Humble Grape Islington
Tried this restaurant for the first time and ordered the veggie brunch. Food was OK - a lot more greasier than it needed to be. Toast was drenched in oil and halloumi was deep fried. Not going back anytime soon.
We came here for the Sunday roast (chicken and pork) and the chicken was really good. Came with a deal for some free wine when we ordered for 4 sets of Sunday roast. Ended with a lovely sticky toffee, highly recommended!
Was excited to have a neighbourhood wine bar, but am still looking for one after this experience. The food and wine were fine, but the waiter ruined the evening. I understand that his job is to get people to purchase more but he was pushy to the point that we were uncomfortable.
We put in our order and he insisted multiple times that we NEEDED the baked Camembert after I told him we definitely did not. We finally just said fine because he would not drop it. When we did not finish eating it because it was too much food and not that great, he wouldn't take our plates away until we finished everything because it was 'insulting to the chef to return food.'
When we ordered two desserts to split between three people, he told us that people should have their own desserts. We just laughed but he brought us three desserts (and charged us for all three). Any other night I would have said something, but this was a special occasion so I decided to let it go.
He also sat down at our table to talk multiple times without invitation. The worst part was when I tried to pay for the meal and he made a big deal out of a woman paying for two men. He made us all feel uncomfortable about it when he continued to make jokes about this and kept giving the bill to the men. Apparently it's 1950 in Humble Grape?
Excellent service and lovely food. The staff was very accommodating and friendly and the Sunday roast was very well done.
Bonus free bottle of wine on a Sunday - a big win!
food not great, worst scallops ever. do not recommend food
Great food, nice setting, great wines, very lovely and friendly staff! Will return!
Great place, casual and friendly service. Great selection of wine and food
Poor service and mediocre food
Very pleasant atmosphere, friendly helpful service, all in all a good experience.
excellent place, had a lovely time - nice food, nice wine, good service, pretty place
Lovely but busy wine bar. Interesting selection of food and wonderful wine. Good service although we received an odd reaction to sending back one dish which we thought wasn't quite right (possibly off cheese). We weren't charged but no apology - which I thought would be standard. Would give it another go.
We enjoyed our meal and the food was great - I do really like this restaurant! My only issue is that we marked it as a business dinner, and we were sat in the bar right in front of a live band. It was very difficult to discuss work when we were in the noisy part of the restaurant. I was thinking they'd seat us in back where it's more quiet and has a calming aesthetic.
Amazing as always, great atmosphere, lovely friendly helpful staff, I didn’t even need to look at the wine list, the staff picked all the wines for me and they were fabulous.
Excellent as always - great wine recommendation
Amazing place....the staff were fantastic, food was lovely and great value for money.
Would definitely go back!
Excellent and great wines
Nice atmosphere with really great wine though slightly on the the pricey end. Not far off the standard for the area though. Had a couple of really nice dates here so cosy enough for that.
We loved this wine bar. We had the wine explained to us which was interesting and correctly summed it up. We also had bottle shock explained which we had not known about.
The food was excellent having been lovingly cooked and they made sure we were finished in time for the theatre
Group of five of us. Helpful suggestions re wine. Good menu choices. Relaxed but efficient atmosphere.
Good Sunday lunch although the amount of chicken we got was much less than the other people we were with. Slightly off piste wine list.
The wine was divine. The tapas was yummy and the staff were courteous and very friendly! Will be back and definitely recommend this place :)
Wonderful food and wine. Restaurant was a bit noisy (but it was a Friday night) and our table wasn’t the best in terms of location. Carlos the general manager was an excellent host
For two steaks, a small starter and bottle of wine £100. So overpriced. The biggest disappointment was to food. Not worth it at all.
Cool place, good food and lovely service. I'll come back
Great wines and tapas style food in Islington.
