I’ve been also il London a love this place specially Sunday roast it’s delicious. All perfect
Had an excellent meal. I had a steak, very tender and tasted amazing, great sides, my husband had fish also very good, friend had the vegetarian meal also excellent, clean plates all round. great size helpings. we had the Californian red which was delicious.
Staff were knowledgable and on the ball.
Ambiance was buzzy and energetic, liked the decor in this magnificent building.
All in all very happy customers.
Defiantly recommend for a good dinner with friends.
Beautiful food and a great atmosphere. Staff very helpful, polite and made for an excellent dining experience
Before we arrived at the Hawksmoor, when I booked the table I advised I wanted a bottle of procecco to the table, when we got their we had to wait half an hour for it to come to the table and this was after we had asked our waiter to bring it.
Furthermore we had ordered our starters which was amazing and fast service, scallops and scampi was delicious! However when the mains came my filet steak was beautiful but my boyfriends tbone which he ordered medium rare as most definitely not, it was blue and barely cooked, we told the waiter who was really nice agreed and apologised for the inconvenience. We asked for the bill and they took my boyfriends steak of the bill which was really nice.
Overall the experience was fine but it’s the fine details which they lacked and a big experience which was my boyfriends steak was very much lacking how we they refunded that. Maybe it was a one off but still.
How we from the previous reviews the restaurant was really good we maybe just don’t get a good experience?
I’d been looking forward to coming to the Hawksmoor Edinburgh having had one of my Favourite meals ever at the Air St branch. on ordering my wife explained she was expecting and that she need the steak to be well done, the waiter offered to butterfly the steak so it was cooked thoroughly. When the food arrived quite some time later it was very pink and not butterflied as ordered. it went back to the kitchen but my food and our sides sat getting cold. When it did arrive it was so over done it was barely edible. My steak was average at best as were the desserts all in all really disappointing especially when you consider the cost of the meal.
We went to the Hawksmoor as I was given a voucher for my 50th birthday. We decided to use it to coincide with the xmas market and make a day of it. All was perfect until it came to settling the bill. I was told that the voucher had already been redeemed which it hadn't as it had been in a drawer since my birthday. As you can imagine it put a bit of a damper on our day which had been really good up till this point. After a few times of the waitress going away and people looking at us , I was told by the waitress that on this occasion they would honour the voucher. It still felt like we had somehow cheated and that I was basically at it. Not the experience I was expecting and I have to say would put me off going back. I happened to mention to friends that this had happened and to my surprise they had a similar experience with a voucher. Given that I know that my voucher had not been redeemed by myself or my partner i can only say that they have an issue their end with either staff redeeming voucher codes or they have an issue with voucher codes totally. As i said it was more embarrassing than anything else and did not make for a nice afternoon out.
Good service lighting a bit dim. Food good but difficult to price fish and sides should be included in price
Absolutely. Food was great, only disappointing part for me was that the steak was probably overdone for me but beautifully cooked and tasted great. Maple roasted vegetables were spot on. Served by a Greek lady (sorry forgot her name) and her services was excellent and attentive
Excellent night up to point we were wanting bill and to pay...and were left hanging as staff went off for end of night drinks! surely if bringing us the bill we'd want to pay for it too? bit of a shame evening ended like that. end to end service always appreciated especially given our bill.
Annual christmas trip to Edinburgh always like to have a special meal on one of the nights we are there so booked Hawksmoor. Would not recommend if you like romantic intimate dinning. Venue lacked any ambience or Christmas spirit was overcrowded and noisy and felt like I was in a school canteen. For what was essentially steak and chips served with no garnish or flair it was extremely disappointing and totally overpriced would not go back.
Staff very polite and helpful.food was amazing.the best fillet I have had in a long time
Cheerful, energetic and friendly staff. But you always manage to get something wrong! In this case forgetting to order our starters. I am bringing a party of 12 for lunch on Tuesday. Let’s see if you can provide flawless service then! I hope so!
We love Hawksmoor despite all of the!
The knowledge of the staff about the steaks and the wine was excellent. Good that staff are well-trained, and also very friendly. Timing could have been better in that our starters arrived before we had any wine. Lydia was particularly good.
The sirloin steaks were a little tougher than expected.
But overall it was a very enjoyable meal.
It was excellent. It always is. £25 corkage is very reasonable. Advice from staff on cut, cooking time and accompaniments was confident, accurate and useful. Great venue.
Excellent food & service would definatelty recommend to friends and will return in the future
Lovely dinner. But they need to reconsider about the background music as i’m not particularly sure punk rock music goes well with the setting.
I appreciate when at the festive season times get busy but we waited 40 min on our starter. We were told the bread board was on the house then we ordered the Sunday roast 10mins later the server came back to tell us it was sold out that our deserts were on the house!
Our server finished his shift before our meal was finished so when the bill arrived with the bread board and deserts still on it we paid our bill and left. Food was amazing and the restaurant is beautiful I’d definitely go back but possibly not when I know it would be very busy.
Best steak in Edinburgh. Service was excellent, beautiful building also
We enjoyed Sunday lunch and I think it was the best roast beef dinner I’ve ever had! Superb from start to finish. The sommelier - Michael was really helpful and the red wine was delicious. Service excellent- can’t wait to return.
After a 45 minute wait our food arrived. Both plates were just warm, therefore food was the same. My wife had ordered a burger, warm, overcooked and over seasoned with salt., chips I suspect were frozen I have tasted a better burger at burger King. I ordered the roast dinner.. This was extremely average most of the plate was taken up with the oversized Yorkshire pudding, with only 3 slices of beef.. Not value for money at all, over rated and overpriced, will not be back and certainly won't be recommend to anyone. My wife was celebrating her 65 th Birthday that day, and the highlight was supposed to be our lunch.. totally ruined
We were a party of 5 for lunch. We had booked a number of months before. Our table was left hand side of the entry way into the Restaurant. Throughout our meal the cold draft from the entrance was a constant irritation . One of our guests was in her 80’s. Maybe the Restaurant could put a curtain round the inner entrance to protect the heat inside the place and hinder air coming from the St A Sq entrance? We paid over £400.00 and will think again before returning .
Top food and top service once again. Every person knows what they’re on about, whether that be wine, food or cocktails. Had a great evening.
Great food, rib eye steaks were perfectly cooked. The service was quick and staff were helpful. The music was slightly on the loud side but wasn’t too much of an issue for us. Will definitely book again.
Great service and great food. Would highly recommend.
Excellent food and service. Not inexpensive but very good
Service was a touch slow but was very very busy so easy to forgive.
Food was amazing though
Have visited Most of Hawksmoor Restaurant’s in London and always have an amazing meal and pleased to say Edinburgh did not disappoint thank you.
First time in Edinburgh as a couple and fancied a date night trip. We booked this last minute and couldn’t of made a better choice. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very polite young lady who took us straight to our table. When sitting we were offered a bottle of water for the table (impeccable service) in my eyes. The starter was tremendous and the main only got better. Accompanied by a delicious bottle of red. I mentioned when booking it was for my partners birthday, they brought over 2 cocktails on the house which were delicious. The waiter who looked after us, can’t remember his name. Was fabulous! We will be reccomending this to everyone we know and will be visiting again.
Where do I start!.....my worst dining experience EVER!! A Tuesday afternoon, lunch for 4 in an empty restaurant. How hard could it be!?.......VERY!!....
Had to look for a staff member to show us to a table, who promptly disappeared and then we waited an age for our order to be taken. Orders then taken......
Sorry Burgers and sausage main courses off the menu. Strike 1....I wanted a burger!
Wine sir??.......yes please , ordered a bottle of (expensive) Rioja.......didn’t taste like Rioja......oh we’ve given you another wine altogether. It’s more expensive but we won’t charge you....strike 2!
Starters came minus the sourdough crisps....on asking we were eventually delivered a dinner plate full of sourdough crisps......mains arrived and gratefully received.....rump steak inedible! ....strike 3!!!!
Complaint resulted in bill reduction and an apology but overall an overpriced underwhelming experience that will not be repeated!
Stunning good (sirloin steak cooked to perfection); pleasant service and very nice atmosphere.
Lovely place for an amazing sunday lunch. The Yorkshire puddings are huge and there is plenty of gravy along with perfect roast beef. Wines are delicious too. Definitely recommend.
The best Sunday roast I have ever had. Would definitely recommend
Previous excellent experiences at Hawksmoor in London, the Edinburgh branch lived up to all expectations.
Exceptional quality in the setting, decor, service. We chose the express menu, 3 courses for £25 represented great value for money. The steak is just so good.
No more say, couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you in particular to our server, Lucasz, who recognised we were slightly worse for wear after a wedding the previous night and offered a delicious gin/ginger cocktail for our hangovers.
My birthday Sunday lunch with family. Great ambience, service and food. From roast chicken to the slow cooked rump and vegetables, everything was delicious. My son and I particularly enjoyed the ginger cocktails as well. Will book again when in Edinburgh.
Absolutely fantastic. The staff made my birthday an occasion to remember. Shout out to the blonde lady in the Louis Vuitton shirt who was so attentive.
The Food was Excellent as was our Waiter. However be aware that the kitchen is not super efficient! I had to complain as our main course hasn’t arrived after an hour! Head waiter confirmed that the well done steak had been on the grill for at least 10 minutes more than he would have expected.
Great steak and monkfish. Tables probably a bit too close to each other but all good apart from that
Lovely staff who were always eager to help! Food was amazing. Will definitely be back
Outstanding as usual
Cannot fault it! Amazing as always, highly recommend the mash and gravy side... WOW
