Beautiful setting and comfortable seating. We went twice while in town which is not something we normally would do.
Drinks we ordered were slow to arrive so the service was a little slow at the beginning, but we had no issues with the food service. Our waiter was personal and friendly, but sadly his shift was over before we finished our food & we didn't see him again. We both enjoyed our meals but found the lack of a uniform or standard dress for the waiting staff a bit disappointing in such a classy restaurant.
The building and interior is beautiful and the table and seating is very comfortable. The wine list is extensive and we had a lovely bottle of red. The roasts came presented really nicely (love the roasted garlic) and the meat was delicious. However, there was a small hair in my meal and when I pointed this out to the man that cleared our table he just laughed and offered me a dessert. Excluding this we had a good experience.
Had a great meal only thing that spoiled it was the frozen ‘McDonald’s ‘ like fries. Wine was pricey for a good bottle but overall had a lovely meal and would go back.
Beautiful food, great wine and amazing atmosphere. A perfect evening
We booked a table for 20.30 on a Saturday evening. We were with friends and not in a hurry. Our table was held up by almost an hour, however, we were showered with complimentary food and drinks (two rounds of cocktails and starters, then later- sauces for the steaks and chocolates with the bill) until our table was ready.
Staff were on hand throughout, but in a relaxed and friendly manner- not overbearing. They spent time with us explaining the steaks and trying to get our mains order right.
It was an expensive night- even with all the complimentary goods- but it was fun, relaxed and the food was good. We had two large steaks and 6 sides between four of us and this was sufficient. Would return for an occasion.
First time visit. Excellent all round. From arrival to being seated and throughout evening. Service was the right tone, friendly and helpful. Food delicious. Chateaubriand the star. Good wine and drink accompaniments. Not cheap but for an occasion or treat highly recommend.
Every time we come back to Edinburgh we end up here. Never disappoints. Food is outstanding along with the friendly, attentive staff. Love this place.
Make sure to try their Mac & Cheese and triple cooked chips.
Don’t forget the stick toffee pudding at the end either.
As always everything was excellent. We were with friends who had not been before but they plan to go back.
Met Ervin who was so so wonderful. Gave my husband and I a glorious quiet booth. Our server she was fun and lovely attentive and recommended a desert wine for me. We were not hurried although we should have been as we were the last to leave. Thank you so do much.
Superb meal. Best fillet steak ever. Made all the more enjoyable by our waitress/server Annie who was most informative (it was our first visit to Hawksmoor) and anticipated our every need without being too intrusive. Wrong glass of wine brought for my husband but it was very palatable so no problem! Thankyou for a very enjoyable meal.
Outstanding service, our fantastic waiter brought various wines for me to try (so sorry we didn’t catch his name), and he was very knowledgable and helpful. The food was delicious, the roast was exquisite in particular. We are very impressed and have recommended to various friends and family to visit the Manchester branch which is closer. We will be returning soon!
My wife and I had a fantastic lunch on Sunday. The food was delicious, and great value for money. Service was superb also.
Great advice from both out servers regarding the main meal then the dessert. Very attentive and knowledgable. Steak was perfect. Friends’ dishes look led tasty too.
Only complain was being directed by signage to an entrance only to find it blocked off and having to walk all the way back when mentioned to reception they weren’t interested. Don’t mind the diversion did mine their lack of manners.
First time at Hawksmoor, Unfortunately our steaks were very fatty but the service was second to none and we we sorted out and for that reason we will try again soon. Pudding was delish.
It was okay. Just a bit of a ‘lads pub’ with decent food.
Excellent service and delicious food which is the perfect combination for any customer! I wouldn’t hesitate at recommending this restaurant to anyone. The express menu which is available at certain times of the day is also excellent value.
Book it and don’t miss out - you’ll be telling all your friends about your visit!
I've surprised myself here as I am not usually a big fan of steak but now I have been to Hawksmoor twice in five weeks. It is expensive, but the steaks are amazing. The Edinburgh venue is a lovely space, and the waiters very friendly without being over attentive. You do end up feeling as if it has been a special occasion - which it is. Great starters, nice sides. Haven't tried the puds, but I can recommend the homemade caramel 'rolos'. Have already been recommending it to friends.
The food was excellent, the best steak available in Edinburgh. The service was brilliant as well.
Booked Hawksmoor for our wedding anniversary dinner after it was recommended to us. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly hostess who congratulated us and showed us to or seats. The menu and cuts of steak were explained to us in a pleasant manner. We both had steak and it was just so tasty, not a piece of food left on our plates. Great wine selection too.
We had a brilliant meal at Hawksmoor. The Ceaser salad was huge and cheesy. The fish & steaks were tasty and delicious. Desert: apple pie & sundae we’re great too.
Completely amazing!! Excellent service and the food was incredible
We had a fantastic Sunday Roast here - the setting is gorgeous, the service was super and the food was incredible!
Amazing steaks and delicious seafood. Really Helpful friendly staff. Music was a bit loud but seemed to be corrected after a short while. Can feel a bit busy and crowded although they seem to time the booking so you aren’t wedged next to another table for long.
Expensive but worth it and good for a special occasion.
Quite literally the best steak we've ever had! This is how peppercorn sauce should be too!
Great waiting staff, attentive, friendly and relaxed.
Beautiful building that has been tastefully revived without trying to make it something that it isn't. Using its character to its advantage.
Nice little touch of homemade rolos for a birthday celebration when we couldn't manage puddings.
Second time here and pleased to say it was just as good second time round as the first visit. Absolutely faultless, every course cooked perfectly, great, discreet but attentive service, love the place, atmosphere great. 100% satisfied, can’t wait to go back again!
We had the express menu and expected smaller portion than you would get served at night? But not the case so go hungry. My husband had the hake and he said it was the best he had ever tasted.
Really lovely time and meal, only let down by the length of time getting the food which was over an hour. Great restaurant and meal, staff were friendly and great.
A real treat for us , it is expensive but the steaks were amazing . We will save up and visit again .
This was out 1 st Anniversary treat
We heard a lot of praise about this restaurant and unfortunately it did not meet the standards that were described to us. For the price that I paid I expect the highest quality of food and steak cooked to perfection but unfortunately this was not the case. I will not be returning to this resultant.
On the other hand the service staff were very friendly and helpful however once we received our food there was no check up until we were almost finished and I was unable to make any complaints until then.
Very disappointing as I had heard such great things and we had traveled from Newcastle to try this restaurant. Will be looking elsewhere when we return to Edinburgh in the future.
Server very friendly, nice manner with the kids. Monday night and brought a very decent Aussie shiraz to go with the steaks. Was our 19th anniversary and had put that in the booking but no mention by staff (not a big deal though), shame there were no oysters but perfect apart from that !
Dissapointed with toilets. No loo roll and toilet seat moving. Mentioned to staff member.
Lobster was a Bit pricey compared to other establishments. Langoustine starter very small.
Chips in dripping were nothing to rave about. Too thin and not as tasty as I thought they would be
Decent food, had better in other places for a similar price.
Very loud, no beer on tap and expensive.
On the upside, nice waitor who was very polite and looked after us very well.
Overall, better places near by for food and value.
Quality ingredients, cooked to perfection without feeling the need to be pretentious.
Steaks were excellent and cooked perfectly as ordered and the triple cooked chips were to die for.
Our evening was completely ruined by the position of our table. It was beside the door and was draughty. Also a table of 20 sat behind us and were very noisy. There was 4 of us. The table adjacent to ours was vacant as people refused to sit there and were relocated elsewhere. I asked a few times to be moved but we were refused. I even said we would sit at the bar or in the bar area. It was just awful. We could not hear ourselves speak so ended up not saying much and leaving. So very 😞 disappointed. Positioning of tables is important and it is not fair to be placed beside a noisy table where the noise is so loud you cannot hear the conversation. If we had been moved when I first asked it would have been much better. Instead we were just ignored. Our server was very nice but he had a big table to serve so we never received the service. The guy did his very best. There were plenty of other tables available. So very disappointed
We had visited Hawksmoor seven dials in London and were blown away with the quality of the steak, so we thought we'll get the same in their Edinburgh restaurant, unfortunately that wasn't the case, the quality and the way it was cooked was completely different which made for a very disappointing meal.
Delicious food, friendly staff, will definitely return, already recommended it.
We eat at Hawksmoor in Edinburgh fairly regularly and usually have a wonderful time but unfortunately I would say this was the worst meal we've had. The service wasn't great, the food was over seasoned and the steaks overcooked. Hopefully this was just a one-off and it will be back to its usual standard by our next visit
Best scallops I ever had, and also among the best T-bones I ever had. Excellent !!
Excellent food and good service . Reasonable value although I do think the steaks could be accompanied with a bit of garnish , say a tomato and mushroom. Fair enough having to order chips , but the steak looked so alone arriving on the plate . The lobster, crab and carpaccio were all lovely as were the sticky toffee sundae and Stilton .
