This was a very poor show from Hawkyns. The table which we were given initially had the heater not working. We were then moved to a make shift tent outdoor seating which had 1 heater for several tables.
The food was OK overall but the value that we got was 1/5. This is not what you expect from the finest in this business. Sindhu in Marlow is amazing but Hawkyns is no where close to that. The only good thing was the quality of the staff and they were good. When you pay to eat in a "fine dining" restaurant, you expect quality. However, most of the basics weren't available - dirty black sheets on tables, bad ambience and zero investment on outdoor infrastructure (heaters & surrounding etc.).
We went during the easing of lockdown where outdoor dining is available. The food, service and ambience were excellent. The only downside was the weather, which I can't really fault the restaurant. For their bit, they did set up gazebos and heaters, so there was not much more that they could do.
Under a marquee in rain and sleet we had an amazing meal. The venison tikka was incredible. Lamb Biryani wonderful and service (despite the weather) great. I thoroughly recommend this place. On a sunny day in the courtyard it would have been perfect!
Lovely outdoor courtyard and all COVID-19 safe. I was expecting the courtyard menu as per the website but was offered the a la carte and tasting menu. That being said, the food was delicious and I had a nice extra touch to acknowledge my wedding anniversary. Definitely will return.
Great venue and fantastic food. The ambience was perfect for celebrating a special occasion and the Chef sent a complementary cake and birthday wishes on a plate when they got to know. Would highly recommend and will surely revisit.
Food was fantastic. Ambience was good, alfresco, very good and friendly staff.
Lovely starters but the veggie option a couple of us had as a main wasn't as exciting. We'd have preferred the option merely to choose three side (veg) dishes.
Overall though we loved our experience incl. meeting the master chef himself!
60th birthday. No acknowledgement of birthday.
Outside was windy and the temporary tent had little imagination with only one heater.
Disappointing compared to previous meals. The standard of food was far inferior and rather ordinary.
Excellent food in a very relaxed atmosphere. Really recommend this restaurant.
Food was excellent but it would have been nice to have some outdoor heaters/warmth as well as the blanket offered to make the whole experience 5 star. I appreciate the restaurant has no option other than outdoor seating at the moment but the heaters would have helped.
Service and food outstanding. Only thing letting it down was the ambience with Heart FM blasting out of their outdoor speaker and plastic wine glasses. Another table had glass glasses so I’m not too sure why there was a difference? Additionally the red wine was served from a bottle that was in their outside bar so was very cold.
Excellent food and outdoor seating area. Excellent service.
Best Indian food I have tried! We really loved it.
Service was very slow
The taster menu is really overpriced
The dessert as part of the taster menu(white chocolate ball with chocolate mousse inside) was not good at all.
I will not be going back
Amazing tasting menu in a lovely Marquee, fantastic live singer, great service
Nice experience after lockdown, we ate in the courtyard. Atmosphere was pleasant and live music was a nice touch
good place with parking and the owner Mr Kucher and staff was friendly the food was ok the best thing about it was the singer
Consistently high quality authentic Indian cuisine perfectly blended with a mixture of spice and taste. You can never go wrong with Atul Kochar
Fantastic food , attentive staff. Very well organised with outside dining. A great way to celebrate our Golden Wedding
The restaurant was very inviting with nice crisp tablecloths and service and food good
Lovely outdoor dining experience. Felt comfortable and safe.
This was our first venture out since the ending of lockdown and we felt happy, comfortable and safe in the outside terrace. There’s a very good value set terrace lunch menu and we choose from that. Food was excellent - very tasty and good sized portions. They also have a la carte on offer. Service was friendly. Overall excellent and we’ll be back again soon.
Extremely enjoyable experience, the staff were excellent, food delicious arriving at the right time and we didnt feel rushed at all
service was a bit sketchy, even though they weren’t busy.
the seats were a bit rickety, but the food was nice
We booked our first meal from being out of lockdown and was extremely disappointed no one was there to greet us the gazebos they put up were dirty no effort made the service was slow no interaction with staff even though the were only 3 tables being used drinking wine out of plastic cups which one had to be changed as it had lipstick on was awful certainly not a 5* dining experience.
Overall very good, but I suspect that some of the tables had more than one household at them, which was not allowed at restaurants in tier 2. This does put other diners, staff and the restaurant at risk.
Service very slow to start. No drinks offered to us for 15 mins after arrival!! Food average not great. I’ve been before but feel everything wasn’t so good this time
We had a Virgin voucher so wasn’t the whole menu but what we had was delicious.
In fact brought another voucher for my husband for Christmas.
Also going to go back for full menu.
Delicious lunch and great service!
First visit and the Hawkyns stood up to its reputation.
Absolutely the best Indian food I have ever had.Excellent service
Our first visit. The food was very nice and some elements of magic. The ambience and service was a bit missing for the level of spend. We ate off the a la carte menu and our mains, sides and one desert with a glass of wine each was 100 pounds after service charge. There is a fixed price lunch deal that would be better value. Overall not quite brilliant enough to justify that spend. Suggestions: make each menu item sparkle. Boost the service charisma and add some music
Really disappointed with this latest trip. The food was excellent but the service continues to be patchy at best. We also didnt get offered any chutney's and papads etc to start which was bizarre as others around us were. Atmosphere continues to need work.
Delicious food, interesting dishes. Chilled atmosphere - nothing too much trouble for them. Will be back.
Enjoyable alternative Indian dishes but expensive relative to some excellent more traditional Indian restaurants in the area. Service and front of house suffered for Covid rules but needs a bit of an infusion of vigour and enthusiasm!
Service was very slow, and we were most unimpressed to have been served our food later than another party who arrived half an hour later than us. The food was also extremely spicy, which was disappointing for someone who enjoys fragrant Indian food.
Great food, lovely atmosphere and set lunch great value for. Money
Food was great, but we were seated in a room at the back of the restaurant which had family tables. No ambiance. A stack of high chairs next to our table! Service was efficient but not very friendly. Overall, disappointed.
Really enjoyed our meal. The food was amazing with lovely flavours. One small criticism is to do with the pheasant, which was served with a spiced sauce and on a bed of saag aloo. The flavours of the saag aloo completely overpowered the much more subtle flavours of the pheasant and sauce.
Aside from that, we were really happy.
