With a fascinating history as a centre of the spice trade, Cumbrian cuisine has a rich heritage, and local specialities have long included exotic spices with favourites such as Cumberland sausage, potted shrimps, Grasmere gingerbread, and of course, sticky toffee pudding. At Gilpin there are two restaurants celebrating this tradition.

PRIVATE LUNCH + CINEMA OR SPORTS SCREENINGAt Gilpin Spice our private room is perfect for films and sports screenings for up to 12 people. Lunch is set up as you'd expect, and afterwards the room converts into a very comfy mini cinema with an ultra high definition screen – the tables are pulled away and you can relax on the sofa-like banquet seating with footstools pulled out to give that extra bit of comfort.We don't charge for the use of the room or the screen, it's included with the lunch when booked as such, but must be prebooked. The room can also be used for business meetings, set up boardroom style with the screen used as you wish.

We are visiting from NYC and celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at HRiSHi . After visiting friends, and several other Michelin rated restaurants in UK this trip , our expectations were high. The food, presentation and service well exceeded them! . For a very last minute booking due to several flight problems, we got a late reservation tonight. We had to deal with several flight and family issues upon arrival but everyone from our host to bartender made us feel more than welcome! From start to finish our meal was perfect. My husband had the soft shell crab for his first course and lobster/stone bass for entree. I had the quail to start and lamb as entree. Our meal was one of the best we’ve. See checked out Spice which will be a reservation for our next trip! Definitely a top restaurant in our multi-city visit back to the U.K.

The gilpin Lodge has a very nice setting in the country side around lake Windermere; the furnishing is really nice and the food was definitely to a very high standard. It's a bit expensive but you definitely get back what you pay for, so if you are into fancy eating that's definitely the restaurant to try in Windemere

The five-course meal for £58 at Gilpin Lodge was good value, with perfectly cooked seabass, delicious canapes and lovely little amuse-bouches and palate cleansers. However, on arrival, we were left for an hour before being taken to our table, with no explanation until we made a fuss. It seemed they had no table for us and as we weren't hotel guests, we weren't a priority. We were then offered nothing by way of compensation for the wait. Luckily the food saved the night from being ruined.

LeJardin Place de l'Hermitage, 6520 Le Touquet We did not visit Les Djuke's but went to their sister restaurant Le Jardin. This was only a 3 to 4 minute walk from our hotel The Westminster. It was a warm evening so we sat outside as did many of the other guests. The service was very good and the food excellent. We ate off the A La Carte which gave a very good choice both meat and fish. We had pre dinner drinks 3 courses and 2 bottles of a good Sancerre for 245 euros

Gilpin Lodge just outside Windermere is about as opulent a venue as is possible. Despite that, the food is beautifully presented, in reasonable quantity, and worth every penny. The multiple dining rooms make for a more intimate setting than the restaurant size might suggest and absolutely everything is thought of. The chef can cope with adjusting the menu for those who have dietary needs. Unusually, we could not find fault with it. This restaurant is outstanding but expensive.

On entrance our expectations together with the other reviews were high. However when presented with a preset £52 5 course menu and a barman from faulty towers expectations took a bit of a dent. The meal itself appeared to be a re-invention of haut cuisine with lots of little tasty nibbles but the main course was a serious flop. My venison consisted of 2 wee bits the size of a 10p bit and my wife's gnocchi was fried mash. Gave feedback only to be met with deafening silence.

The Gilpin Lodge is treat from the moment you walk in. The service is impeccable and the food just delicioous. The chefs treats in between the courses were also a delight. There's an excellent choice of local produce on the menu and he presentation excellent without being too over fussy. The bar area and restaurant areas have a great decor and ambience too. Edward was spot on with his wine suggestions and all the staff were infact just simply very good. .

Les Djukes in Le Touquet provided a very good lunch in pleasant surroundings. We enjoyed home made pate and foie gras, followed by tiger prawn brochette and scallops with crispy bacon served on a cauliflower puree. All delicious but the smooth richness of the foie gras was the best dish. Beautiful presentation throughout, friendly service. Prices in France are high now the exchange rate is bad for the Brits: the lot (with 1 kir and 1 glass of champagne) came to 90EUR w/o tip.

Les Djuke's was a real gem! There are lots of restaurants and bars in Le Touquet and booking with Top Table meant that we knew in advance what to expect. We were a mixed bunch of English golfers, some didn't want to try anything French and some of us did. Les Djukes catered for all!
