Home Sweet Home - Great Northern
Sadly we were very disappointed with our visit, I had invite my parents & for the following reasons we would not recommend
The coffee we ordered arrived sloshed in the saucer with no apologies or even attempt to put right (we had to use tissues to sort out ourselves)
All 3 portions of fries were cold when delivered, these were changed, but obviously some of our meal had already been eaten. Again no proper apology as though the staff really were bothered
Uncomfortable seating, dry chicken with over seasoned chips and congealed gravy. I have had better food at KFC which was also better value for money in comparison! Pleasant and friendly service however, and nice milkshakes. Overall, disappointing, sadly.
We booked a table for lunch on a Saturday. The food took an hour to come (chicken burrito and a burger) and one meal was cold when it came. To avoid the other meal being cold that was eaten in the meantime which meant we ate separately. Waiting staff really were awesome, so apologetic. Just let down by the kitchen staff I think.
Giving the benefit of the doubt we went back for breakfast next morning as was handy for our hotel and sadly similar experience. 45 minutes wait. Embarrassed but highly attentive waiting staff let down by the kitchen again. All I wanted was a portion of toast....£1.50 for one slice (??) already buttered. We definitely won’t be back which is a shame as the place could be great.
Great food. Good choice. Nice place. Have been before and will def go again.
But the service could be a lot slicker. A lot of staff stood around chatting and having a lovely time rather than clearing tables and taking drinks orders.
Tasty good with generous portions. Service could have been slightly more attentive. The ladies toilets were a mess and the dining floor was dirty and needed a good sweep which was a surprise for a quiet Sunday lunch time.
Great food and service. Friendly staff, will be back!
Far too loud. Staff had no control over a very loud table next to us.
Bad service. Waited ages to be seated, even though we reserved. Food take a while too.
Small portions. Expensive prices.
And 3 items we ordered we forgotten.
Got home to realise we were charged for one extra item we never even ordered.
New chefs meant food was slow and cold when it arrived. The service however was very good and food was replaced & a free round of drinks.
Terrible service. 2 of our table were served and had finished their before the rest came out, the last to come was the children’s meals too! We ended up getting our own high chairs and menus as it was taking so long. The food was just about warm when it did arrive, it seemed that it had been sat there for a while. It took well over 20 minutes to even receive our drinks. Horrific attitude from the male host in the outside area, completely unapologetic, slouched over, I’d say he was probably hungover and it showed. When I asked him where the rest of my party’s food was and if he could chase it up he said, ‘I can’t leave this spot so no I can’t chase it up, and the restaurant is full that’s why you’re waiting.’
If you don’t have the staff and facilities to deal with orders then you really shouldn’t be taking on extra tables. I certainly won’t be going back.
Excellent for breakfast. Would not recommend for dinner.
We booked for a late dinner (9pm) for 3 people so the restaurant was not especially busy and there were plenty of staff. Our drinks orders were very slow to arrive and we had to ask for tap water 3 times. Two of us had steak. Both were over cooked and one had been over seasoned; all you could taste was salt. The restaurant gave us fresh steak and apologised and this come out quite quickly.
Portion sizes were very generous, which was good. Chicken gravy was delicious. We also had cake to take away for later as we were too full. The cake was lovely. Sadly, I don't think we'd come again for dinner, only for breakfast.
I had the vegan tofu wrap which said the tofu was in a sticky bbq sauce when it fact it was not cooked and not in any sauce
