Hispi never fails to meet the high expectations we have based on our memory from our last visit which can sometimes be 9-12 months ago! Service is excellent and the food is fantastic. I couldn’t fault the Crottin or the Featherblade but the Custard Tart was out of this world (and I don’t even normally like custard tarts!). I could have chosen any one of the desserts on the menu but the waiter recommended the custard tart and he wasn’t wrong! Can’t wait for another reason to visit.
Each dish was done to perfection - presentation and flavour wise. The standard is consistently high and makes other restaurants pale into insignificance.
Lovely Saturday lunch. Highly recommend it to all. Great service and great food.
Always great food and service. The lamb to start was awesome
Wonderful food, cooked and presented with real flair but at the same time, the menu has comforting favourites on it that you actually want to eat, it's not just put together so the the chef can show off. I liked that the fancy drinks menu includes low alcohol and no-alcohol options. The ambiance and service are perfect - you feel relaxed and looked after but it's not at all stuffy, just like a quality neighbourhood bistro should be.
it was a delight to find this restaurant, where the menu combines originality with excellent food. We have already been recommending it to others, & my wife has already made 1 return visit with a friend.
We came here for my Dad’s birthday and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating (even when we annoyingly asked for one of them to take a picture, haha!). The food was lovely, wine was great and the whole meal was a hit with the rest of the family.
Particular highlights were the desserts - the donut and plum crumble were BEAUT!
We ate a roast and as a roast lover I was really impressed, everything was seasoned perfectly and the meat was the perfect shade of pink! A hit. Thank you x
Lovely modern food in a fresh and pleasant setting. Good value and flawless service.
Excellent as always. This place doesn’t do “good” - everything is fantastic.
Amazing food and service. Beautiful drinks and the feather blade streak and chips are to die for! Both had a desert, ring donut and the blackberries and ice cream sandwich! Awesome! We’ll definitely be back!
Great food, efficient and friendly service. Definitely one to revisit.
Average to good restaurant. We had bit hit and miss experience, the miss being food quality rather than staff or restaurant - which were good.
4 of us dined here on Saturday Lunch. 2 set menus and 2 a la Carte.
Set Menus - Soup and pate starter - well received. Pork for mains on set menu - well received.
On the A la carte, had the agnolotti crab pasta, which was very well presented, but taste wasn't great, tasted like crab paste, rather than fresh crab, overpowering taste of fish in the agnolotti. Genuinely surprised it had made it out of kitchen if the chef had tried them. The Gnocchi for main was again very well presented, but fairly tasteless and stodgy given the extra large size of the gnocchi (gnocchi is always a fine line).
Overall, experience was that they'd done a lot of work on presenting food, but lacked people tasting food behind the scenes. Would suggest they try to simplify some of the dishes and just focus on taste, rather than over-complicating for a nice presentation. Restaurant was busy, so maybe we just got unlucky on our dishes.
Everything on the menu sounded lovely so I asked the charming waiter to chose for us - good call. Food was delicious and a lively buzzy atmosphere.
Delicious food, with different combinations not tried before. Good service and ambience.
Excellent food and a really amazing meal for a birthday celebration! Catered brilliantly for my coeliac disease with a personalised gluten free menu!
A sensational meal and excellent value. We will be back!
Delicious food, kind and attentive staff. A delightful evening!
As expected Hispi continues to provide high quality food at affordable prices, couple that with first class friendly service means it's a total 'no brainer' on where to eat within the Didsbury area.
Best sunday lunch ever.
Apple and plum crumble.
The venue was easy to get to (3 mins from Didsbury Village tram stop. The staff were friendly and not intrusive, the food was excellent. I am looking forward to my next visit and have recommended to friends as a "must try".
Excellent food and service. Good location not the cheapest but given quality of food/service worth it.
Food was really excellent and it was a pleasant change to eat in a restaurant where we could converse at the table and hear each other speaking.
Service was a bit on the slow side though.
Good value Sunday lunch menu.
Overall very good.
Loved it! It was a special treat for my son who’s about to turn 13! He thought it was ‘sic’ the staff were fabulous , especially with him making it a memorable experience and the food of course was amazing
Great food and experience. Good wine and beer. Really excellent service. Fish head starter was outstanding.
Brilliant meal, fantastic service in Didsburys most charming restaurant.
So glad to have this lovely restaurant in Didsbury. The food is delicious and consistently good. It's a banker whenever friends come to stay and we want to go out locally. Lucky us!
Lovely menu choice. Food beautifully presented and all dishes had a clever twist, introducing ingredients together that were unusual and surprisingly good. Excellent service and ambience and highly recommended. We will be back.
Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch - always outstanding at Elite Bistros
A very very pleasant evening. Welcoming, excellent service with simple well chosen dishes. Would be very happy to return there.
First visit for me, food exquisite in every way.
Can’t wait to go again, their signature Custard Tart was sublime.
Service and ambience perfect.
We had a really enjoyable lunch at Hispi and the service was very warm and welcoming. We had come here on a recommendation and we weren't disappointed. We shared the light bites and a starter - the bread is divine- all really enjoyed those and also enjoyed our mains. The vegetarian gnocchi and squash option was really tasty and a nice change from having to have salad or something deep fried. The deserts were so good! Eccles cake loaded with fruit and a very generous helping of cream and the ice cream sandwich with the olive oil biccies. A really nice ambience even at a quiet lunchtime. Would definitely recommend.
Great service, lovely food something bit different. Really enjoyed it, been a few times, never disappoints.
Spectacular food and service - tried all of the appetisers, brilliant, then lamb belly and onto trout. Well fed, tasty food and properly looked after. Thank you!
Excellent Bistro, more fine dining than humble Bistro
Best lamb EVER
Food was great, just think there could have been more, or we could have been told that the halibut we'd selected as the main meal didn't come with any carb or veg on the side (it was just a piece of fish, a sauce and 3 small mushrooms). We couldn't fault the taste of the meal, just think if you're going to charge £30 for a main meal, it needs to be a full meal that will fill you up, it shouldn't be dependent on additional sides you have to pay for to complete it.
All the courses we had were delicious and left you wanting more.
3 stars overall but ALMOST 5 stars. Reasons as follows:
- The first thing you want to achieve is to make your guests comfortable. This is a minimum. When we were shown to our table, we couldn't help but notice it was one of those small, cheap highstreet cafe types. Wobbly and with barely enough room for 2 plates and 4 elbows. Larger tables for 2 person tables would make a big difference. Higher quality tables throughout would be a benefit.
- The food was really good, the presentation was excellent. You could really tell that the kitchen staff have thought about their menu and that they care. The one point of failure was that there was too much salt. I understand salt helps bring out flavour but there is a level at which it overpowers all other taste. I have no doubt that the produce is all of the highest quality, but neither me nor my partner were able to tell as both our meals were heavily over salted.
If these two points hadn't been noticed, this would have been an easy 5 star.
I wish them well.
Second time at Hispi, lovely place, lovely staff. Had the Burrata and carrot starter followed by the special, Gurnard with langoustine sauce. Both were divine.
Heartbroken that the custard tart wasn’t available as it had sold out!!!!😥
Daughter had feather blade which she declared would be her deathbed meal!
Great food great service
I’d take those battered onions off though-zero sophistication to those and not what I was hoping for from the description!!
