The Sunday Roasts are delicious and great value for money!
Food and service was outstanding as well as the venue. We went for my partners Birthday and we were looked after very well. My only suggestion for improvement could be for at least one side to be included in the main meal other than that everything was more than perfect 👌
Great food and a good setting, service was very attentive although parts of our order where missed. This was rectied and removed from our bill.
All in all a really enjoyable evening out
Absolutely excellent meal and very professional staff who clearly take pride in the restaurant. Cannot wait to return!
Never dined there before but only heard good things. We were given a warm welcome as our coats were taken. Seating was warm and comfortable. Our servers were knowledgeable, polite and charismatic. The food was lovely and the pacing of the meal was spot on. Would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
The food was lovely but the wine markup was way too high. No need for this.
Excellent food in a beautiful refurbished banking hall. Service was professional and prompt. Steak was great. Wine is quite expensive, but good quality. Will visit again.
From the moment you arrive, the service is professional, friendly and efficient. We're always spoilt for choice with the menu - twice the poor waiter asked if we were ready but my hubby couldn't decide!!! The food was excellent, tasty starters then I had the rump, which was beautifully lean and perfectly cooked, and my hubby had the hake which was very tasty and a good size piece (hubby always moans about the portion sizes of fish in restaurants, but was impressed with the piece here!).
They have an excellent drinks menu and a good choice of wines. The only thing I would say is the wines are a bit too much on the pricey side, so where the food was good value, I wouldn't say the same about the wine. But it is excellent wine!!!
It's in an excellent location and I love the style of the place - some beautifully engraved windows, I assume from it's days as a bank. Highly recommended.
Very poor table service 3 times they brought other tables food to ours and then got our drinks all wrong and served us look warm water so had to ask for ice in general the staff didn't seem to no what they were doing food was ok but definitely would not return or reccomed very dissapointed
Some highlights in food but steak really average and £15 for 3 scallops too pricey along with the drinks.
Service started well and then collapsed, and it was not at all busy! Sorry, can't really recommend.
Special lunch with my wife
The food, service and place itself were all absolutely wonderful! Really made the perfect ending to our stay in Edinburgh!
The steak was melt-in-the-mouth delicious, and the service was super friendly. I expected the restaurant to be a bit fancy and stuffy, but it was casual without compromising on service and food quality. The cocktails were also nice!
The Sunday roast dinner was lovely and very good value.
Food was great, really enjoyable. Service was poor though, very slow, had to repeatedly ask for things and sat with our plates for 20 mins after finishing meal.
We were made very welcome on arrival and asked if we wanted to have a drink at the bar before dinner which was exactly what we had in mind. There was no time pressure and we just had to let the bar person know that we were ready and were taken straight to our table. We were given very good advice both on the cocktail list at the bar and also by the waiter who went through the menu with us. It was a birthday celebration dinner and we were looked after extremely well.
A wonderful night, outstanding food, cocktails and service. Highly recommend it.
One of the best steaks I have had. A rare 350g Ribeye (12ish ounces) just about had me beat! Just about - there was no way I was leaving any of it. When I saw it was £28 for a Ribeye I thought it was a bit dear but it was massive and worth every penny. I will definitely be back at Hawkesmoor in the near future.
Really enjoyed our first trip to Hawksmoor will definitely recommend to friends - I think overall price is a bit high for eg fillet steak and then extra for a sauce, chips and eg spinach - but thoroughly enjoyed rhs meal - restaurant was a little quiet for the first part of our meal but we could only get a 6pm table so the ambience improved as more customers arrived
Great food and really good service, it’s not cheap but you get what you pay for, don’t mind paying a lot when it’s really good
Food and drinks were excellent! We found the waiting staff a bit patronising.
Excellent food and service, thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will be back
Steak was the tastiest we have had in Scotland! Ever. It was lovely. All the food was fantastic and the service is really friendly too.
Was really looking forward to our visit. Starters were excellent but the steak although tasty was ‘alone’ on the plate. EVERYTHING was an extra and at around £5 a one person portion the food did not justify the price. Wines were all very mediocre at the £40 price bracket. Just plumped for 1 after trying 3, none of which we liked. All in all disappointing.
We had a delightful Monday afternoon the staff could not do enough for us one of staff even popped out the the shops for us the food was amazing
We were a group of 12, we booked the private dining room and chose the menu in advance. We had a great evening, good food m, good wine and competent service. Would definitely come again!
Fantastic venue for a special occasion. Service is sublime as is the steak. I’d recommend ordering from the board which holds their daily cuts. We had a 600g fillet (medium rare) between the two of us and couldn’t fault it. P
My second visit to The Hawksmoor and it was every bit as good as the first. The venue is beautiful and the staff are always outstanding, always happy to help and fix problems we didn't even know we had! Though the Sunday roast was finished, we still had an amazing meal and the cocktails were fantastic. Can't wait for my next visit!
The food is excellent but the wine is overpriced for a very average tasting Rioja
The service was very slow, half hour before we had a drink! The waitress took our food order before offering a drink infact I asked if we could order one. I was at the loo and my husband asked about something on the menu and she said she wanted to wait until everyone at the table so she didn’t repeat herself. It was my birthday so not impressed. Food lovely though. We also had to chase bill up at end too.
Had lunch on a Sunday. Enjoyable experience overall, but steak was not as warm as I would have liked. I did not complain, but I did mention this to the server when he asked. I was MOST impressed with the steps he took to remedy the situation. This level of customer service ensures return business.
My partner and myself were at Hawksmoor on Saturday evening and will most def be back! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. All waitresses were friendly and we did not feel rushed through our meal like other places we have ate. Great atmosphere and a very laid back feel. Loved it!!
This is the second time I've been to Hawksmoor and again it did not disappoint. There were a couple of things that honestly I didn't think we're as good the second time round though. The crab toast starter was still delicious, but much smaller than the first time there, and the steak sauce (£2 extra) came in a ramekin this time and felt like it came out of a jar, rather than homemade, like the first time. It was also served in a lovely little pot the first time so whether they'd just ran out of these, I don't know. The ambiance and food was delicious though and our steaks cooked and seasoned to perfection.
Poor service and over priced - food was just ok
We did get a bottle of wine for the poor service.
Yes, but there are many other good steak restaurants in Edinburgh. It may not be my first choice. Staff were great.
Lovely evening spent at the Hawksmoor for a date night! Amazing food and cocktails with attentive and friendly staff
My second visit and proof the first fabulous visit wasn’t just good luck!! The dishes are delicious, especially the deserts, the wine is very reasonable, the building is beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxing yet lively. But what really makes Hawksmoor so good and me sooooo desperate to go back is the fabulous service I’ve received. I find the staff simply wonderful!! I want to work beside them they’re so lovely, attentive, helpful and happy!! X
The best steak I’ve ever eaten! Yes, it’s pricey but for a special occasion I would definitely go back.
Nothing wrong with the service, perfectly pleasant and efficient. I was really disappointed - we were seated towards the back of the restaurant (from the West Register St side) - I felt it was dark, dingy and noisy, we were also seated right next to the pass which I didn't like. I thought it was going to be rather opulent and elegant, instead I just felt like I was having lunch in a warehouse.
