Outrageously good in every way. Having done a Michelin Star spot the previous night, this was on a par and the service was just spot on too. Every course was bang-on with flavours, presentation and couldn’t be faulted. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates the best food without the nonsense of pretentious dining!

Had a fantastic meal never disappointed here. Went for the summer special but went ‘off piste’ to the temptation of the a la carte. It was great! The vegetarian dumplings and grilled courgettes dish was inspired and unbelievably good. Sides and chips superb. I love the unstinted seasoning, butter, oil and garnishing ... quite decadent especially when matched with cocktails Clear Carre and Parisien Daily. Staff are fun and well informed.

We had a lovely meal but was a bit disappointed with the long wait of 45 mins before the food arrived.
The food was very nice.
We also had to ask for the music to be turned down as it was too loud for us to talk.
But I would still recommend this place as the food was lovely..

The usual excellent standards in food and service. I am not a meat eater, but I just love this restaurant for its fish. Fresh, and perfectly cooked large portions.

I have visited Hawksmoor a few times before in Edinburgh and London and it isn't really getting any better. With food this simple it has to be perfect and this wasn't. The starter of Yorkshire puddings with onion gravy and potted beef was just odd as a concept. Quite dry puddings, quite sweet onion gravy, and an OK potted beef but together it was just an odd thing to eat. The curd salad was pleasant but not great. The heritage tomato salad was, again, just OK. Also devising a menu with heritage tomatoes as a component of two dishes (also an accompaniment to the fish main course) strikes me as being a bit odd. We all had steak which was well cooked (medium rare) but the meat wasn't as flavoursome as our last visit. The chips were Ok and quite well seasoned. The accompanying watercress salad was presented differently on all three plates. My wife had a dressing with hers, my daughter had some small pieces of onion, while mine had nothing and the watercress did not seem very fresh and was discolouring. We tried two puddings, the grilled peaches which had no grill marks on the flesh and looked a bit tired as if they had been hanging around for some time but tasted OK with a pleasant meringue and muscat cream (the obvious accompaniment to continue the almond flavour would have been an Amaretto cream). We also tried the peanut butter shortbread (cookie dough said my wife who was a professional pastry chef) which was a bit dry, with an OK salted caramel ice cream and chocolate. I am not sure who this restaurant appeals to. With such simple food all aspects have to be perfect. If you only have three ingredients on the plate they have to sing and for me this just didn't work.

I came to the Hawksmoor Edinburgh for the summer special lunch deal, whilst the price was great and the presentation of the food was good, the portions were quite small.

The steak itself (35 day aged rump steak) arrived and was medium as opposed to the rare I had asked for, the waiter was informed and offered to take it back so I could get a new steak, that was cooked to my liking. I refused this offer as it would have taken too long but we did receive our side sauce free of charge.

Other than the steak, the rest of the food was cooked perfectly and the service was impeccable as always.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant to other friends and family

We were so disappointed as we had heard such good things. My medium rare steak was a very poor quality tail end of the fillet and totally overcooked. I sent it back and received a second tail end piece only marginally less overcooked. The restaurant staff were lovely but run off their feet. The sides arrived well before the steaks. The restaurant was full and noisy but a lively atmosphere. The wine waitress was very unfriendly but the food waitress was lovely. Such a shame as we love to eat out in Edinburgh and, as there are so many restaurants to choose from, I am afraid we will not rush back.

Great service. The food was very tasty but very expensive. Especially when you have to buy sides with your steak. Wine again was good but no reasonable options.

Two important notes. Firstly it is one of the only places I have found outside London that accept Opentable cheques. There is absolutely no awkwardness in doing so. Secondly, they offer a BYOB on a Monday which will help you save on wine costs for £5 corkage.

I have been at the Hawksmoor multiple times and all experiences had been good in the past.

However, last time I had the Lunch Special of Rump & Fries and I was not very happy with it.
I asked for my meat to be cooked Medium and it turned out quite dry and well done.
Compared to my friend my steak was considerably smaller and the sauces (Peppercorn & Bechamel) had been tastier in the past as well.
I had the exact Menu two weeks ago and there everything was perfect!
I 'm not sure but I think the fries changed as well and I preferred the smaller french fries more than the chips served this time. Considering my multiple good experiences in the past, I am not really sure what went wrong this time.

The food was superb. Not just good, outstanding. What I want to highlight is the service. It was our anniversary, which we didn’t mention until towards the end of the meal. We were not only delighted to be given two lovely glasses of wine on a slate with “happy anniversary” written in (very lovely) chocolate but it was the fact, as a gay couple, we were treated exactly the same as any other couple. It was also the 50th anniversary of Stonewall/Pride and the staff knew this and understood why their gesture meant so very much on that very special day. Well done Hawksmoor. You are our new favourite restaurant.

We chose Hawksmoor Edinburgh for a reunion with family I haven’t seen for nearly 14 years, whilst they visited from the States. My wife and I eat at Hawksmoor in Knightsbridge now and again, and love it. Edinburgh was everything I expect if Hawksmoor. A beautiful building, fantastic staff, and sublime food. Look forward to eating here when we next visit the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

Absolutely amazing experience. Attentive and brilliant service from Iwan and colleagues. Steak was cooked a bit rare on first attempt but they readily made a fresh fillet and it was one of the best steaks I’ve ever had, and we’ve been to over 100 of the finest steakhouses. Cocktails were amazing especially the french house number two and the Boston education. Very pleased with the experience and the caring, almost loving treatment from the staff. You can tell they care about their guests and that they love their job. Five stars all round.

Overall a slightly disappointing experience. We had booked a set menu option but were presented with a la carte menus and had to request the set menu. My Caesar salad consisted almost entirely of lettuce and dressing with maybe half a dozen anchovies. The main course steak orders were cooked correctly but served the wrong way round at the table. The sticky toffee pudding served for dessert was delicious. There is a good choice of wine by the glass.

Service was slow

The high ceilings and hard surfaces meant noise levels were particularly high.

Had a great meal, the waiting staff were excellent and very helpful. The wine is way over price, we had a fillet steak each which was cook perfectly but over salted for my wife's taste, so if you don't like salt say when ordering. Overall it was a very nice experience but over priced for what it is really, I have had steaks for half the price that were every bit as good. best thing overall were the friendly and helpful staff. the question asked is would I recommend Hawksmoor, yes probably but I would warn the its going to be expensive.

I have been to hawksmoor many times and always had brilliant meals, however this time i wasn't as impressed. My partner did enjoy the fillet steak however unfortunately my potted beef starter had lots of fatty bits in it and the burger and chips were dry and over cooked and did not enjoy at all. Service was ok.

What lets this place down is the ambiance- it feels and looks like a railway station! The food was good, although for the price one would expect steak and chips in smart disguises to be OK. We went with 2 teenage boys who loved it, but i would not recommend it for an intimate or celebration night out.

Absolutely outstanding dinner. Best steak I've had in a long time and cooked perfectly. We were in early so it was relatively quiet but busied up soon enough. Staff were attentive but not over bearing so service was excellent too. Range of drinks was also excellent and not limited to wine (which can put off my partner who doesn't drink wine only beer, of which there was a good selection).

It took a while to find you with all the building hoardings around the area, but once we did, we had a wonderful evening. We were very troublesome, as I'd already had to push our booking time back because we spent far too long in the Surgeons' Hall Museums which are a 'must visit'. We then had to be talked in over the phone as we got lost! Despite the bad start, from the moment we arrived, everyone of the staff made us feel very welcome. A couple of drinks at the bar, while we looked at the menus, meant we were over an hour late sitting at our table, but all we got were accommodating smiles. Steaks and desserts were very tasty, full of flavour and cooked just right. I particularly liked the fact that I could buy a decent wine by the glass, so I was able to enjoy something up market that would have been prohibitive for me to buy by the bottle. Our waitress was charming and nothing was too much trouble. The best recommendation is to say we would definitely go back to Hawksmoor again!

We had difficulty finding the establishment due to construction - a note from Hawksmoor to suggest we come in through the hotel would have been very helpful.

Poor service spoiled our experience. We had difficulty getting the attention of our waiter throughout the evening, food was "dropped off" with no follow up, had to track him down for cheque.

On another note I must comment that this was our first night in Scotland, we were somewhat disappointed not to hear a single Scottish voice at Hawksmoor.

Drinks we ordered were slow to arrive so the service was a little slow at the beginning, but we had no issues with the food service. Our waiter was personal and friendly, but sadly his shift was over before we finished our food & we didn't see him again. We both enjoyed our meals but found the lack of a uniform or standard dress for the waiting staff a bit disappointing in such a classy restaurant.
