Lovely place to eat dinner! Food was fantastic and they were very accommodating with my (many) intolerances. Thank you so much. Very impressed with the social distancing and the staff service too. All so polite and friendly. Will be back soon!
As the song goes ....Easy like Sunday morning. Nothing too much effort
Great food, great service - will be going again soon
Wonderful brunch, attentive staff, fabulous expresso martinis :)
Been to Hixon Green before, with good food and service. Unfortunately this wasn't the case this visit with regards to quality of food and service not up to previous standard.
Menu has changed and most of breakfast options are egg based. No full English anymore. Given option to have sauce on side but came out all over meal. My meal I was unable to eat. Sautéed potatoes were more like boiled new potatoes swimming in butter and water. This was supposed to be a hash bowl.
We did complain and they offered to replace and with an apology, also discounted the bill but I had to rush of to work and left hungry. Veryvdissapointing. Not sure if it's changed hands.
It's just never quite right when I go here. I don't know who trains the staff but they need to do a better job. This is the second business meeting I've planned here and it's embarrassing when the venue you choose just doesn't work. Ordered a jug of water - we got glasses (every other table had jugs/carafes) - no explanation. We sat down at 11am for coffees with a view to ordering food slightly later and explained this to the initial staff member. Ordered coffee and over the next 10 minutes 6 different staff members kept coming round to see if we wanted to order food - overkill. Are they on order commission? Then the opposite service level when we wanted to pay at the end - couldn't get anyone to come to us / make eye contact and give us the bill.
Great food, comfy seats, happy atmosphere and a good location
Excellent service. Burger and chips delicious. Bruschetta had lots of tomatoes, I would of liked some onion on it. Best coffee I have had by far around Brighton and Hove.
The restaurant is so beautiful and the food was amazing I would really love to go again.
The only down side was the waitress who served us was absolutely miserable. It took her about 20 minutes to come to us to us to take our order so me and my friend ended up chatting away and when she came we asked for 1 minuets to recap the menu, She then didn’t return for another 15 minutes baring in mind the restaurant was not busy at all she had walked past us several time picking things up from other tables on the way. At this point we were STARVING and we had to wave her down!
We then got our food which was amazing I must say but the waitress then didn’t bother to return with our bill we almost thought the food was free!
We spent 2 and a half hours almost 3 in a restaurant that we should of only been in for an hour...
Great service, great atmosphere and nice food. Thank you!
Love this venue, sadly always find the service very disappointing, staff always looking like they rather not be there, don’t listen to orders, something always comes wrong .
First visit and won’t be the last - loved our meal and so well organised with social distanced tables etc xx service was great and no long waits x party of five - lovely family meet up can’t wait to revisit ❤️
Used to love this place but didn’t think the food was up to scratch at all
A lovely setting but sadly service was terrible, we were stuck at the back round a corner and forgotten about, took 45 mins for someone to serve us. Then food was average/ok, would not bother going back
Really good food and very good service. Good for a breakfast venue
The food was good (starters and main), apart from the coffee, which I cannot recommend at all (It tasted OK but wasn't made well - not enough pressure). There is not a lot to choose from on the menu.
Staff appears inexperienced in restaurant service. The place was only half-full but several customers were kept waiting to be served, and some had to call out a staff member just to be able to order something. All the while, the staff weren't really busy, some kept chatting to each other, others avoided eye contact while walking around, which was very annoying. They do not accept American Express, apparently.
Very busy and popular restaurant, hence the delay in service. Otherwise good bearing in mind that they're operating a reduced menu.
Nice ambiance but the kitchen didn’t read our order properly so we had to return our food, which wasn’t very good when it arrived the second time. In fact everything was inedible. The waiter kindly offered us a macaroon on the house and emphasised how cheap our bill was - this was because of the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme, not because their prices. So we won’t be returning to eat, old recommend sticking to coffee or drinks.
The Government eat out scheme made this value for money. Allowing for this my partners poached eggs were over cooked on the Eggs Royale.
It’s difficult to provide a fully objective overview owing to the circumstances eateries are having to operate in.
Good food. and service and well laid out to ensure Covid secure measures. Bit noisy but guess that was because many, like us, were taking advantage of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which made this great value.
We visited as a couple. We both chose the vegetarian burger option with fries and a side salad (parmesan and rocket). We followed this up with the Eton Mess.
All the food was promptly served. Service was friendly and efficient and the prices were obviously excellent because of EOHO.
First time we had been there and hopefully we'll go again soon.
Our lunch was great ! Delicious food & very efficient service !! Definitely we will book it again .
Service was rather dismissive but menu was good and food was very nice. Setting really good. Shame they weren’t really interested in us being there.
Hixon Green is a great bar with a lot of ambiance and good atmosphere. Service was good too.
The food wasnt upto their usual
high standards, we had chicken burgers which weren't flavoured very well. I'm sure this is an oversight and they'll be back to normal again soon.
This was my first visit to Hixon Green. My party had a couple of dietary issues and two young children, but the menu was comprehensive enough for us all to have a suitable meal, which we all enjoyed. The service was excellent, helpful but not intrusive. They have managed the restaurant well to cope with the Covid regulations.
Seated early, exceptional food
Food was ok different to the menu I looked at I thought it was a bit more refined than it was it was a bit loud all I could hear was a lad f in and jefing 2 tables away
The staff were disinterested, verging on rude and when they finally gave us any attention, they gave us menus on two occasions and never came back to take the order. I wouldn’t mind if they were really busy but there were empty tables. This is the second time I’ve experienced this and I’m now not planning to return which is such a shame because the food and venue are lovely!
The venue is good and staff very good Food very plain
Booked 2 X 6 tables for a family mixture of adults and children. Menu choices are very good and all orders met with satisfaction.
Always great and attentive staff
I understand that the menu will be a little more limited on a EOTHO night but I thought that the menu was too limited. Hence, I'm not sure that we will return on a EOTHO night as there will be little choice for us to try something else.
I’m glad it was eat out to help otherwise I wouldn’t of been happy to pay full price. The drinks came and my glass had hair in- tried to get attention from the waiter but that was a losing battle- so had to go up and stand at the bar. When food came they forgot that we asked for extras and again... we had to go up to tell them. Food overall nice, service absolutely shocking - it was like they had the work experience staff in. For the price and the location you expect more....
Nice food and lovely decor. Staff were a bit grumpy and I wasn't keen on the fact they let dogs inside given that it has a slightly more up market vibe.
The breakfast here is great but dinner was just ok. Service wasn’t great, food was average, and although we got a discount due to eat out to help out, the price would have been way too high full price.
Great food options, everyone was happy with their meal. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Social distancing was evident and tables well spaced out. We were a larger table and were very accommodated. Happy to return!
Good food, but very poor service!
This is always the case whenever I eat at Hixon green. The food is always lovely but the service is terrible! You always have to get the attention of the waiters to get service! The restaurant wasn’t even full.
This was my 3rd time here and unfortunately it did not meet the usual standards. One member of staff was rude to my friend when she asked for an extra shot of coffee, telling her it should clearly be strong enough, which it was not and had less coffee in than there should have been in the iced latte being that it was very white/milky. After waiting for our food for nearly an hour we then questioned and find that our order was not put through properly (this member of staff was great and dealt with it getting our food pushed forward so it arrived promptly after). Then when the table was cleared we asked for the bill and the woman said she’d bring it over, completely forgot and was staring at our table and looking around bored for ages so we had to ask again. Then my friend was charged for the missing shot from her coffee (luckily the man who gave us the bill had seen her coffee and said it was not right so he took the money off). We had been told that our bill would be reduced after our order not being put through but this was not done. considering it wasn’t very busy and there was plenty of staff working, the service was appalling.
Everything was fine
Menu and food was average the stagg were helpful and attentive.
