Loved the open kitchen and the food was impeccable
Sushi was what you’d expect to pay for low cost sushi.
Octopus was good.
Halibut was dry but got compensated so can’t argue. Oysters were average.
Service was very very slow which for a half empty restaurant which was super disappointing. Decor was very agreeable, 60’s chic, modern and cozy all at the same time, which made the experience all the more regrettable.
Seems like they were still trying to figure out how to serve people. Food was fair but I can cook the same thing much better at home.
Food was great! Expensive, but good!! If you have adult eyes, bring a magnifying glass and a flashlight. Our waiter was exceptional!!
Lovely atmosphere, attentive staff, great food and drinks. A great place for a special meal.
Excellent service and delicious food. The blue crab breinets were the best!!
Great service and food but they do play the music a little loud hard to have a conversation
Popped in here on a Saturday with a small group. The apps were good and the steak was fantastic albeit pretty darn high for Waygu. Ultimately however it was pretty dead so the ambiance compared to any comparable high-end restaurant was just not comparable. The worst part however - we tried to order a second round of drinks, to accompany our meal ( it’s not uncommon to have a glass of wine with a $100 steak) ...The waitress informed us that the bar was closed – even though the restaurant was going to be open for another hour. The bartenders, who by the way, were standing around with no masks on, seemed like they were trying to clean up the bar and leave early. She made it seem like she did at us a gigantic favor to serve one person at our table “one more drink”, while our steak, which took about an hour for a medium rare steak, came out. Neither of the other people at the table were afforded an opportunity to order a drink to have with their meal, which all-in was about $100 a person. Applebees service at a Ritz-Carlton price? Would not come back, would not recommend.
Food and service were great! Our server was Brian, and his service was impeccable. I was a little disappointed at the size of the lobster tail. It looked more like a big prawn, however the steak, truffle mac and cheese and mushrooms were amazing. I would highly recommend.
The only thing great about our meal was the way overpriced booze— Drinks were good though we had a martini and whiskey neat.
We went for "date night" and specified in our reservation, we were sat on a bench seat with a family / children on iPads while the entire restaurant was open. We really wanted to like this place, but the food really left a lot to be desired. We had the Brie, lobster bisque and halibut and didn't finish any of the three.
We won’t be returning.
Accepted my reservation for Valentines Day but ended being closed on a Sunday. Had to find another restaurant that would take a reservation last minute.
Under the unusual conditions, a completely enjoyable experience. Oysters and grilled octopus appetizers were fresh and definitely to be reordered on next visit. The bone-in ribeye and Filet flight were perfectly medium rare as ordered. The atmosphere of this downtown restaurant was pleasing. A definite addition to the dining opportunities for an evening in Dallas. Ask for tour of private dining room with it’s own bar.
It took over an hour to get a charcuterie board order.
When the meal finally arrived the halibut was over cooked to the point of ruin.
The ravioli was delivered cold.
The cocktails were served with too much ice and not enough cocktail.
The bright side was the ambiance and the meatballs actually were appetizing.
Valentines
This place is great! Biggest surprise was how good the sushi was!! Steak was amazing and avacado salad blew my mind
We went for the filet flight. The filets were good, but could have been hotter. The appetizers and sides were average to poor. All the food was bland and one of the appetizers came out cold. We were always waiting on or looking for the waiter. Never got drinks till well after we wanted them. The waiter never came by to ask how the food was until the plates were cleared. Without wine, the meal was $300. Absolutely not worth it. When we told the waiter about the cold appetizer, he apologized and the manager came over and apologized and said it would be removed from our bill. Food continued to come out less than hot and we were still charged for all the appetizers. Skip it.
We really enjoyed everything and that included many apps, entrees and sushi! My feedback is this: the bread was very mediocre and I’m a huge dessert person but nothing on the dessert menu spoke to me-need a chocolate offering
Wouldn’t recommend as the quality and value for the price isn’t there. You would due better at The Charles or Al Biernats. It was rushed and chaotic with the dining room seemly overstaffed. With price point of over a Benjamin per guest, the evening at times felt we were at a Mexican café and not a fine dining venue... an insistence it seemed on turning the table. We only stayed an hour and a half...no lingering allowed
The specialty cocktails were pleasing as were the Allen Bros beef and sushi choices. The seafood was over cooked, the chicken precooked and then rotisseried. All seemed be accompanied by outrageously overprice tepid sides including limp fries and cold grits.
Our waiter while eager to please when you could find him could have suggested a bottle of wine when three ordered a large pour @ $26 each,
Hawthorn has the makings of fine brasserie if they can get their and pricing together.
The experience here was ammmmmmaaaaazzzziinngg! From the hostess to the waitstaff to the ambiance to the food! I had a wonderful experience. The food and drinks were amazing. The staff were friendly and attentive and made me feel like I was dining with good friends. I had a great time and will be back. My food was so delicious and my drinks was divine.
High-end steaks and high dollar, however the Wagu filet was excellent. Tender and full of flavor. Fried okra was nice, mashed potatoes needed butter, but once added, very good. Attentive staff as well. Good security presence in ATT plaza as well. Hope they are around for a long time.
This newly opened restaurant is a great gem for downtown Dallas and the Discovery District! Great food, terrific service and an elegant decor are a potent combination!
We are very disappointed in the restaurant to start with we had a reservation 8 o’clock the tables were wide open but they wouldn’t seat us till after we bought a $30 Glass of wine each. The ambience was not nice very very bright like a cafeteria but it was just OK overall we would not go back.
The food was outstanding as was the service. Creative cocktail menu. Great upgrade for downtown
Our first dining experience at Hawthorn was spot on. Can’t wait to return.
This was one of the best meals I have had in some time. Eclectic menu but not a miss for any of the items we ordered - sushi, fish, steak and veggies. They service was excellent as well. We sat out in the small but cute patio.
Food was mixed. Shrimp cocktail was fishy tasting and overpriced. Swordfish was excellent. Burger was way undercooked and fries were not hand cut. Service was professional and very friendly. Atmosphere was mixed. Some of the design elements look cheap like the cherry blossom divider and fake plants and flowers while others like the seat banquettes in the bar are well done. Overall doesn’t have a vibe that makes me want to come back for more.
It felt like I was eating in a Marriott courtyard. Food was bad. It won’t make it...
Food and Beverages were very very good. Had a large party of 8 and everyone was taken care of and served at the same time. Waiter, Dakota and other wait staff very attentive without hovering! We Will definitely go back!!
Octopus was awesome! Great restaurant, doing a good job, opening during Covid-19 restrictions.
Wrong drink brought from the bar three times, missing items that are on the menu, food order was not brought out correctly, service was horrendous, and at the end the the bill was incorrect (overcharged). Nice finish out, and the Wonder Women exhibit outside is cool, but they will be gone in less than 18 months without professional management and training.
They should have been more strategic about seating with the pandemic. We were back to back - there were plenty of seats to spread us out. Won’t go back until post-pandemic.
We were a little concerned with Social Distancing and actually asked to be moved when the restaurant seated a couple right next to us (less then 3 feet away). Food was great and the staff reacted quickly to our request. The seating area is very tight and not conducive to social distill.
Great food, atmosphere, and service! Highly recommend!
Dakota was our server and he was great!!! Made great recommendations and very knowledgeable about the menu.
