I was celebrating joint significant Birthdays with my husband, so it was a special treat for us. The Rooms and the hotel are beautiful and very well kept, very clean, stylish luxury. We felt very lucky to be there. The service for dinner was not great. The waitress who welcomed us was lovely, friendly without being pushy or overbearing . There were no cloth tablecloths and the napkins were paper. It felt at odds with the beautiful surroundings and the image of a luxury hotel and restaurant. The menu was good, not adventurous, but solid. Our starters were fine, nothing too memorable for good or bad reason. No bread was brought to the table. We thought this was an oversight. Our mains were nice - I had braised neck of lamb and it was delicious. My husband had fish and he did not think it was fresh, but it tasted fine. The mains did not come with vegetables so we had to order sides. I ordered three times fried chips, which were barely fried once. I paid €6 for this, and I was very disappointed. Likewise, we shared a portion of seasonable vegetables, which was a generous amount. For the prices we paid, we expected very high quality ingredients and cooked as described. We did not order dessert, a first for me as I didn't trust that I would get what was described on the menu. The breakfast service was much better, was enjoyable and the food was very nice. I would not go back to Herbert's. Not because it was disastrous, but because I thought it was hit and miss - some high points, but not consistent enough for the prices we paid.

Dear Maria, Thank you for taking the time to reviewe your dining expereince at Cahernane. We appreciate your kind comments on the breakfast but naturally are disappointed with your review of dinner. We changed our menu this year from fine dining to a brasserie style which was the feedback we received from our guests. All dishes including breads and sides are priced individually. Our ingredients are all from local suppliers and are cooked to order. I am sorry you did not pass on this feedback to the supervisor on the evening. I am sure we could have recified your dissatisfaction if we knew your feelings then. I am certainly glad you enjoyed your overall stay in the hotel, Kind regards Emer Corridan General Manager

From the moment we arrived the ambience, old world charm was evident. Food was superb and service was excellent. However, charging €18 for 2 portions of potatoe and 1 portion of vegetables for 3 was excessive. Steak was 2 small pieces at €42 and 2 monkfish at €36 each (€72). Should be included with the mains course. Otherwise we had an excellent meal. Staff were fantastic. Had a drink in the drawing room afterwards but had to go to reception to order.

This was not our first time at the Herbert Restaurant but it has been a couple of years and it did not disappoint. We had very high expectations after our last visit and this time was even better, if that's possible. All courses were superb. I have eaten in Michelin star restaurants and this experience was as good if not better than some. I had the rabbit to start and duck for main course, followed by the raspberry and white chocolate dessert. Each course including aperitif were sublime. The duck particularly was beautifully cooked and the best I have ever had. My husband had the scallops and stonefish and was extremely impressed.

Dining at Herbert's Restaurant is a beautiful experience. We chose this restaurant during our stay in Killarney because we were staying at the Cahernane House - an excellent choice of accommodation and restaurant. The food was incredible, the service was pleasant, and the ambience of the restaurant was classy and quiet. We felt welcomed and were extremely pleased with the entire experience.

Outstanding dinner in every way. The menu was creative, the food excellently prepared and beautifully presented. My wife enjoyed fillet of beef prepared two ways while I had a similar dish with Lamb two ways. The fish offers were equally interesting. Dinner is served in a beautiful classic dining room with plenty of space between tables and soft music. The service was attentive and polite. Overall an amazing dining experience!
