Sunday lunch, superb food, drink, dessert and service
Definitely will revisit
Superb service and excellent food. Marvellous gluten free selection and the homemade bread was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended and will definitely be coming back here
We enjoyed an excellent meal. You need to order two to three dishes each so it is based on a tapas model although I would not say it is strictly a tapas restaurant. Each of the dishes served was of excellent quality, well presented and extremely well cooked. Wine choices were good and overall I would say that the cost was extremely reasonable. Our meal was around £30 a head for two dishes each and one side order, a dessert each and a good bottle of wine. In Ilkley, aside from the Box Tree, there are very few restaurants that serve really good food. I would say two or three and this is one of them.
Booked with friends from out of area and had an excellent evening at Host.
We thought the food was delicious: perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Our waitress, Melinda, was super and gave very helpful guidance on how many dishes we might need.
The meal was on the pricey side, so we would probably choose it for an occasional treat rather than as a regular destination; and we did have almost all the main course dishes on the menu, so we hope the menu will be changed regularly to avoid boredom!
We loved the decor (gorgeous blue walls) and the restaurant was impressively busy, if a little noisy at times.
Overall, a real culinary treat, thank you!
Really delicious lick the plate clean kind of food!
The staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu. The food was delicious and a bit different. The space is lovely, spacious and stylish. We would definitely return.
The meal was excellent with 4 people sharing most of the dishes, would probably struggle if we returned too soon unless the menu was changed
Never eaten here before . visited with a girlfriend at lunchtime. There was one very noisy birthday group and another pair of women. The restaurant echoes all noise. My friend moved to another side of the table to be able to hear me speak
Bleak unwelcoming place and the food was dreadful. We had a "plate" of fishcakes each . hardly any fish in. Mushy we ate them because we were hungry. My other plate was a carrot. Who are you kidding. A glazed carrot ???! We were asked if we had enjoyed our meal ... No, and explained why.
We will never eat here again and cannot reccomend.
The food was, quite simply, outstanding!! Can’t wait to come back.
Excellent food and service. Had a celebratory lunch not having been before and we were not disappointed
The food was fantastic. We were very impressed. Service was excellent too. Only disappointment was the ambience as there weren’t many other diners, so it was a little quiet.
Superb food. Astonishing combinations of flavours. Very good value for this standard of cooking. Wine list fairly priced. Staff both friendly and efficient. Wonderful experience.
Whilst t he cooking is good, the portion sizes are too small. The tapas idea just is not working.
I would like to suggest a different menu
Really delicious food, friendly staff, reasonably priced. Would happily visit again.
Highly recommended. My one negative comment would be that it gets quite noisy in the restaurant with everyone's chatter reverberating off the hard surfaces.
Delicious interesting food. Beautifully presented. Service was attentive and friendly. Warm and welcoming. But not over the top.
Lovely interesting food for people who can’t decide - have a small dish of everything!
Group of 3 on a Friday evening, pleasing decor except for the hanging curtain rail, warm, friendly service but not quite as ‘smart’ as might be anticipated for the venue. We were happy with the small plates concept on which the restaurant is based and the dishes were generally well executed. Maybe a few more ‘main’ plates could be added to the menu to increase choice. We selected fried chicken, lamb rump and hake as ‘main’ dishes, preceded by 4 snacks and accompanied by 3 small plate vegetables. Also a decent bottle of white wine. We shared 2 deserts which were especially enjoyable by virtue of their originality. We skipped coffees. The bill for the evening was just over £100, so about £33pp which we considered fair for the overall quality of the food and restaurant ambience.
Overall impression, an enjoyable meal and an experience but not quite living up to expectations raised by a recent outstanding Yorkshire Post review. The competition is intense these days and Host is well placed to be ‘up there with them’ but may need to adopt a slightly more professional style of service, increase meat and fish menu options and styles, eg brochettes, pasta, ensure sauces are consistently flavoursome, but without hiking charges. Just our opinion, of course, and we expect to return and wish Host every success in the future.
Lovely restaurant, food excellent
Four of us had a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Host. The atmosphere was great, lively without being overpowering and just the right level of lighting. The staff were very professional and discreet in their service. We ordered most of the main plates and they came steadily in groups of three or four which we shared and enjoyed every one of them. I particularly liked the sea trout, the carrots and the chicken. Our only disappointment was that we ordered the sharing steak dish which unfortunately had run out but was still on the menu given to us. My son and his wife, who are used to high-end dining in London, were hugely impressed and are looking forward to another meal her when they next visit. A hugely successful night.
I really enjoyed the food as its fabulous quality. I really enjoyed the carrot dish and I would have loved another one as it was so good.
Service was fine but maybe could have been more attentive - we did have to ask several times for a water refill. Our only real niggle is that the restaurant is really noisy and we struggled to hear our selves - I do think the restaurant could do more to improve the acoustics
Excellent food, good service, and reasonably priced. My only negative is that the acoustics made it very noisy at peak times.
Great food and wine. Lovely evening. Shame about the noise and nowhere to put coats.
The food was very good but took a long time to get even though the restaurant was not busy.
Conversation was difficult even though I asked for the loud music of no particular style to be turned down as we had a speaker just above our heads.
Back room cold and glum atmosphere as painted Dark Blue.
Can not recommend and will not be returning
This was our first visit and we were pleased to discover such an imaginative menu - with a range of dishes that should suite most palates and appetites. Our food was perfectly cooked and nicely presented. The atmosphere was pleasantly relaxed, complimented by very efficient, friendly and attentive service. Prices of both food and wine were very reasonable and offered good value for money. We will definitely make a return visit.
Another excellent meal and great service at Host 👏🏼Congrats Joel and his team 😁
Amazing food at Host on Saturday night- will be back again soon! Also fantastic service
Food and service were fantastic.
Gents toilets were a disgrace.
The food is consistently excellent and even better, there's a very well priced wine list with some unique choices on there. Very comfortable restaurant. Order 3-4 courses per head, or just have a load delivered and share around your table. Fabulous.
Another wonderful meal at Host. We had the one snack dish, four main dishes and dessert too. Everything was gluten free with items adapted where needed. Great flavours and perfect service. This is my third visit and I will be back again!
We went as a group of 4 on Saturday evening having seen positive reviews.
The staff were great, and the food was brilliant. We sampled a number of the dishes on the menu, and couldn’t fault it. Finished with an amazing chocolate and dark cherry dessert. The wine was reasonably priced as well. Would definitely recommend.
Food delicious and service excellent. First time at Host and would definitely go back.
We all really enjoyed the food and thought it was imaginative, different and good value. The only downside was that the restaurant was quite noisy and it became difficult to talk when it filled up later on.
fabulous evening meal for 4 - we ordered everything off the menu to try! Some dishes came with 3 portions but fine amongst friends! We will be back - recommend for a special occasion as it is a real treat. Didn't try deserts as too full but they looked good.
Visited last Saturday, restaurant was busy and noisy but that’s ok! Waitress explained its small plates and recommend sharing, suggest 2-3 plates each, problem was there are only 9 dishes! Once ordered, food arrived very quickly which could be good or maybe it was just waiting to be plated up! Olives were nice and plentiful, Lamb was nice, charred mackerel was a real tiddler not even a mouthful for £8, chicken was nice, bbq beets were ok, raspberry parfait was very average, wine was expensive . Staff were ok, but all kids, as far as I could see no front of house, felt a bit like a “chain” restaurant . Think this is quite new so good luck to them. Best food in Yorkshire, Waterside, Shipley
This is our third visit to Host, this time we took friends. You really cant knock the food it is tasty and great value for money. However whilst the service is friendly it is slow and can be a little hap-hazard at times. If the service had been better I would have give a five star rating. Also we ordered wine by the glass and the first three choices we made we were told they had sold out!!
Without doubt the best restaurant in Ilkley and the surrounding area. Fabulous food, attentive staff could be better.
Poor table allocated, despite several more suitable ones being available on a quiet night. Asked to be moved to the empty window seat, which was readily sorted.
Service initially good, but then evaporated. Wine was served for tasting and then we were left to pour ourselves ( I actually don’t mind this, though it is unusual )
Food OK, but nothing special. Portions reasonable and generally as described.
Bill did not include any so-called discretionary service charge - very good !
Third visit there, though first for dinner. Bother lunches were much better.
The food is delicious and worth the visit. I requested a quiet table but my request was not communicated to Host via Open Table. I ordered 2 portions of broccoli but had to wait ages for the second one to arrive. The portion size of broccoli was pathetically small and not enough for 3 people to share. We got one floret between us! Last time it was a whole plateful! Disappointing as this was my favourite dish. Perhaps they were running out?
I like the variety and flavours of food at Host but they really need to rethink vegetable portion sizes and bring the same dishes together if customers order more than one. I am returning on July 19th for dinner. Let’s hope it improves by then!
Imaginatively created dishes with ingredients that blended together beautifully, all with an interesting and very tasty twist. Accompanied by excellent wine, friendly service and great ambience. We'll be back.
