Hawksmoor Wood Wharf is housed in an eco-friendly floating pavilion in a new riverside neighbourhood in Canary Wharf. Gently rising and falling with the tide, the main restaurant at dock-level is joined by a 120-seat waterside bar. Both include terraces with views across the water (squint your eyes and you might just see the ghosts of great ships laden with mighty lengths of timber that used to swing in and unload there). There's also a private dining room for up to 20 people named after the local legend Queenie Watts, a singer, songwriter, actor and self-confessed bawdy landlady (think Peggy Mitchell meets Joni Mitchell). The menu revolves around the best British produce the country has to offer with grass-fed dry-aged ethically reared beef, sustainable seafood from the South coast and some of the biggest hits from the Hawksmoor New York menu.

We had an absolutely fantastic time. Always do! The staff are the best, the very best. Informal, no standing on ceremony, but efficient, friendly and helpful to the extreme, but without the continuing interruptions much favoured in so-called (self-identifying!) premium restaurants. It's the perfect balance. And combined with the elegant decor and music, the Michelin-quality steaks, the broad-as-the-majestic-Shannon wine and cocktail list, you've got yourself a night to remember. Don't let the prices put you off—it's worth every penny and more!

Food was average for the price we paid, the meat was decent but the veg was nothing special. Went a few years ago and was one of the best roasts we ever had, atmosphere and service was great though

we had the best evening! Lovely greeting, fantastic service and the food was superb! I had the grilled garlic and lemon chicken, cooked to perfection and super tasty! 2shared the mixed grill and the rest had steaks, which again they thoroughly enjoyed! Will go back for sure!
