Was recommended Hinnies by the local micro brewery owners. Great recommendation. No idea from outside of excellent food and relaxing interior. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking for very good food and great value with friendly staff.
Waited 10 minutes or more for 1 course of wine and a soft drink. Main course was pleasant but not asked how l wanted my lamb cooked which was slightly over cooked. Dessert of summer pudding was rather stodgy and not particularly pleasant - a bit disappointed overall
I like this restaurant good service and the price of the food is cheaper than stated. The dishes are tasty and different choices. The view is the best.
Interesting and well prepared dishes and professional service
Excellent restaurant in all respects.
Couldn't fault it in any way.
Not up to the usual standards but we won’t write it off.
we had a 2 course meal. Starter was very tasty. The main course was also very good and the portions were large. Waiters were very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu when I had questions about the menu. you may feel it took some time for the food to come however the quality of the food made up for the wait time.
Unfortunately our experience at Hinnies was spoilt by the proximity of two large family groups who had several children with them, they created a lot of noise and caused the staff to be so busy we didn't get our sweet until an hour and a half after our main course!
The staff were apologetic, in the end we couldn't wait to get out!
Staff were friendly & venue is quirky. Nice views of the sea. Portions are large. Had fish & chips, as at seaside, but one portion had lot of bones in. Mine didn't have any. Coffee overpriced.
Delicious food. Good menu choice and good value. Just a shame we had to wait too long to be served.
Amazing food, everything looked fantastic and tasted delicious. Attentive service and didn’t feel rushed even though we arrived late for our booking. My favourite restaurant in the area.
The food was very poor for the main course I had fish and chips chips The chips were over cooked with a burnt taste My husband and daughter had the pan haggerty which they felt was soggy and tasteless We had to send back the Aperol drinks which were flat and filled with soda water No fruit
Very disappointing as we always have a good meal at Hinnies The price was expensive for the poor quality of food we received Sorry won’t be going back which is a real shame as we have had some lovely occasions there in the past
Venue, service was excellent . I had crab fish cakes as a main course but they were tasteless. I could not see crab anywhere.
Food was excellent as was the service. We got the set menu and thought this was a very reasonable price. Would highly recommend.
I went with my parents as they were celebrating their 56th wedding anniversary. They had a lovely time at Hinnies. The food was delicious and good value for money. The staff were warm and welcoming and nothing was a bother. We would definitely return and I would recommend Hinnies to friends and family.
Having dined quite a few times at Blackfriars and Dobson & Parnell, I was really looking forward to trying Hinnies for the first time. Sadly, my experience was very disappointing and - had I not known in advance - I would never have made the connection with its two sister restaurants. I ordered 'fish & chips' from the menu and was presented with oily, tasteless chips and fish coated in a soft batter. Nothing about the dish was appealing and I have had far better meals from my local chippy. Given my experience, I will not be making a return visit and won't be recommending this venue to any of my friends.
The food at Hinnies was fabulous. Some of the best liver and bacon I have tasted with an interesting and delicious selection of poached vegetables
My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The starter of black pudding with egg and celeriac salad we couldn’t fault. For mains I can honestly say it’s possibly the best liver I’ve ever eaten !
It was so tender and tasted delicious. The lemon and ginger cheesecake however was a little disappointing. For one, It wasn’t the texture of a cheesecake, and the flavour was so subtle had I been blindfolded I most certainly wouldn’t have described the flavours as lemon or ginger.
The staff were very friendly and efficient. And I thought the decor was tastefully done.
I nice restaurant with welcoming staff.
As it was a Sunday we went for the roast which was reasonably tasty but not outstanding.
A bit noisy due to one or two child diners.
Extremely accommodating staff when an issue arose with credit cards.
We will be returning albeit in the evening next time.
Absolutely lush Sunday dinner will definitely be back
Excellent experience. Sunday lunch, very good value, the Northumberland beef so tender and the pomegranate jelly with peach soup and marshmallow delicious. The gin was pretty good too!
My husband was equally pleased with his Durham pork followed by cherry bakewell.
The staff were all welcoming with a quiet efficiency.
This was our second visit to Hinnies (previously midweek) and I am sure we will be back.
Enjoyed our evening at Hinnies. There was a nice atmosphere and the food was very good.
Some time since we've been and pleased to see the piano has gone as somewhat overpowering.
Will certainly be back again
Really lovely locally inspired dishes. The service was amazing with a very relaxed ambience. I will definitely be coming back again
Excellent 3 course meal at lunchtime and fantastic vale at £16 per person - with an extensive choice rather than a limited set menu like some restaurants. Highly recommended.
Good food and a fair price. Would recommend it to any one for a good meal and ambiance.
Good food and food service as always. Will be back again.
Outstanding as always. One of our favourites. We will definitely keep coming.
First visit, upon lots of recommendations, but disappointing. Some of the food like the fish cake was delicious but others not so much. Fish soup needed seasoning, the potatoes in the pan Haggerty were solid, the fish and chips were average and the liver was not fresh. Service was slow and nobody asked if we were enjoying the meal. The waiter seemed offended when we said the liver was not fresh. Fresh liver is firm when cooked but this was mushy. The waiter said that it was fresh in that morning, rather than just apologise. He said he would speak to the chef but nothing more was said and there was no concession, we left feeling as if we were in the wrong for daring to say something. Overall not good which was disappointing as we had heard so many good things.
Relaxed atmosphere with a good friendly vibe. Food was served hot and delicious, love the cauliflower cheese on the Sunday Roast....and caters well for children. Will definatley return.
Great atmosphere and good range of vegetarian options.
It was good to have a local place to go to in Whitley Bay. I decided to go after a diner left the restaurant whilst I was admiring the menu earlier in the week. His words were: "Get yourself in there. You won't go wrong!". How right he was.
It is a lovely place inside; very relaxed, which is just how I like it. The staff were superb - attentive, efficient and polite.
I had the goat's cheese to start with, and, although they did not have the beetroot as advertised, I was told that the chef would make up a different version of the goat's cheese starter. It was lovely. I have never had goat's cheese that smooth and creamy.
The burger was superb - one of the best I have tasted for a while, and, as the portion sizes were huge, it meant for the first time in a long while, I could indulge in a sweet. That isn't a criticism, but a comment about good portion control. I personally hate food piled on a plate. The sorbets were not to my girlfriends liking, but they were to mine - nice and sour.
For the record, my girlfriend had a rabbit suet pudding as her mains, something she had not eaten in years. There was nothing left on her plate, which was then same as my son, who had plumped for the calves liver. Another empty plate.
It was also good to see some local bottled beers as well as a reasonable wine list. The pinot grigio was lovely.
We enjoyed it so much, that we went the next day (it was a full chill out weekend for the pair of us). The calves livers were a delight then...
I definitely would return to try more dishes and it is on my doorstep!
Fab food and very reasonably priced, with great service
Overall an excellent evening with good food.
Beginning of night spoilt by inattention of staff who were all involved in preparing tables for large party.
Excellent choice of food, beautifullypresented. Excellent service , very pleasant staff .
Would definitely visit again.
Excellent food served by really friendly and helpful staff.
All of our expectations were met. Very calming and welcoming service left us pleasantly relaxed and happy with our experience. Food was fantastic, although a few things were out of stock. This didnt spoil anything as what was available was delicious and cooked to perfection.
We dined on the early bird menu and the food was delicious however the bill was priced from the a la carte menu. This was quickly corrected when we pointed it out.
The food was tremendous, Excellent Menu
The staff were so friendly and very experienced.
We will definitely be visiting the restaurant again.
Very pleasant ambience, nice comfort food very friendly staff
We met up with old friends here for an annual re-union ............ we were eager to impress our friends from out of the area, and we were not disappointed. Excellent from start to finish and very friendly.
Friends were impressed............. and so were we to have found this gem!
