Our food brings together fresh flavours with an emphasis on simplicity and responsibly-sourced ingredients. We have seasonal specials, as well as a host of traditional favourites, and we also cater for vegetarians and vegans. We are extremely proud of our all-Greek wine and spirits menu and have brought together a unique and exciting range of wines, craft beers and spirits from all around Greece.
Bright and airy good value Greek restaurant. Outside seating. Pleasant service. Good variety of freshly prepared food and generous portions. Nice for a break in the Petticoat Lane/Spitalfields area-much nicer than inside the market.
Best Greek food I’ve had. Simple and perfect. Great value as well.
Great food, great vegetarian options. Service was a little slow in terms of receiving the menu and a server taking our order, however the food did arrive quickly. Servers were friendly and happy to take the time to explain the menu to us. Only suggestion is to create a little space as the tables are a little cramped; otherwise very happy with our dining experience
Everything was amazing & tasted great! You could tell all the ingredients were cooked fresh, it was a great introduction to London after a tiring flight from Dublin! Would recommend :)
Excellent service and good, had a lovely meal
Fabulous meal in a lovely place. Would definitely re-visit.
Excellent service and very good food, one of the best we tried.
Fabulous authentic Greek food & wines.
Had 3 courses & devoured the lot (apart from the huge portion of galaktoboureko which was a bite too far!)
Moussaka was delicious; real comfort food!
This place is a real find. Very unassuming in side but the food and wine quality was absolutely exceptional in every way. I had the warm pittas and tsaziki (sp?), the moussaka which came with a dozen of the juiciest and tastiest vine piccolo cherry tomatoes I can ever remember eating and the drop dead Greek cheese cheesecake..
Can’t wait to go again...
We went here because it was close to our hotel, and i noticed that they serve a couple of vegetarian dishes. This made me very happy, because i'm a big fan of Greek food, but most Greek dishes aren't vegetarian. The restaurant was very cute and had a nice vibe. A bit noisy, but that didn't bother me too much.
Great little place, loved the setting - open and bright. Good selection on the menu including vegan and vegetarian options - food was flavourful and fresh!
Service was great, very attentive.
Definitely recommend for a nice casual meal!
Food is absolutely incredible; great variety on offer and all good portion sizes., fresh and authentic. It's a little on the expensive side, but really worth it. The Rhosecco sparkling wine is also beautiful.
Good with friends nice staff and good Greek food and wines
Amazing authentic Greek food - the meat was absolutely delicious.
Service was perfect too and the venue despite small’ish is lovely.
It’s not expensive, but it’s not super cheap.
We had a really lovely meal here. My husband has a couple of allergies and they were so friendly and welcoming and catered for him superbly. Delicious food, great ambience, wonderful service
George and the staff took great care of us! Delicious, authentic Greek food, straight from the motherland. Doesn’t get much better than Hungary Donkey
On a visit to London from New York, we stopped in for dinner. Everything was really great! I loved the food, the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. I’d 100% recommend the Hungry Donkey to friends visiting the area. I will be back for sure!
Cramped, or elbows touched the people at the next table. One fantastic waitress but ridiculously understaffed. And over priced. 2 drinks each and 5 tapas to share, £90
I do love this place as I love Greek food. The Greek tapas style menu is up my street as I like a choice, however, you can go for more of a main meal style too so everyone is happy. On the negative side it does work out quite expensive as a large wine for example is actually a medium priced as a large and the tapas can soon add up before you know it. On the positive the food is very good, they have good drinks choices, there is outside seating for a nice day. I would recommend for special occasions or a treat.
Good choice of Greek food and value for money. Souvlaki was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff.
Friendly staff, good quality food and value for money. Will be back soon :)
Bit noisy, but that was the other people thinking that shouting is an acceptable way of conversing!
Service quick, food tasty and tender, good wine..friendly waiting staff. Top local eatery
This place was a great little find. Great food and wine. Would recommend for any one in the area looking for some great value food.
What a lovely restaurant! Food is very good and fresh, staff are excellent.
The food was very good, I had chosen Hungry Donkey because it offered a wide choice of vegetarian options and wasn't disappointed!
Service was also good, but we were one of three couples in the whole restaurant and were all sat next to each other, so close it felt like we were on a group date. A bit off putting when the rest of the restaurant was completely empty!
The Hungry donkey was the most authentic and delicious Greek restaurant I have been to in London. The staff were amazing, the restaurant was warm and the smell was unforgettable. Definitely will be returning again as it ticked all the boxes!
Very disappointing. Despite booking a table , we were made to sit at a tiny breakfast bar that overlooked another table and was right next to the pass - so staff were standing right on top of us all night. There was another table for two available but we couldn't sit there as they were 'fully booked'. A walk-in party were able to sit there though? The food was ok but the selection of dips is very overpriced and my friend's chicken souvlaki was undercooked. She ordered cheesecake for dessert - it appeared to have just been taken out of the freezer. The base was so hard that she couldn't cut through it without it crumbling everywhere. Plates were taken away incredibly quickly and the whole thing felt like they were hurrying us out. I love Greek food but I won't be coming back here.
Nice appetisers and wine. But the vegetarian stuffed pepper was terrible.
Maybe they should tone dine the lighting for a bit more atmosphere,
A little gem with proper Greek street food, Greek wine and Greek beer - no frills, no fuss, attentive and friendly service. My wife and I ordered various mezedes including Melitzanosalata and Keftedakia and a Greek salad. The smoky aubergine was perfect and the minty dip with the meatballs was just right. As to the wine and beers - I wish we were able to get such a selection in Greece - and very well kept! Very pleased indeed to have such a restaurant in our locality.
I'm a returning customer. The lamb wrap is definitely worth going back for, and a great excuse to try something new on the menu.
We went to this restaurant for my wife's birthday, blinded by the dazzling reviews we found online. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a terrible idea. To start with the positives, the staff were very polite and attentive, but this was pretty much where the goodness ended.. The food was really substandard and overpriced.. £1.50 for one piece of bread (10x5cm) cut in four tiny pieces, £3.50 for terribly tasting (too much herbs and overcooked!) chips that would maybe go down ok in a pub, but not so much in greek cuisine, and £15 for two souvalakis that were so dry (the bread was too thick and there was hardly any sauce in the souvalakis) that it nearly made me cry. I was sad to have ruined my wife's special day by taking her here just to be served food that does not resemble the actual food served in Greece. I once spent a month in Athens and ate souvalakis nearly everyday, so I know what they are supposed to be taste like. I just so wish we went somewhere else that day. It finished with £50 less in my wallet and stomach pain.
Delicious food, friendly and polite staff. The only negative being the price as for 2 adults and a kid we paid £77.
We loved our meal at Hungry Donkey. The service was really friendly and the food hot and fresh. You have to order the halloumi! We’d definitely return next time we’re in the area.
Fantastic food, living with a half Greek it has to be up to scratch and it certainly was!!! Traditional food.. Now the ambience could be better but don't let this put you off, we'd be back in a flash. Maybe better music or less cafe style tables and chairs but hey now just being fussy. Book a table now.
Good Greek Food - would return! Very filling and good quality
We had a wonderful time, waiter was attentive and knew his stuff. Can’t wait to go back
Food was delicious, came quickly and great value! We also had a lovely glass of red wine
The food was tasty and the service was prompt and efficient.
Best Greek food I ever had in London! People there are very friendly and great value for money
