madness and chaos that buzzed around the restaurant. The food however was amazing, just a shame they don't stock up on smaller hunks of steak. They must have known the number of guests already booked for that night, not everyone wants to eat a piece of meat the size of their head! The rolo chocolate dessert is to die for.
Have been to a few of the big steak restaurants and this one is definately number 1 on my list.
Amazing, fantastic food & ambience. Would definitely go again
Great meal as always. Steak cooked to perfection. Excellent service. A 10/10 experience.
Great food and great service 👌🏼
Food was excellent, service was friendly and efficient. Will definitely return or try one of the other restaurant locations.
The ribs to start were great but the whole chicken was boring in flavour and the steak wasn’t particularly good. The dessert was very good though.
Good service but expensive.
Amazing food and fabulous service. Highly recommended!
Been a few times now and this place always meets and exceeds my expectations. The Steak was superb as were the sides. The cocktails are fantastic and the Irish coffee was superb. It's expensive but you get wat you pay for. The service is super friendly too
Had a very enjoyable dinner with a few work colleagues... we had great service, great food and first class service! Can’t wait to go back
Amazing. A menu that's stayed pretty stable for years, so I knew what I was going to order, Porterhouse was on point, as were the scallop starters. If you haven't been, go. If you've been before, go again.
SLOW. The flowery shirted people were SLOW. Really SLOW. In fact Slow AF.
we missed our train due to their ...
Went looking for a Sunday roast and found one. Both starters were good. The roasts were good with perfectly cooked greens.
Amazing steak experience, honestly the best steak in London.
What I particularly like about Hawksmoor is the service - when I book there I know no matter what happens I'll be treated well. We had an issue where a piece of fish really was over seasoned to the point of being so salty it was nearly inedible (dropping the food score down from it's normal high). However, the staff couldn't have been more helpful when we mentioned it to them. They really did go out of their way to fix the situation, turning what could've been a spoiled evening into a wonderful experience.
Thanks again to the team!
One of the mains was fish which still had some innards left. One of the two medium-rare steaks was more rare than the rare steak I had ordered. Not once were we asked how our meal was, the person having the fish didn't want to ruin our evening. It used to be much better.
We visited for my husbands birthday lunch. he doesn't like over fussy food but likes to try something different. The staff were superb and very great when we asked for advice. Food was very yummy.
This was a special occasion meet up in London with a friend and I’ve wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. The staff were exceptionally friendly and charming. It wasn’t the high powered foody place that I’d slightly worried that it might be. V ordinary people, just like us, coming in for lunch. The food was good and the atmosphere and decor understated and relaxing. My only gripe, and it continues to niggle, is that I ordered a ribeye steak to be cooked rare. The waitress triple checked that this is what I really wanted. I do understand why, because this cut is usually cooked more than this because of the fat. But I like ribeye and I like it rare: some of us meat eaters know what we like. What did I get? Charred steak, blackened on the outside and medium cooked, not even medium rare. Somewhere there is a chef who reckons she knows better than I do what I wanted. Why didn’t I say anything? Well, I wish I had. But once it’s cooked you can’t uncook it. I should have pointed this out, at least, I know. This place has a good reputation and I suppose that I didn’t feel up to speaking out. Funny thing is that my local restaurants have no problem in cooking to order. But I hope to visit again and the test that this place passes is that I’d be happy to eat here on my own. There was a family with two very young and well behaved children in high chairs, which I think indicates the type of place this is.
Francis (our waitress) was amazing and really looked after us. Extremely knowledgable and overall had a great energy and personality.
We had a lovely evening at Hawksmoor. One of our party was late and then didn’t arrive but they were very flexible with the table. Cocktails are wonderful and the champagne very reasonable
Great steaks cooked to perfection. The waiter was really professional and knowledgeable. He brought us a book with all the cuts and anticipated our needs. Very good dinning experience
Fillet steak medium rare was very average.
Beef dripping fries that are supposedly “cooked in beef dripping” tasted like oven chips.
Seating arrangement was crammed and very canteen like. It did not feel like a premium experience (Hawksmoor borough)
Certainly not worth the £150 I paid.
Churning customers in and out like a big machine and charging extortionate prices whislt doing so.
Good venue, good atmosphere, good staff. However our Chataubriand we ordered for four was tasty but far too dry. Also beef dripping chips looked and tasted like string fries with no taste - thrice cooked chips were excellent. Not sure we would return to this branch but may try another.
Great , although none of the steaks where “hot” more on the cold side , and quite expensive . But I would return as my fillet was quite delicious. Everyone enjoyed there meals . Staff treated us amazingly and cracked some funny jokes and explained the steaks perfectly
Both Hawksmoor Borough and air street are by far the best from the group. Staff, Steak and ambiance beats the rest.
It was my birthday, it was expensive but worth it
