What Insiders Are Saying
Hotel Chantelle is where you go when it's your 21st birthday and you need to dance because your internship is totally stressing you out.
The hosts at the front gave us a hard time when we added one extra person but the manager came to our table and handled it. Very nice guy !
The restaurant made us wait at the bar for 30 minutes before seating us at one of the tables that had been sitting open behind us the entire time. There were several open tables that remained open the entire time we were dining there (so, not reserved).
Came here for Sunday brunch . Must bring I.D as they ask for this on the door . Great little rooftop and the vibe was cool. We was sat near the bar which is where they have the live music . The live music is good but it was far too loud for such a small area and I couldn’t have a proper conversation with my friend. Service was a little slow and not very attentive and our server was very pushy in asking us to add a tip. Not sure if this is acceptable here as from the u.k. Overall experience pretty good but let down slightly by the service
Went to Hotel Chantelle with my wife and her sister to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The staff was super friendly helpful in every way . Victoria who was one of the hostesses took great care of us knowing it was my wife’s birthday she sent us dessert and drinks . The food was excellent and the music was pumping . We went downstairs to watch the ufc fight it was a home run can not wait to go back .
830pm reservation - seated at 9pm got food at 10:20pm. Wasn’t happy.
We were sat 30 mins after our reservation. The host totally forgot about us, we got a “guess we missed you” email from open table so I don’t think we got checked in properly, when we followed up at the 15 min mark we were told any moment but then waited another 15 mins. Food took forever, drinks took forever. People were nice and waitress was apologetic but we were hungry and wanted a nice dinner out and safe to say this place is better for just drinks. Bar service was good. Food was good once it finally arrived but having plans after dinner we didn’t really get to enjoy had to immediately ask for check.
This was supposed to be a nice, leisurely brunch. My husband loves brunch. But, he usually works on Sundays, so it's never doable. This week, however, he had it off, and I was so excited. So, I found the perfect spot (or so I thought) to take him. Rooftop seating. What looked like a great menu. Well, let's just say, this is three hours we will never get back, nor ones that we'll ever look back on fondly as having been a great Sunday brunch. It was a completely ruined Sunday brunch, and a horrible way for him to spend a rare Sunday off.
There was a giant brown hair in the sauce on my burger. Our waitress disappeared for nearly a half hour, leaving us and two other tables waiting for our checks. And the manager was chatting at front and completley clueless about what was going on. The food that didn't have hair which was the lobster benedict was cold by the time we arrived. And the waitress never returned for me to order something else in place of my burger, cause she went MIA. So, I ended up not having any brunch.
And when the waitress returned, no apology. No nothing. Didn't even care that I'd been sitting there, now 90 minutes, never getting food to eat. My husband is also a server, and he is the king of over-tipping and understanding. Sunday brunch was the first time in 14 years, I've ever seen him leave less than 15%.
As we're walking out, we asked for a manager. Antonella, at the hostess stand is apparently the manager. But you'd never know it, since she never came into the restaurant. She just stood at the hostess stand, outside the restaurant chatting. I find that odd. The entire staff was aware our waitress disappeared. Why wasn't Antonella managing the situation. And why did she assure us that she would be in touch about this situation and never follow thru?
This was just all around BAD. RUN anywhere. Go to McDonald's around the corner. Just don't go to the Chantelle. You'll waste your money and probably leave like us, hungry, annoyed and dumbfounded
We made reservations there to watch the NYG football game. The upstairs was packed but where we were there were only a few people. You can not hear the game because a DJ was playing awesome music. It was loud and fun and a great time. I would go again. The food was great.
I was excited trying this place out especially when it was recommended by a lot of vloggers/bloggers.. indeed, it didn’t disappoint us at all. I especially liked the avocado toast and we both enjoyed the food so much. The sangria was the best! I like that the aftertaste i get from drinking this is so good, like a mild fruity but not soury taste.
Wonderful setting and I loved the live jazz music, Dandy Wellington and his band were extremely memorable and made a great ambiance. I would have liked some more vegan options on the menu!
Food was fine but everything else as horrible - all the people working were slow and rude and we got kicked out of our table after 1 hour. The hostess on the roof was horrible and absolutely rude and then downstairs we sat near the DJ which had a spotlight on our table and was loud. Once we got kicked out of our table we were absolutely furious - our entire meal the drinks came slow, we didn’t get any of the sauces we asked for, and the bus boy took our plate/glasses/cups before we were done. Don’t recommend this to anyone. Once we got kicked out of our table, there was no room at the bar (where they directed us) and we ended up leaving because we weren’t able to find space for our “complimentary drinks”. Horrible experience, terrible time and space management!!!!
I have never left a review anywhere before but everything about my recent experience was that awful. From the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out - it was a nightmare. I work in the industry and understand that these things happen & it was at the end of the shift but, come on. When I say everything went wrong, I mean EVERYTHING! It was just really bad and I'm honestly upset because I love going there but I'm not sure I'll make it back after this past Sunday.
Great Drinks, really good food, fun atmosphere, super loud!
Had a great time having brunch here both times. The food, the music, and the cocktails are amazing!
The food was amazing! Can’t complain about anything there. Our server was the absolute sweetest girl and very knowledgeable about the menu. Fun ambiance and decor, although I expected more people to be sitting for dinner. It’s definitely more of a happy hour+apps place. However, if you are dining in a group of 3-5, I would highly recommend dining tapas style, even if it is for dinner. The apps are incredible and if I could do it over I would’ve skipped my main and just got the apps. Overall, great experience and I’ll definitely be coming back.
We went for my bachelorette party! The service was amazing, the food was really good, and we had a blast! We loved the jazz band and the mimosas!
The service was less than ideal - area was understaffed and we constantly had to ask for things two or three times over. After waiting 20 minutes for two drinks ordered, we finally called the server over and cancelled the drinks, but she looked confused - she’d forgotten that we ordered anything at all.
Additionally, the bill came and our drinks weren’t discounted as advertised. After talking to the manager, he asked “but was the food good?” And shrugged at the other problems like they weren’t an issue.
After waiting another 20 minutes, we received no apology and one comped drink for the four of us. Having worked in the industry, I get that short staffed situations can happen but good customer service involves communicating and respecting the situations as they arise. We felt disrespected, ignored and frustrated. Would not recommend. Would not go again (which is sad because the atmosphere and band were amazing).
Once we got into the restaurant, the service was amazing. Luckily we made it that far into the restaurant because if I was rating it on the hostess, the restaurant would have gotten no stars. When the restaurant is almost empty and the hostess was rude and didn't want to seat us because we were late to our reservation (due to NYC transit), it's not a great start. However, once we sat down the waitress, food, drinks, and company were great.
Lovely birthday dinner with my finacé, our server was great! I had the chicken meatballs which were delicious and the skirt stake which was phenomenal. My finacé had the Chantelle salad and the drunk chicken which were great. Would definitely come back!
Good Music and great food. Very recommended for brunch.
Beautiful rooftop seating, great food, great service. Went for brunch on our anniversary and there was a jazz band playing, it was such a great experience. We will be back!
If your looking for a chill ambiance with GREAT food hotel Chantelle is great. We got the Mac and cheese and cheese fondant dip. A M A Z I N G !! The only down fall was our waiter was pretty busy so we didn’t get good service. But it happened it’s New York!
Very strict rules about brunch reservations. The hostess was a little rude and inconsiderate—we arrived a minute late past our grace period and she already gave up our table. At least the food was good, but definitely overpriced for the whole experience.
We went on a beautiful late summer day for rooftop brunch and it was everything we hoped it would be.
The setting is trendy, the ambiance is perfect. There was a live band and delicious frosé, best i've ever had. I got the burrata salad and the yogurt and granola. It was fantastic. The scene is very lively, and quite popular so DEFINITELY make reservations weeks in advance!
Very disappointed. Drinks very small for price. One drink had no alcohol in it. Request made on opentable to not add a certain spice, added in spite of request. Order was incorrect for one of the guests. Not brought in a timely fashion. Had to get up and ask server. Admitted that chef made an error. Noise level too loud to have a conversation.
No mention that to reach the restaurant that stairs were the only means.
Will not return there or recommend.
Thomas was absolutely amazing! The food was great! The ambiance was amazing! I will definitely go again!
We had a great time here! The food and service were great. My only complaint would be that the tables were super close together so we were a little cramped (but this is expected in NYC!) We’ll be back for sure!
Love the ambiance, live music, and overall aesthetic. Food is not noteworthy, but decent. We love coming here for the overall vibe. Hostesses are awful. They are impatient, rude, and pompous.
Absolutely loved celebrating my birthday there! Food was great & so was the company!
Third time I went to this restaurant. Worst experience.
I can only save the waiter, very kind.
Our 12th anniversary
Great ambiance - we were seated on the roof very friendly service. We loved the food - burata was amazing, steak and octopus delicious. The bar area was very crowded, but they have great happy hour.
The drinks were amazing and the food was very good. Loved the rooftop vibe!
horrible service. Not to mention they don't run on time with reservations either.
Extremely rude bouncers and servers etc. Would never return. Save your money and time and go to a better lowkey spot.
Three of us enjoyed brunch at Hotel Chantelle. They had a live band there on Saturday and we enjoyed the music as well. We appreciated the retractable dome because it had been raining earlier and then when the sun finally came out - it was rather warm all of a sudden. We would go back again...cute rooftop dining is a nice incentive.
The live music for Saturday brunch was excellent, the cocktails were well made, and the food was delicious! I always enjoy dining on the rooftop even when it rains. When the rain let up halfway through our meal they opened the roof to let the fresh air in and it was lovely.
The ambiance was very nice. There was a live singer with a lovely voice. The only issue we had was the wait time for 2 (but we did arrive 15 mins late) but they made it up to us with complimentary drinks!!
Everything was great until our waitress left (I guess for a break) although no one told us, so we were waiting around for a long time not knowing where she disappeared to. Ended up settling the bill with another waiter.
Such a fun brunch spot for our girls’ weekend! The rooftop is so cute, food is delicious and the staff are so friendly and vibrant. Great atmosphere and everything is instagramable. ;)
I was reuniting with a couple of friends I haven’t seen in four years and was hoping for a delightful and stress free night. The service ruined my entire experience. Our waiter only came to our table a total of three times, and after asking where he he has been he said, “he was busy”. Thankfully, another waiter helped us and apologized. That’s not what I expect when coming to this restaurant. I plan to never come back and I would recommend that something be changed.
Staff was unorganized when trying to seat us at our table when my girlfriend forgot her ID (no indication that this would be a problem for a dinner reservation at 7 PM), lots of walkie talkie action, trip downstairs to see bouncer, then upstairs again, then more walkie talkie action treated like we were not paying customers.
Pulled up an old scan of her ID used for an apartment application and was able to order a Tom Collins, though was served was definitively not a Tom Collins.
Food was overpriced. More of a club than a restaurant I am supposing. Would not recommend.
