Hemingway's Wine Room
The concept for Hemingway’s Wine Room was fashioned after a couple of bottles of Chablis one late wintery Melbourne afternoon. The idea - to create a beautiful neighbourhood destination to share food and wine for every occasion.
Inspired by New York and Paris in the 1920s, our neighbours can choose to dine in our moody brasserie or enjoy a moveable feast in our wine bar.
Whether you are a local or travelling from afar, we want to make your experience a memorable one every time you visit.

Excellent, even exquisite food, very good service and very good wines by the glass. We could almost fool ourselves into thinking we were in Paris.
Food beautifully presented serves slightly on small side but that was good cause you felt very comfortable after 3 courses
Wine list good but very pricey maybe need to have a bigger price variety
Really a special occasion restaurant
Service good waitress probably needed to remind us to order sides as we forgot.
A very nice place for a quiet romantic dinner. Great food and a great wine list. Staff were friendly and knowledgable.
Blown away by incredible food supported by outstanding drinks. Dish of the night black garlic braised abalone with Imada sparkling sake !!!
Nice decor. Food presentation was like a work of art and tasted delicious. The two course lunch with a glass of vino is excellent value.
Lovely cocktails and a short, but very good wine list.
Lastly, knowledgeable, efficient, friendly service.
"Nice, well-lighted place". Friendly staff, delicious food, cosy atmosphere. The only, minus was in least expected thing...tea. It was extremely strong - we were unable to drink it. Apart from that, bravo!
Fantastic. Food is amazing and complimented by the style and ambiance. The staff were first class, and were able to provide great insights into the menu. Wine list to be explored. Highly recommend
Glen and team were great as always. Love coming here and look forward to returning soon.
extremely overpriced for what we received. noisy and no ambience inexperienced staff.
Hi there, Disappointed to hear about your experience. We are slightly confused about your review of us being quiet, yet your comment states noisy and no ambience? Our staff have been with us for 12 months, but as a new business we always look to improve. We always prefer in person feedback during our meal as it means we can work with you on rectifying your exeperience.
The entee's were greatly overpriced. My pate had two mouthfuls plus bits of decoration. Worst of all, my swordfish had absolutely zero texture - I believe it had been frozen and you cannot successfully freeze swordfish! There needs to be some reasonably priced wines on the list.
Hi John, We are always open to feedback and wish you had spoken to us in person and we would have replaced your dish no questions asked. We actually agree. We did have an issue with our swordfish last week. We have spoken with our supplier and they agreed that the fish was quite fibrous. We would love for you to come in and give us another try.
Had dinner with 3 friends - was my first time there and very impressed - had a drink in the bar first - food was excellent - service and ambience both great so keen to go back
Thank you so much for joining us and we hope you can come in again!!
Wonderful in every way.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
Beautiful food, great wine selection made for a wonderful night out.
Thanks so much for your review, Tim! We hope you can join us again!
Would have preferred the bar area's ambience. Impressed with entree... mains were less exciting...
Hi Anne, Thanks for your feedback. You are more than welcome to choose where you would like to sit. We hope you can join us again as our menu will evolve seasonally.
Everything was okay but not great. Each dish had at least one element that was not enjoyable to eat and the service was quite aloof. When asking for details about certain wine the ‘sommelier’ could only describe them as ‘nice’ or ‘lovely to drink’. Nothing in his description gave me any confidence that he knew what he was talking about- disappointing considering it’s specifically called a Wine Room. I probably won’t return, it was deeply average.
Hi Ellie, we are disappointed to hear about your experience. We wish you had have mentioned to us about the food so we could have made recommendations or tried to improve your experience. Regarding the wine, always feel free to ask for other members of our staff to make recommendations if you are not happy with your answers. Knowing that we are a new and small business we hope that you do give us another chance.
Food and wine was fabulous, and the service and attentiveness from Julie, Clare and Glen was outstanding. Can’t wait to visit again.
Thanks so much for your review, Helen! We hope you can come in again soon.
a lovely local addition to the neighbourhood! service was charming and delightful!
Thanks so much for your review. We hope you can join us again next time you are down.
Great atmosphere, staff are extremely helpful and the food was amazing. Not to mention the champagne, wine and WOW, the Spiced Racket cocktail is just perfect!
Thanks so much for your review, Troy! We agree the Spice Racket is pretty special!
Loved the whole experience and have recommended Hemingway wine room to many friends
Thanks so much for your review Pauline. And thanks for being so kind and passing on the message via word of mouth.
What a fabulous experience!
The team were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable and the food was excellent.
From our first drink (aptly titled 'death in the afternoon') to our last drink (a Montenegro) and everything in between we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Thanks all for the great recommendations and a fun night. We ended up having four courses and can't wait to go back.
Thanks so much for your review, Sarah! We hope you can join us again soon.
Loved it. Ambience excellent. Easy to get to
We had a delicious meal, the king salmon entree was a standout dish.
The wait staff were mostly attentive and the wine selections nice.
Thanks so much for your kind words! We hope you can join us again soon!
Another great meal at Hemingways ....the new menu looks fantastic and i had the crab entree which was in terms of flavour ,one of the best dishes i have had for a long time ....the duck to follow was very good as well ..
As always Glens hospitality capped of a great lunch ..cheers
Hi Peter, we always enjoy having your company! So glad you enjoyed the new menu. Looking forward to you joining us again soon.
A really well thought out menu something for most tastes but concise. The food is lovely. They have also nailed the ambience.
Thanks so much for your review, Riccardo. We really appreciate it and hope you can join us again soon!
Delicious food and wine and great service
Thanks for your review!
Small but cosy well appointed dining room low ambient noise music discernible but not intrusive making conversation easy
Food very good wines excellent extremely good serivice
Only quible prices are a bit on high side but if you dont fine every week there the rest of the overall experience is highly positive and big value to East Melbournr
Thanks so much for your kind words Thomas. We will be launching a special 'Back to the office' weekday lunch offering after Easter and more special events in the near future! Hopefully, you can join us again soon.
A great afternoon of oysters leading into dinner.
We certainly enjoyed the afternoon and evening
Hi Tim, it is always so fabulous to hear of customers enjoying oysters and then rolling into dinner! We hope you can join us again soon!
Started badly when we were shown to what must be the worst table in the restaurant - in the middle, too close to adjacent tables. The night improved with the great food, service, wine but that table needs to go. All night I had staff and other guests brushing past me. It's cheek by jowl in the restaurant - a little surprising that it accords with current Covid rules but the rest of it was exceptionally good.
Thanks for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed our menu and drinks. With COVID restrictions our table layout has had to be amended to suit regulations, but always feel free to call ahead and request a specific table and we can try and accommodate you. Thanks so much for your understanding during this time. We hope to see you again. It was wonderful to host you.
Went for dinner before the footy with my Dad. Food was a bit expensive for what it was
They had me at dark chocolate “Magnum” foie gras ice cream. What more can I say?
So glad you enjoyed it! We can't wait for our guests to enjoy it, too. Watch out for our new menu - launching soon!
Great wine and cocktails, a bit underwhelmed with the food wasn't bad but nothing exciting, wagu beef was tougher than expected. Great wine and service though, I'd go back to wine and cheese
Hi Peter, thanks for your review. We are launching a new menu in April so hopefully you will be able to join us again soon. The cheese and wine are always available!
Could not recommend this place enough. The food is incredible, the service is even better and the wine list is so extensive (as you would expect having wine room in the title) there is a choice and price point to suit everyone.
Strongly recommend the duck confit and ordering an espresso martini. Went there on Friday night, going back Tuesday - that’s how much I enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Tenielle. Hope to see you again (again).
Amazing food, drinks and fantastic service! The cocktails were outstanding
Thanks Ebony! We hope you can join us soon.
Great atmosphere and friendly, professional staff. Loved the oyster special, wild rabbit entree, cod main with great side dishes.
Thanks so much Frances. We appreciate your feedback and hope you can join us again soon!
Whilst this night was a somewhat one off because of the COVID lockdown ,the food was sensational ....both in quality and variation ...so much so that i hope the main menu elements could be available on the normal menu ...the service was impeccable...the chef needs to be congratulated on the food presentation ...Bravo !
Thank you so much for your kind words Peter. We have passed this message onto our team. We hope you can join us again soon!
Totally exceeded our expectations, especially for valentines dinner. Beautifully designed restaurant with exceptional food expressed as a work or art that showcases Hemingway’s talent. Service was passionate and personal. Thanks for a great experience. We’ll be back!
A gorgeous intimate dining room and fabulous food.... but most of all the service here is of the highest standard. It's a shame the magnum lunch has been ceased (as at $109 it was perfect), the Champagne lunch is fantastic, but priced for special occasions at $199 per head. We will be back!!
Thanks so much, Melissa! We can't wait to host you again!
Absolutely stunning service, food and wine. All three courses looked, smelt and tasted amazing, first class on all fronts! Great service and wine knowledge, all staff were more than happy to assist with selections to match each course.
Will be back for sure!
Thanks so much for your review! We. hope you can join us again soon for our new menu launching mid-April.
Food and service were both amazing and will definitely return.
From the time we were seated, this was an experience. Thank you Julia for looking after us we had an incredible evening
