Excellent evening and great service from our waitress.
A very enjoyable meal. Steak was cooked to perfection only negative on the food was having to send Mac and cheese back as it was cold. Service was really good. Waitress was attentive but you never felt rushed. Will most certainly be back for another visit
Outstanding quality and great service, have been to several London Gawksmoor and this was every bit as good having just opened 2 weeks prior.
Excellent scallops and steak. Only disappointment was lack of Oysters which were advertised on 3 blackboards.
the steak was amazing the bar recommendations were welcomed and the service made our whole experience!!
Was looking forward to our visit to the new Hawksmoor in Edinburgh after visiting the London Seven Dials branch a few years back and having a great experience. First impressions disappointing - site is part of an impressive former bank building the current access is along a narrow lane next to construction works. I guess they can't help this though? The host greeted us and her relaxed welcome made us feel it would be the atmosphere and vibe we had previously experienced at the other Hawksmoor. As visit progressed we became more disappointed with the atmosphere and style of service. The dining room looks unfinished and was very bright creating a bland business atmosphere. We had to ask for the express menu despite it being clearly mentioned on the main menu - no real advice or flexibility was offered on what our kids aged 3 and 5 might eat apart from that they probably wouldn't like the beef and bone marrow sausages. We eventually got them a macaroni side dish, chips and a tomato salad but we basically had to piece this together. Our burger and steak main meals were very good but £28 for a 350g ribeye without any sides seems excessive especially at lunch. Triple cooked chips very tasty but dripping fries not any better than a standard French fries from any cafe or fast food. Our waitress lacked personality and seemed too formal for our expectations of Hawksmoor, continually straightening chairs and not really seeming impressed with any of our simple questions or queries. Perhaps Hawksmoor Edinburgh intends to be a boring, lifeless business lunch venue but we were disappointed overall and chose to take the kids for ice cream elsewhere rather than bother the waitress with a request for kid friendly desserts. Sadly can't see us returning...
Had been in the restaurant in London and couldn't wait to try the Edinburgh branch. It didn't disappoint. It didnt have the same buzz as London but it's only been open 4 weeks and the time we ate here was slightly earlier. Food was excellent. Staff very attentive and knowledgable. Pricy, but worth it
The food was mostly very good apart from one portion having slightly undercooked lobster.
The service in general was poor.
Empty plates were left lying on our table for too long (I was about to move them to the Bar myself), the waiter went missing at times (to sit with his colleagues) and there was just a general sense that we weren’t being paid close enough attention. We’re not looking to be lavished in a diva like way - but given the bill for 4 people was c£450 I’d have expected better.
The feeling I had was that the staff were still finding their feet (we were in the restaurant the previous week and our waitress was outstanding so it does seem that service standards are a bit of a lottery just now.)
We’ll probably give it a few months before trying again to see if the table service can be improved.
As with an new steak house I was keen to try out Hawksmoor, it’s only been open just over a month so can expect some initial teething issues but delighted to say the service and food was fantastic with no issues. Henry was looking after us, brilliant lad, very knowledgeable and great banter as well. Makes some excellent choices on wine and their local beer is a must try. Overall meal for 4 with 2 bottles and beers etc came in around £280 so about £70 per head which for a steak house isn’t to bad at all, at the mid range price point. Great evening out, loved the inside on the place and good atmosphere all round, didn’t feel stuffy at all which also a plus point. Would I go back, absolutely... great food and the staff are excellent.
lovely food & great service. My only criticism would be drinks on the expensive side & very noisy because of the high ceilings. It's a lovely venue & would go back
The place is beautiful service was good and the food incredible will definitely be back
Awesome venue and awsome service. We had a last minute change and the wonderful staff went above and beyond to accommodate us.
The ambience was cold, with too much brown wood, old fashioned, no comfortable chairs. Not the ambience one would expected of a 5 star luxury hotel. Service and food were exceptional.
We organised a university reunion during the Fringe and the Private Dining room at Hawksmoor Edinburgh was a perfect venue to get together.
We were well looked after by the knowledgable staff and most of all, the food and wines were fantastic.
Recommend if beef is your thing...
Absolutely superb meal. The decor is spot on and you get a real Edinburgh feel from the high ceilings and open plan. Our starters were superb (langoustines and scallops) and the steak (fillet) is probably the best I've had. The home made ketchup was a surprising highlight. Also, a nice birthday surprise, which was a lovely touch. Cocktails great, staff very friendly. Only negative is the music was a bit more 'pop' and vibrant which I thought didn't match the ambience - I don't think any music was needed. But all-in-all, absolutely superb.
Really enjoyed our evening in Hawksmoor. Food was tasty and menu had lots of nice things to choose from. Prices are premium but expected from a London brand and the room is very grand. Service good if a little impersonal. All in all I would recommend.
Ordered an expensive steak medium rare, arrived 40 minutes later medium well to well done. Waitress handled it really well and new one arrived 20 minutes later. It was lovely, but bordering more towards medium than medium rare. A steak restaurant should get this right. Would go back, but not for steak, there are many better steak restaurants in Edinburgh.
Best steak in a while delicious. Nice ambiance. Definitely return.
A positive experience overall, but service was a little slow and we had a few fire alarms going off. Both of these could be teething problems. Guidance on ordering was not given and as a result I under-ordered. Food was of high quality when it arrived however.
Food had great flavours and staff friendly. Waiting staff had good knowledge of menu. Would prefer not to see body art on display particularly at reception.
Great venue, busy, very attentive service staff, kitchen fell behind so service suffered but not the food quality. Went fot the steaks and they were perfect, would definitely go again
Great server . Very considerate and helpful. Busy restaurant but kept us informed all evening.
Expected more after reading previews : Oysters not prepared properly , fries at £5.00 no better than Burger King's and steaks too expensive.
Staff not up to expected standard and could have been more interested.
Intention may be to create an informal dining experience but ambience felt more like a Wetherspoons rather than a decent restaurant.
Fabulous. I am a firm fan of Spitalfields so was delighted that the Hawksmoor was opening slightly closer to home. The Sunday Roast is an experience in itself. Lovely, knowledgeable staff. Food was incredible. Looking forward to a return visit. Great addition to the ever growing Edinburgh food scene. Just need a Hawksmoor to open in Glasgow now!
Having been a massive fan of their 7 dials restaurant I was excited when the talk was of them opening in my home city
Restaurant is big and spacious, well enough gone out but TBF it was a bank building already so not a lot to put into the finish
Food was good but not the X factor I get in London
Service was ok but not as good as some others
Wish them well but don’t get complacent
Newly opened in Edinburgh, keeps up the extremely high quality and standards of other Hawksmoor restaurants we've eaten in. Steak was done to perfection, service was excellent, cannot fault it. Only let down was the snotty, ignorant, obnoxious lady/couple next to us, but that is absolutely not the fault of the restaurant! Highly recommended and will be back when we are in Edinburgh again. Just hope the building work opposite is finished!
Our first visit and wasn’t disappointed, food and service was first class. Will definitely be back.
A good new addition to Edinburgh that will give other steak restaurants a run for their money. Beautiful conversion of an old banking hall, good menu that has a wide choice of meats and fish, at the higher end of the price range but still reasonable in comparison to others. Very good service - we fancied a cocktail that wasn't on their menu, with a bit of prompting and research, they made a very good version! Perfect night for a group of friends.
Great restaurant, absolutely loved the experience. Food was fab, wines were great, service was excellent, totally appropriate for our special anniversary dinner.
Bar service was good, table service was good, food was good (wife and I shared a 700g t-bone). Each one of these deserves 8/10.
We sat down at 7pm and at that point the restaurant was quiet and really lacked atmosphere. By 10pm it was much busier but the majority of diners seemed to be male business men. That’s not a problem but it does mean that there is a certain ambiance that didn’t sit perfectly with us on a two couple night out. Obviously not a lot Hawksmoor can do about that and it won’t put me off recommending it or visiting again but there are some smaller steak venues in Edinburgh that might just be above Hawksmoor on my current list.
Absolute Killer steaks, service and awesome team!
Looked after us extremely well and the server who usually works at Manchester treated us like kings!
Big ol' steakeroo and creamed spinach of the Gods themselves
10/10 would recommend
Great new venue in St Andrew Square...best Sunday roast ever and great value ...service was excellent and selection of dishes and drinks very good....will be back
Note: due to construction works restaurant entrance is very poor but do not let that deter you...inside Bar and restaurant decor and ambience and service first class!!!
Very classic and elegant ambiance. The food is delicious and abundant (we ordered the Sunday roast). The staff is very polite and quick to serve. A high quality place with a great price-quality relation.
Our first visit and we had a very enjoyable lunch experience. The Sunday roast was excellent and the house wine was very good.
Our only minor gripe was that the restaurant was not busy and yet other dinners were sat next to our table and we could hear their conversation and they ours .
One other comment which may not be connected was that I suffered from an upset stomach during the night ( which I do not suffer from ) and the prominent sense during the unpleasant experience was of crab, which I had had as a starter. It may not have been connected but ...
Top drawer experience from start to finish. The staff are second to none. Consistent with their colleagues in the Spitalfield restaurant.
Fillet Steak is the best there is for me. Desserts are amazing as well, and these guys know how to make wicked cocktails. Sneaky Pete’s a personal favourite.
We will be back. Again and again.
This place has the potential but just is not there yet.
To many things went wrong not to be noted. we asked for a quite location as I am hard of hearing with loud backroom noise. This was all good for 5 minutes until the same girl I had asked showed a group of 5 who were well on and loud to the table next to us. We were moved after another request. Our choice of wine was good but my wife didn't appear to like it on investigating I found her glass to be the problem, it was smelling like an old floor cloth. The waiter didn't seem to understand so I changed the glass myself from another table. We opted for steaks and no starter saving space for desert was the wife's thinking. 50 minutes later the waiter advised that our steaks would be another 20 minutes as they were on the char grill ? This would have been better if he had advised the truth as we are aware how long a steak takes. Well it did arrive and wasn't char grilled but was cooked as requested unfortunately the sides didn't show but later turned up minus the chips, I advised that the chip order hadn't arrived and a girl appeared, who I thought was the cleaner as she was dressed casual, with a chip order. The chips that we ordered were Triple cooked what we had were skinny marrow fat chips. Again I advised the server we corrected the situation. Desserts were ok but the coffee two double espressos were vile not sure where they got them from but don't try. to finish off I requested an amaretto for my good lady and a large Brandy for myself. On receipt of the Brandy it was a single not a large as requested. The bill was requested and paid in full but none of these silly little errors were accounted for. I do hope they do get it together as these things do spoil the night.
Very friendly staff and very helpful, didn't even feel rushed to finish meal, and even better got a complimentary treat for our anniversary.
Very friendly staff happy to give recommendations on cocktails or make something up depending on your mood. Express menu great value and large portions. Service great my only gripe is that we both felt the steak was way over salted. Please stop doing this. It won’t stop me from returning but It needs addressed. We can add but can’t take away.
I can’t tell you how utterly disappointed I was with my experience at Hawksmuir. If I spend £160+ tip for 2 (2courses each plus wine), I don’t expect to have to ask to be served (twice); Not be able to easily identify the waiting staff because they were so scruffy (this was particularly shocking to me); barely warm accompaniments with the main course, that became cold so quickly they were inedible. Booked this knowing it was more expensive but with the expectation of something special... I will not be back.
